Are you doing it again Marilyn?

I'm tempted but may be off my food slightly after the cruise

Dawn

We weren't planning to Dawn as I ate far too much:lmao::lmao::lmao:, but if you have never done it then it is worth doing once at least!!! I'm sure a few days being back on land your dessert taste buds will be back in full swing;)!!!

We were on the 2007 WBTA, and we crossed the Atlantic with warm, sunny weather and amazingly calm seas. We are hoping it's the same this time, but know that was NOT the norm, and we were lucky.

Sue, I hope you feel better. Glad to hear your formal arrived and it fits. I just got back from eating pizza and I feel like I won't fit into anything.

I have pictures of the Magic leaving Port Canaveral in April if anyone is interested, I can e-mail them. Yes, we had a fun afternoon with it while eating shrimp outside and watching her go by. Everyone was waving and yelling. I was saying, "wish I could be on it" but I am glad I am going in September. That way - it isn't over yet!!!:rotfl:

We were waving at you!

Probably a bad time to say but on the EBTA in 07 they said that was the best time to sail the Atlantic then we had rubbish weather!

The weather on the EBTA this year was great almost all the time - I did take a pill one day - but nothing like I guess it was in 2007. I think it all has to do with the weather at the time and there is no way to predict that! We sailed in dec. 2007 and had the worst cruise in regards to the rocking of the boat - even the crew said it was worse than the EBTA in 2007 - so I knew if I survived that one I could survive anything!

as for warm clothing on the cruise - here is what I ended up doing on the EBTA - I brought all kinds of warm clothes "just in case" and here was the thing - on the sea days we were inside most of the time and wore shorts/capris and short sleeve shirts as the ship inside is kept at a degree where having shorts on was very comfortable. So if you normally are cold inside the ship when you sail - do what you would normally do - the only night I wore some layers was Pirate Night on deck to watch the fireworks. so if you like to spend evenings out on the deck - bring some warmer clothes (or as others do - just use a blanket (DCL laid them out for use at quiet cove - even during the days when it was a little cooler - still I was in shorts, and then just got a blanket) I took way too many just in case clothes - this time we each will have a pair of jeans, long thin underwear (small and easy to pack) and a sweatshirt type jacket - we can then layer. Oh and we will have our winter jacket but thy are from lands end and are thin like a t-shirt and roll up to fit into a half gallon ziplock bag -- yet are rated down to 22f - but we are bringing those more for our Austria trip than the cruise. I will not be overpacking the "warm" clothes this time - what I will do is bring a little extra money incase we want a sweatshirt from the cruise.

Hope that makes sense - sorry for the rambling

Krisann

Not rambling at all Krisann, in fact a lot of help. I have been wondering what to take for cooler weather and the 'just in case' clothes!!! I have loads of normal 'just in case' clothes and things before I even start on the cooler weather stuff!!:lmao:

On our February/March trip to WDW when we were there for 6 weeks(including 1 week's cruise) I wore all my my cooler 'just in case' clothes all the time!!!:sad2: On the cruise week however, it was very cold in the inside corridors and restaurants. I don't know why, but it was quite uncomfortable at times.

Oh I haven't even began to think about 'just in case clothes' :scared1:

I'm getting worried about my luggage allowance now and how I am going to pack all of my formal clothes and fish extender gifts :sad2:

I think I will have to have most of Bob's suitcase too ;)

Krisann, my experience on the EBTA was similar.

I bought a lightweight Eddie Bauer jacket "just in case." I only used it on Pirates night -- and was glad I had it.

I haven't checked the travel list, but when and how are you guys getting to Barcelona?

We are leaving Dulles on the 15th to arrive in Barcelona on the 16th. Since we just booked recently and checking airfare was becoming a full-time job, we decided to go with Disney air. We just passed 60 days so I'll be calling them tomorrow to try to get specifics.

One of our fares is DVC points so everything has to go through them which has been a hassle since I've gotten some incorrect DCL info (after being on hold for 20 minutes) :sad2:, so now I have the name of a DVC supervisor who will always help me out. I wish that once the booking was made, DVC would just turn you over to DCL--after all, it IS the same company.

I've used my debit card and one of my credit cards in Europe many times "as is". I never heard of some kind of a special chip needed in European ATMs (and I guess my card hadn't either). No problems using it in multiple ATMs. The four digit pin number is a requirement, though.

We've also used our US debit and credit cards "as is" all over Europe, Japan, India, etc. With the strength of the US$, Europe is going to be looking for ways to facilitate tourist spending.

Here's an interesting article from today's Washington Post about the new US law on cruise ship safety. I think this is a great step in the right direction, especially as these ships get bigger and bigger. I also agree with the final paragraph about being sure to pack your common sense.

He can wash and wear Dawn!!!;) Travel in your heavier 'just in case' clothes and carry some things in your onboard bag. Do you have a larger allowance for that? I know some low cost carriers do, though some don't.

Can i be a Champagne girl too please? i'm sure at least on of Lilly's tiara's must be pink (and probably fluffy)... princess:
I might even be able to convince mum to go pink too....

I agree with all the comments about the EBTA in '07. It was actually fun - There was so much to do inside and the waves looked cool, especially if watched while attending wine tastings...

I do remember Goofy having some difficulties walking the halls though - he kept running into people and falling over his big feet.

Perhaps that name and number would be helpful to the others arranging tastings, if they don't already have it.

Thanks for the article link, good to know. You said it very well, you need to use common sense. Having been in the Coast Guard, Bob's pet peeve are the life boat drills. Disney does a good job, they make you attend and do so on deck. Not all cruise lines do and most of us consider them as a royal pain or time to socialize. We've been on cruises where the crew put the shortest person with a voice that couldn't be heard in front of 12 deep to demonstrate and tell you where to go in the event of an problem. It was clear they where just going through the required motions. This was confirmed when Bob expressed his concern to an officer and was told they were meeting the law. He didn't have any further comments when Bob asked him how many people he had pulled from the water after an at sea accident.
My sister, a TA, was on a Princess cruise ship, at night, in Liverpool harbor, with two of my young nieces, when another cruise ship hit hers, putting a large hole in the side of our cabin. The lifeboats on her side where destroyed. No one was hurt and once home my niece thought it was the best part of the trip, but it brought home how important those drills are.

Another sleepless night. UGH I have been trying to find the web cam at Dover to see the Magic. However the webcam has not been updates in weeks. Darn it! I was craving a Magic fix.:headache:

Dee, have you seen the photos posted on Mouseplant? A few of them are on a Baltic cruise and got to take a backstage tour on the Dream. Really cool photos. Dream Tour

Not the magic, but still it helped with my need for a cruise fix

Hey Krisann - glad someone was waving to me :goodvibes

I was trying to post a picture or two so you can see them, but photobucket and I do not get along.

Booked my flights home from Orlando last night. Couldn't believe it when I did a search and the airfare was showing as $69 Orlando to San Francisco. I was sure it was a price mistake so I booked as fast as I could. Came up to $90 per person with taxes and fees. So excited!!!! Of course baggage fees will bump up the price, but we're still coming out way ahead.

I agree, I always pay attention to stuff like that.
I read the "sully " autobipgraphy, I loved the bit about the guy who was sitting next to the emergency exit, when everybody was cracking up he was quietly reading his emergency leaflet and working out how he was going to open the door(which he did)
