Well, I've read all the posts but it was getting too long to multi-quote so I'm just going to mention a few:

MisMet - so sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope that things will work out so that you can join us but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

NAVIGATOR - this is just plain AWESOME!!! :worship:

Buckeye Gal - so weird - I just decided yesterday to order a PacSafe too!!! Just picked up a smaller 100 as I'm not used to having a big purse.

All of the formal wear seems so beautiful. Not sure that I'll fit in but I'll be there anyway. :rotfl2:

Okay - now I know why I hit the multi-quote. Can't remember what else I wanted to comment on. Guess I have to go back through again :scared1:

DH and I are getting excited and he is starting to look at some of the posts. He has one question what does the pin look like? We are pin collectors.

I will answer for Connie, if that is ok. She is trying to make the pin look like the logo with the flags.

Being new to this group I don't want to go on about something you may have already covered but I was just reading about the hidden 16% VAT tax on items purchased in Barcelona. For others who like me are not familiar with how to request a refund, here is a website that I found of value.
http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/shopping/tax-free-shopping.html

Good information and might go in mini navigator? The link for the tax free refund is good for all Euro nations.

For a refund, you can either go to the airport or submit a VAT claim form.

Instructions on both going to airport to get refund or submit VAT Claim form as we are not flying out of Barcelona:

How to claim the TAX back

When you arrive at the airport you must present you tax refund cheques at customs BEFORE you check your bags in. Customs may request to check the items before they stamp your cheques. Once your cheques have been stamped by customs you can cash your cheques at any Bureau de Change in your chosen currency.

Unfortunately if you are not actually flying out of Barcelona you cannot just go to the airport and cash your cheques. The cashing of the VAT cheques in Barcelona is a service only available for those that leave Barcelona by plane.

When you send back your VAT claim you have a number of options for obtaining your money. You can opt to receive a cheque, or choose a bank transfer or wire. These options are available on the form that you send back to the VAT reclaim office. It's best to opt for the direct transfer to your account as most banks charge a substantial fee for cashing international cheques - around 30 Euros in Spain.

It will take approximately 3 months to process your claim and for you to receive your refund.

You follow the same procedure as for the cruise if you are leaving Spain by any other means e.g. train or car. But in these situations your cheques are stamped at the customs office before you leave Spain.

Summary

You are entitled to claim a VAT refund on goods purchased in Spain if you meet the following criteria:

1) Your domicile (permanent residence) is outside the European community)

2) You spend more than 90.15 Euros on your items

3) You intend to take the items back to your country. This therefore excludes restaurant and hotel bills and general food.

4) You have all the correct paperwork completed - this is provided by shops that run the Tax Free Shopping Scheme - look for their logo in the shop window or ask in the shop (some shops do not run the tax free scheme)

5) You follow all the procedures detailed above in our article for claiming your VAT back before you leave Spain.

6) If you have any more detailed questions on Tax free shopping visit their website and post them a question directly. They have people that can respond to you in English.

Click here for the official tax free shopping agency in Spain

Happy shopping!

From what I have seen you have put a lot of work into it. DH and I are going on errands today and will be taking the copy with us to look over. We are getting excited. Started getting clothes ready and the lists.

Have a great time shopping!!

If you decide to read Elizabeth Peters, do read them in order starting with Crocodile in the Sandbank. I own all her books both in Hardbound and on tape.

Just my thoughts...
:surfweb:

What sort of books does she write Noel? You've piqued my interest :)

I think I can finally fall a sleep now. I got an email for my TA and it appears my years of service to my country just paid off. We appeared to have gotten the Military Discount. :thumbsup2 I see a DB purse in my future (was going to get it anyway, but now DH cannot complain). Life is good!

Awesome! Congratulations and thank you for your service to our country!

I don't know if the have Wacoal bras available in the UK but I find they always fit perfectly. http://www.wacoal-america.com/

Just my thoughts...
:surfweb:

I love the Wacoal bras, but hate the price tag! If you ever find any good online discounts, let me know.

What sort of books does she write Noel? You've piqued my interest :)

Elizabeth Peters in the pseudonym for Barbara Mertz. She also writes under the name of Barbara Michaels. Her books are mystery thrillers and books about Egyptology. She holds a PhD in Egyptology from the University of Chicago.

Under her Elizabeth Peters pseudonym, my favorite characters are Amelia Peabody, Vickie Bliss and Jacqueline Kirby.

Amelia Peabody Emerson, the heroine is an Egyptologist and is married with one child of her body, Ramses, and two others of her heart: Nefret Forth (3 years older than Ramses) and, later, Sennia (ca. 25 years younger). The stories all relate to the "Golden Age" of Egyptology and nearly all are set in Egypt, the excavations providing the backdrop for the mystery/adventure plots.

The timeline begins in the 1880s with Amelia's decision to see the world as an unexpectedly-wealthy, feminist spinster, and ends with the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.

The Vicky Bliss novels follow the adventures of an American professor of art history who keeps getting involved in international crime and her love interest, a charming art thief known as Sir John Smythe. Another Peters novel, The Camelot Caper (1969), while not technically a Vicky Bliss story, features Smythe.

Though she only wrote four books in the Jacqueline Kirby series, you may enjoy them as well Jacqueline Kirby is a librarian with a very large purse and a knack for solving mysteries. Jacqueline makes her first appearance as an unwilling detective in The Seventh Sinner. Though it was intended as a stand-alone novel, her maturity, quirkiness, and pursuit of romantic relationships made her a standout. The character blossomed with Murders of Richard III and Die For Love, the latter of which featured her wearing increasingly outrageous costumes, and launching on a career as a romance novelist. This new storyline continues with Jacqueline writing a sequel to a "famous" prehistoric romance novel in Naked Once More.

All the novels can be enjoyed in any order, but the stories are highly sequential in nature and are probably better appreciated if read in order of publication.

You can read lots more and get a list of her books at her official website.

Noel, I like your smileys A LOT, but Smiley Central doesn't work on a Mac, does it?!?

Nope, I miss the smilies too, but I also do the photobucket trick, google a smilie then save it to my smilie album and post like a photo here.

OK thanks to Penny and her marvels she has managed to get out a preview copy of the navigator! Warning this is the first preview and I expect there to be mistakes so please point them out! Sandi (Hoagie Pie) appologies for the spelling mistakes as I think I caught some and not others on your name!

Anyway the end document will be a duplux version that can be printed then folded into a booklet but this is just the main pdf version.

It should be helpful for those first timers out there and seasoned DCL's
alike hopefully. If anyone thinks of anything else to add let me know. As said before I've left out the Dis Name list as it seemed the best idea for now as most people are waiting on room assignments

Dis Navigator Version 1

Looks amazing and so detailed. Are we distributing them BEFORE the cruise? Or at embarkation?

I see that you've included information about getting lanyards. THANKS! Can I suggest a revision to what it says there?

First, my name is actually spelled "Erik" (with a K). I don't know who Eric is....but if he's showing up with lanyards, too, I'm gonna be real annoyed at all the work I put into getting the ones I did put together!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: (just pulling your leg) (Also, my name is spelled wrong on the thanks page at the end, too)

Also you can absolutely publish our cabin #. It's 6584 and we will not be moving out of that room.

You can certainly keep the information about them being available at the DIS meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3pm. I'm 99% positive that we will be there for that. (We have not booked any activities in Barcelona even though they do have some excursions there. Since we're doing the B2B we are already gonna be on the ship the day of embarkation and so we were planning on going down to the excursions desk during the Med cruise and seeing if we could look at what they're offering that day in Barcelona and if there's anything fun and short and cheap, then we might add some kind of DCL day/morning trip----but I imagine that if we did that, all excursions would have you back to the boat by early afternoon so you can do the safety drill, right??).

Beyond that, I am planning to also be on Deck 10 overlooking the goofy pool during the Sail Away party with any lanyards that people don't pick up at the meet in the Promenade lounge. Anyone who hasn't picked up their lanyards by that time, our plan was to walk the halls of the ship after late seating is over delivering lanyards to people's rooms (hang them on their doorknob and/or fish extender).

Folks are welcome to stop by my room for their lanyards, but we likely won't be there. What WOULD be important is that if there are any people who change rooms and don't get their lanyards before dinner, they should either call my room or leave a note under my door with their new room number and their DIS NAME so we can get them their lanyards.

I will certainly be posting the directions above ad nauseam here as the cruise gets closer, but jsut so folks see that and we can maybe get it included in the mini-navigator. My goal is to have every lanyard out of my possession by the time I go to bed on Sept. 18th!!! :thumbsup2

Too cute!! I have been looking for Disney Jammie pants for the boys for a while and not having much luck... Guess I need to sew my own...

Thanks for doing this for us. Could you add Graham to the post cruise celebrations. His birthday is on October 6th and he will be 52.

By the way, on your post on the first page it says that we are in Madeira on September 21st. I got a little scared when I saw this as I booked Blandy's for September 22nd. I checked the DCL website and we are definitely in Madeira on the 22nd. I can see that it is correct in the Navigator.

Will the Scavenger Hunt go in the Navigator as well? I seriously have to work on cleaning up the questions for this as at the moment the answers are next to the questions.

Corinna

Sorry all that's me typing in the wrong date! Ignore me!

Yes the hunt can go in there if you want I don't mind. Just need it before the final version.

Added Graham on

Sarah, if I'm the only one without a fish extender, I can get one if it makes it easier for others....just let me know.

Also, I agree with Amanda/Annette--I would like the postcard signed with a note about the location.

Thanks for organizing this!

Linda

Linda there's no need honest. Im sure others wont have one too its just most people haven't said yet. Don't worry Im sure it will work fine - otherwise hang a plastic bag on the FE or something! Don't want you going to the hassel of making one just fo this!

Looks great , could you add we are celebrating our honeymoon as we werent able to have one in April and delayed it for this cruise , also we will be celebrating 1 year anniversary Sept 30 (Are actually first lunch date when we met)..

pirate:

Course I can Captain but I can't remember Mrs Captain's name and I don't see it on the Roll Call

Thanks Noel! They all appeal to me but especially the one about the librarian (me having been one and all!:thumbsup2) Will look out for them, I love to read new writers, especially if they're recommended :)
