On the 2nd Champagne Girls get together it was all organised through DCL, with the person the other alcohol tastings have been organised through I think.

Everything was provided, the Champagne, glasses, Chocolate drops etc for the tastings, notes, and the Sommelier who walked us through the tastings, asking us questions etc. I know for the people there, those who drank paid $10, and those who sipped paid $5. You could go and watch and enjoy, but not drink, for free though.

It was excellent.

I like this idea! No worries..just fun

As of right now I'm looking at 2 buses. I planning to have one if the buses at the Praktik Rambla at 9:00 and the other bus at the Praktik Barcelona at 9:00. I'm Thinking about 20 to 30 min to pack up and 30 min to the port. If it only one bus, Pick up at Praktik Barcelona at 8:30 and then go to the around Praktik Rambla 9 then to the port. More of the diser want to get to the port around the time it opened that why the time are early. If you want to go on the bus from Praktik Barcelona or Praktik Rambla let me know. If you no longer want to go let me know ASAP.

Well its been a hectic couple of weeks here ...As some of you know we have been working feverishly on getting all the documents in order for Helen and her son ,(my stepson who is still in Manila ) Sean for the cruise ... Well everything seems to be in order for Helen as we have our Immigration status adjust interview in less then 2 weeks . (this is the last step in the process of going from a B1/B2 business/tourism visa to LPR "Legal Permanent Resident") If God willing she will be approved and she will get her Green Card ...

Now tomorrow we have to meet with the Vice Consular with the Italian Embassy here in Vegas to verify Helen is who she says she is so we can send in her paperwork for her Schengen Visa to the Italian Embassy in Los Angeles which actually saves us a trip from driving down there...

Now some of the bad news ::: Helens son tried to get his Schengen in Manila at the Spanish embassy , we were doing this to try and save some time on the hopes that the US Immigration would move his paperwork thru which would have put Sean in the states about 3 days prior to leaving for the cruise ..(that is if everything worked right) Well needless to say the Spanish Embassy denied his Visa due to him not having the US visa and on top of that the US immigration doesnt look like he will get his interview there till mid Sept , which would put him here about Oct 7th ...So there is no way Sean will make the cruise ...But will be here shortly after we return ...

Now some good news ..... My oldest by Dylan (18) finished his independent study classes and received his High School diploma from his school ...As most of you know he has enlisted into the US Army ...We were first told he would ship out in Aug , well we got his papers and he ships to Ft Benning on Oct 26th , soooooooooo Dylan will be joining us on this B2B cruise ...

I know this may seem confusing , but all in all it will work out , and Yes Helen was upset about Sean not being there , this process has been extremely hard on her cause she hasnt seen her son since Feb , (thank God for Skype) ..But she knows in the long run she is where she wants to be and Sean will be soon to follow. Plus we decided since Sean couldnt make this cruise we are going to book the Dream for June of next year so we can all go

I hope I didnt bore too many of you , as I am not one to really share whats going on in my life , but I do have to say , the last 20 months have been a ride ....

TAKE WHAT YOU CAN !!!!!

So glad that Dylan is going to be able to make it on the cruise!! Cant wait to see him and the rest of the family. Hopefully I will get to meet Sean in the near future :)

okay my mouth is watering.. Thanks to who ever it was that posted the list of chocolates specific to countries. Some I am ashamed to say I have never heard of. So I am now insearch of ones from USA to share.. I also want to find out what they are. I know when I was in Germany I tasted all I could get my hands on. That was also gooood chocolate. :goodvibes

I finally got caught up. Thank God for my DSIS, She is keeping me up dated. I stopped my facebook games to catch up. This is a long work week for me. I wanted to keep up with some of the details.
The USA Peeps, Is there a way we can let eachother know with out breaking the fun of surprise withthe chocolate exchange who is bringing what. I love chocolate and the thought of getting different ones to taste is awesome.. I hope I bring enough diabetic medication, i am going to enjoy myself. There are a few important things in my life: Family, Disney, and chocolate not always in that order. PM me if you have any ideas. DSIS already has hers and I cannot decide. I see someone is doing snickers, mounds and m&m's. Cannot wait to see what else is comming on board. :yay:

Have you ever met a chocolate you did not like? I am here at work and really needed this laugh.:rotfl2:

These are great! I wish I were a papaya! I'm a strawberry and I have no idea how to make a FE, other than just putting out a grocery bag!:rotfl2:

The problem is that nicotine is as addicting as cocaine, so it's the nicotine going through their heads that makes it "okay" to them.

I've seen Walmart bags used... :rotfl2: Get yourself a small/med sized tote bag at the craft store - you can decorate it if you want... just remember to bring the long zip ties (you can get them at Home Depot or a store like that...)

:woohoo::woohoo:

Yep, what she said!:thumbsup2:cool1:

:littleangel:

Thanks!

You need someone to organise it - ?Connie(CQuick) as she is already on the ball. Of course there are already a few tastings going on, so there might be clashes and more of a problem getting a room, but it is worth a try. Otherwise I am sure a lesser venue and DIY would be great and just as much fun, though you would still need the glasses and the Champers of course.

A couple of chairs outside Cove Cafe... :goodvibes

This is for those of us who are new to travel in Europe. For all you pros I apologize and would appreciate your continued advise.

I just spoke with Bank of America. She advises me to add calling them before my trip to my list of things to do and let them know where we will be using our ATM card so they do not block these unusual transactions (my Chase Disney card told me to do the same). They also indicated I can purchase euros, either on-line or at my downtown branch. They indicated there is no fee but the exchange rate is the retail rate not necessarily the financial published rate ??? so it's not a fee it is just that the retail rate is more?? They also have traveler's checks in euros at no fee.

Could all you experienced Europe travelers weigh in on this and let me know if traveler's checks in euros is a good idea or not?

Thanks

Val

Apparently most establishments in Europe do not take traveler's cheques. We are getting some to cash aboard DCL so we aren't taking as much cash through Barcelona but don't intend to bring the traveler's cheques for use in Europe. We are using cash and VISA instead: VISA everywhere we can, and cash where we can't. I called my bank and got them to issue me a credit caard with a chip.

I always swore I wouldn't be seen dead in crocs, until 4 weeks at WDW, my feet were swollen and bleeding, I bought a pair of pink Mickey crocs, OMG...relief, they are so comfy! I threatened DH with divorce if he got my crocs in any photo's, it was knees up only :lmao: Now...My crocs have grown on me, I have quite the collection, and I love them, too bad if they're ugly!

Yup, there gets to be a time in your life when comfort outweighs style. I got there a looonnnggg time ago :rotfl: . Plus there are a lot of cute Crocs now, too.

I would love to go to WDW and USA at Christmas, It may be on the cards next year, we'd love to have a white christmas, or at least cold, it is always 40 degrees plus here on christmas day, you don't enjoy the big roast meal so much when it's that hot. My sister is pregnant and is having a cesarean on the 23rd of Dec, so we will be having Christmas is hospital this year, :goodvibes, at least the air conditioning will be cold. :rotfl:

Another Christmas baby! I'm 12/27. Don't count on it being very cold in FL at Christmastime. We went last December and it was 50s-70s mostly (Sorry, I don't know what that is in Centigrade).

23rd December is a great Birthdate!

I'm with you on the smoke free world just cause I hate the smell of smoke!

Amen. Don't you ever wonder who thought that sticking a dry leaf in their mouth and setting it on fire was a good idea :lmao: ?

Here is a link to an article on packing. There is an interactive packing list included.

So helpful, thank you.

We are having a similar stress. We have a parrot, a cat, several aquariums and a pond with fish that need to be fed (in a garden that needs to be watered). Our parrot has a professional boarder who takes her and has agreed to taker for the full 32 days we'll be gone----so that is good. However, we're scrambling with what to do about our house, cat, fish, etc. Usually we have a friend who comes by and feeds them while we're away.....but we're feeling like for such an extended period of time we'd rather have someone actually stay in our home while we're gone. The problem being that we don't really know anyone who doesn't have animals of their own at home that they need to care for...so we're still trying to figure out what we're going to do. Jason has one coworker who still lives at home with her parents...and we were really hoping that she'd think the idea of having our house to herself for a whole month would be fun....but she seems a bit ambivalent about it!:confused3

I hope you get things worked out.

Dear Corinna, all you need is a pink t shirt to be a Champagne Girl! Dresses are not really necessary, but the pink one does sound pretty. You can wear your formal night tiara to the Champagne Girls party. Also, Disney's Fairy Tale Cuvee is very nice, so you can get it right on the ship!

Connie

That may be the way for me to go.

So sad...TShirts arrived with a flaw....:confused3

When filling out the paperwork, I put Walter on the front without knowing I was doing it. So I thought I delete the front name and added the back names. :goodvibes

But, Diane and I TShirts have Walter on the Front and our names on the Back...:laughing::laughing::scared1::scared1::scared1:

Walt :cool1:

Well, I messed up. Our shirts have the names on the front. I completely missed the name on the back thing.

It's sad about Sean, but what a blessing that you'll get to share your time w/Dylan. And that's great about booking the Dream next year.

A bit of advice for anyone who's interested: wear SPF lip balm! Didn't wear it at Castaway Cay and ended up w/a cold sore that took up half my face (at least that's how it felt). If you're prone to these things, the intense sun can definitely cause them to pop up.

I can either make you one or send you instructions to make your own. They are very easy to make! And fun to personalize! Connie

:littleangel:

Ok.. with Champagne Girls...You need to bring a pink shirt with you and our past tiaras have come from a party store so if you have one of those around... just go find a tiara to wear... It doesn't have to be an expensive one... believe me... MINE isn't...:rotfl: (and we'll still let you in if you don't have one...)

Connie... you're going to have to get in touch with Deb and see who she talked to at DCL to get a room for it... I think maybe the middle sea day if they don't have anything else going on in the rooms...

OK! I'll contact DEB! DEAR DEB FALBUSCH who sent me a tiara and pink boa when I couldn't cruise with the group. I'll order the wine from DCL, I'll make sure we have a room...I hope it's Diversions......AND I will go to the Cast Connection tomorrow to see if I can scrounge up a bunch of tiaras......

Thanks for the advice! princess:princess:

I never ever travel without Acyclovir (Zovirax). UK Tesco or other supermarket brand is just as good. Got caught in Florida a previous year, and just could not find an equivalent. I had Cold sores as big as I've ever seen, and so miserable and painful. I was desperate to get home to UK for my over counter treatments
Any one know if there actually was a US version that I just couldnt find?

Lyn

Well, I hope that I remember everything correctly. I read some of this thread during my lunch break, but I have not got internet access at my work station. So I had to type everything into an email and then copy and paste it into the thread when I got home.

The oufit is really not an issue Corinna. A pink t shirt or something is fine if you have one, if not it's not important...its just a moment to share our bubbles....even if we buy a glass together onboard!
:littleangel:

Well, I have made a decision. I am in as far as the Champagne Girls are concerned. The pink dress was too good a bargain to pass up in the end and I bid on a pink tiara on Ebay as well and just got notification that I won it.

My first reaction to the pink t shirt idea was that I don't own a pink t shirt, but then after the event I remembered that I have a pink shirt with the DCL logo and a skull and crossbones. Still, I don't really need an excuse to get a new dress. Now I just have to sort out the boa. I think I will have a look at the market over the weekend.

I will pick up a bottle of bubbly on the way to the DIS Meet on September 17th. I think the Hard Rock Café is quite close to the famous department store that I can never remember the name of and I am sure they will sell me a bottle of bubbly.

Corinna ... don't worry about having to buy the bubbly ... you can share mine :thumbsup2 One glass and I'm a bit wibbly so if I bring a bottle of bubbly there will be plenty for 2 !!

PS Can you PM me details of your tiara seller .. I may just wear my wedding one but if I can't find it I will need options. Thanks

I PMed you the links for the tiara sellers. The sellers are in Australia, but their prices and postage charges are very fair and I figure there is plenty of time for the tiaras to get here.

I've heard there is a liquer store in the port in Barcelona. So no extra trip needed, if you're not picky. Or you could always get a bottle of DCL's bubbly.

Yes, there are two duty free shops at the cruise terminal in Barcelona. We had every intention to get some wine there on our Med cruise. The shops were open when we approached the security check point, but in the 10 minutes or so that it took for us to get to the front of the line and clear security, the shops had closed. We ended up getting some wine in Malta.

Jason has one coworker who still lives at home with her parents...and we were really hoping that she'd think the idea of having our house to herself for a whole month would be fun....but she seems a bit ambivalent about it!:confused3

I hope that everybody will find house and pet sitters in time. It can be so difficult to find somebody to take care of your pets. When we still had pets, we had more problems than most people as we had pet rats. Most people run a mile when I asked them if they were willing to look after our rats. They make such beautiful pets as well, but this is lost on a lot of people.

Alright everyone-----

So Jason and I have figured out how and where we're going to do the printing of the lanyard name badge(s). His company has agreed that we can print them at his office using their color laser printer just so long as he buys a new ink cartridge...which we were able to get really cheap online. SO.....it's all designed, we have the arrangements for printing made, etc. etc.

What does this mean for all of you? It means that it is time to set a REAL deadline for when the lanyard list has to be absolutely 100% closed. We will need time to actually load the names ONTO the name badges, print them all, cut them out, assemble them and pack them....and remember that we leave on Sept. 1st (earlier than many of you who are only doing the WBTA). For that reason, I am going to make the official cut-off for the lanyard list: SUNDAY, AUGUST 1st

At the end of the day that day we will be printing out the list AS IT APPEARS ONLINE (click HERE to view it) and moving forward with lanyard production. This will give me and Jason plenty of time on weekends to get everything done that we need to.

This means that prior to that date you need to:

1.) Make sure you've ordered your lanyards!!! (Remember....they're free, they're fun, they're FAAAAABULOUS!!! I have just about 50 lanyards left unclaimed...so if you don't have one ordered, don't delay any longer!!!)

2.) Make sure that your information on the list is correct. Click the link above and check out your DIS name(s), your first name(s), your room #'s and make sure it accurately reflects if you are a B2B cruiser or not. (B2B cruisers, I will keep your lanyards separate so I can give them to you on the Med portion of our trip). If there are any CORRECTIONS to be made, PM with those ASAP!!!! (If your info is correct then, as was previously suggested----let sleeping dogs lie!)

A couple of notes:

**If you do not have your room number by August 1st, that is not a huge deal. Room numbers are, obviously, not going on the lanyards themselves. If you do have a room number by then, please send it. If not, just send it as soon as possible.

**If all the lanyards are not claimed by August 1st, that does not mean people who join our group late won't still be able to get one. I will accept lanyard orders right up until the moment Jason and I leave (and maybe even after if it's technologically feasible). However, people who order their lanyards AFTER Aug. 1st will run the risk of not having their name printed on their name badge----instead I will have to handwrite it in with a sharpie probably.

Thanks again for taking on the lanyards. I am glad that you have found a way to get the name tags printed.

Connie

Funny that you should say that. I am very partial to Fairy Tale Cuvee and was actually thinking that if all else fails, I could always get a bottle on board.

Believe you me, it was not a hardship to get a new dress and a second tiara. The tiara that I am bidding on for this occasion is a tiara comb so won't take up much space. This actually works out OK for another reason. The Friday before Halloween every year, we have a Pink Halloween dress down day in our office for a breast cancer charity. Ever since I got my pink evening gown for the Med cruise, I had intended to go as princess this year. So I needed a matching tiara anyway. Of course, I might just be forced to wear a tiara for both formal nights now.

The dress I have been eyeing for a number of months as well. I was just not willing to pay full price for it.

Well its been a hectic couple of weeks here ...As some of you know we have been working feverishly on getting all the documents in order for Helen and her son ,(my stepson who is still in Manila ) Sean for the cruise ... I am so sorry to hear that Sean won't be making the cruise. At least you will all have something to look forward to next year. Good news though that Dylan can come.

On the 2nd Champagne Girls get together it was all organised through DCL, with the person the other alcohol tastings have been organised through I think.

This sounds great. It would be wonderful if this could be arranged.

I finally got the first set of tickets for the flight back from Orlando today. We are flying standby so I could only buy the tickets three months ahead. I left it an extra week just in case that we do not get on. I am going to get a second set of tickets for another carrier to give us more options. The unused tickets are fully refundable so this will give us maximum flexibility with minimum risk.

I have decided to make some jewellery to go with my outfit for Villains Night. I have had an idea for a new jewellery design for a while, but was not quite sure how to turn the idea into a piece of jewellery. I think I have this sorted out now and I am sure it will work great with the outfit. I can't wait to get the materials and get started on this.

Corinna

Woody.. would it be advised to carry some travelers checks also? I heard they were doing currency changes on the ship with only cash or trav. checks...
I use travelers checks.

Currency changes on ships are convenient but don't have good rates.

Lyn, Leonard gets them so bad he gets a course of tablets acyclovir to take pre hols and on hols, its a shame, he gets big sores as well. FYI, we will def have some if you loose or forget it. All his pics he has them, also poor thing cant even smile they are sore and will crack.
Ive never looked for it in us as we always have it.

I found somethng great for me... it's Abreva. With the heat and sun(today is 119 at 3:45pm). My lips are fried. I use it at night and keep some kind of spf on during the day.
Abreva is tiny, about the size of your little finger and cost about $15(US).

I'm not the most experienced traveler either, but I have a friend who is and she said the best thing is to buy Euros with your debit card at an ATM in Barcelona...she always gets hers right at the airport. We were also checking out a Euro credit card that we saw offered at an airport recently, but they are not available here in Florida (yet). We've also been checking XE.com daily to keep track of how the exchange rate is going.

Thank you for sharing this information. Icheck XE.com. Val

You can get euro travellers cheques, but you are likely to need your passport if you want to use them as currency in Europe. Your best bet would be to get some euros ahead of time and use a credit card for larger purchases, that would give you the bank exchange rate, but try and get a fee free credit card for foreign currency transactions. It is always a good idea to inform your cc company that you are travelling abroad before you go.

Thanks - I'll look into the fee free credit card for foreign currency transactions.

Thanks - I'm on the search for a fee free credit card for foreign currency that has the necessary chip to us in Europe ATMs. val

I can either make you one or send you instructions to make your own. They are very easy to make! And fun to personalize! Connie

Would you really make me one? I'd love that! I'll send you a PM.
