Oh, we have been here several times, and we just love it! The whole area around Chatsworth is great....some good walks, too, and the scenery!

Just thought I would post a few photos from our weekend away. We visited Chatsworth House which is a spectacular stately home in Derbyshire, England.
Well worth a visit if anyone gets the chance. It is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, one of their ancestors was Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire who was played by Keira Knightly in the film "The Duchess". The house and gardens were absolutely stunning, and the atmosphere was straight from another time. I almost expected Mr Darcy to emerge from the lake

I have posted a lot more photos on Facebook if anyone is interested .... more of the house and gardens and a lot of the unbelievably beautiful interiors.

Sarah?

Was the film partially or filmed here at all? It looks familiar. (Never been there) but the house looks so familiar. :scratchin

Yes it was ... there was a display about the present Duchess of Devonshire and how she had given Keira access to some of Georgiana's own things to help her develop a feel for the character.

On the last WBTA there were flying fish and the Captain reported seeing brown ****ies!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:
We had lots of sighting of brown B***ies on the EBPC in 2005:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Annie:flower3:

:scratchin AW YES! The infamous Brown ****ies. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

I don't think Cpt Tom has EVER lived that one down. Especially after he repeated it like 3 times. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

Got so that, was it Rich Pupurra or another comic that reference this "famous" bird? (And might I say, he did cover the "animated" speech rather well) ;)

AW man, didn't realize I was going to get censured....Sorry DIS. I didn't do it on purpose. :sad2:

Well it is a proper bird name, so just one of those silly things. I'm sure you won't be black listed!!!:lmao: I did a lot worse once and a whole load of posts were removed!!! I really had no idea - just one of those American/British word differences.:rolleyes1

We have all been buying Pacsafe bags!!! Very sad we have to even consider it isn't it. We must be vigilant, but of course that is a good thing everywhere we go, particularly in any city!!!

I had to buy a fleece top on our cruise last year going from Perth, it was freezing cold (unseasonably so) so I'm hoping I've learnt from that :) We are going to DL following our stay in Florida so by mid-Oct, I'm assuming it will be cool in the evenings so we will be needing warmer clothing for there anyway. Also it will still be pretty darn cool leaving here in early spring so I plan on being very well dressed going out of here.

The average high temp for October in Orlando is 85ºf / 29.5ºc
The average low temp is 66ºf / 18.5ºc
As we get back at the beginning of the month, you can expect the daily temps to be a couple of degrees warmer than the average.

Oh Hayley I am so so sorry for everything! I can't believe sometimes how many horrible people there are in the world! I hope your Mum gets over this soon! There is nothing to feel embaressed about! We all have faith in people and sometimes those people just turn out to be evil! I always believe that they will get whats coming to them eventually!

OMG - that is so horrible for your Mom. It's must be so difficult to put your trust into someone and then find out they were only using you. What a jerk! I know your Mom is glad that she has the support of her family (and you have the support of your DIS family!). I hope she can work through this and learn to trust again.

So sorry. Sending good vibes your way for sorting all this out. The hardest thing is when love and trust backfire (yes, that was a pun; gotta keep smiling :) )

Andrea

 Your poor mum. I am SO sorry that she's going through all of this and of course I know that it affects you, too. I can only echo everything everyone else has already stated....I hope she can find trust again, I hope she gets some of her investment back, I hope the AH rots in jail, and I hope you know we're all here for you! I'm thankful that she has you to help her get through this traumatic time.

Oh Dear! Your poor Mum! Bad things do happen to good people. Hopefully your Mum will regain her trust eventually. In the meantime, she has her family and you have us to lean on. :grouphug:

Love and companionship really is what we all want. Creeps like this guy know that and prey on that need. I'm glad we can be here for you.

I hope the creep gets what he deserves, and I hope your mom gets back everything he stole from her and more.

Hayley,

that's a horrible thing to have happen to your mum. There's nothing worse than being a decent, loving and trusting person and having the low lifes of this world take advantage of this.
At least if he is put away for a while your mum can get on with her life knowing he can't bother her.I really hope things work out well for her (and really badly for him as he deserves).

That is terrible! I can't believe that a person could treat another human being like that...Please know that I'm thinking about your mom and your family during this time.

:grouphug: So sorry to hear about your mom's plight. I hope things go in her direction from here on out. As others have said, no need to justify her actons. I have always maintained, the heart wants what the hearts wants and usually no amount of "logic" will make it change its mind. The important thing is that you are all alive, things could have been much, much worse for her. Seems like she knew that and took precautions. What I have learned is this:

What goes around, comes around, maybe not while we are able to see it, but really, it does come around - and usually with a bigger whammie!

What does not kill us, makes us stronger. Use this to make your familial ties that much stronger. Support your mom as best you can. It will bring you that much closer.

Be happy she's alive and just take baby steps until your able to take regular strides.

and last but not least, our DIS family usually is filled with awesome people that I used to escape here to make myself feel better. I always left more hopeful and thus it usually impacted me in far better ways than if I wallowed in it myself.

Feel free to vent and cry if you need, this is a traumatic event and I don't care how often that man did it - its still a horrific ordeal to have to experience. Take care and glad you've been able to pop in during your time.

:grouphug:

Im so sorry that you and your mum are going thru such a terrible time. Prayers and pixie dust to all of you.
All I can say is that some people are so terrible, only the law should take care of them.
I hope your Mum gets her money back, and since it's arson, I hope he goes to jail for a long time.
Vent away.... :thumbsup2

Annie:flower3:

Oh my goodness!! Thinking of you and your mom! :grouphug:

Kristi

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! The support from my Dis friends has been overwhelming and I truly appreciate all your kind words.:grouphug:
I strongly believe in Karma, and believe me, with the trail of evidence he's left he will definitely go to jail, and may even appear on "World's dumbest criminals"!

:yay::yay::yay: How exciting!!! :yay::yay::yay:

Sarah, Loved your photo's, I love all the old stately buildings and castles over there, we are such a young country we don't have anything like that here. :goodvibes

To all who have lost weight, even just a little bit, GOOD ONYA!!!!:thumbsup2
To all of US who can't find their willpower.......oh well.......life's too short! :headache:

Well, It's a home day for me today. Have to catch up on all the :laundy:I haven't had time to do in the last few days. OMG How can one family of 4 have so much washing!

Easier but double the cost.

Woody

Can you please elaborate, Woody? Did the fee go up after the installation, or do you have a choice to use quarters or KTTWC, and cash is cheaper?

Thought I'd share with those of you who are also trying to lose weight ........I managed to lose 5 lbs this week! :woohoo::woohoo:...

:woohoo: WOOT!!!! Congratulations!!!

Just thought I would post a few photos from our weekend away. We visited Chatsworth House which is a spectacular stately home in Derbyshire, England.....

BTW, Michael and Michele (mdwoodman) are the ones who are organizing the HRC DIS Meets.

UPDATE: Oops...I see they beat me to published post!

You guys...

Indeed! Unprovoked, I had a random flutter in my stomach about this 2 weeks ago with a voice saying "buy a PacSafe bag". When I posted the odd feeling I had that just wouldn't go away, Paul and Melodie also posted saying that they made the purchase the very same day I did. Indeed scary! GO GET A REAL JOB PEOPLE! :rotfl:

Thank you .... I was so blown away by the beauty of the place I couldn't stop taking photos. I should spend more time visiting our national treasures as there is certainly something magical and timeless about these beautiful houses.

Some questions for those who have been to Gibraltar before.

The taxis out in the port. Do they take you where you want to go, or have they set tours?

The caves. Can you see these on the same tour as the rock?

Is it better to do the DCL tours, organise one of your own, or just go and get a taxi from the line?

What is best to see for a first and probably only visit?

I have booked (purchased) tickets for the "SkyWalk Combo" which includes:

•Cable Car ticket (options single or return and child or adult)
•Multimedia Tour (hand held guide included in adult ticket only and for use exclusively within the Cable Car Top Station)
•Apes (The apes are wild animals and roam freely throughout the Upper Rock area. However they are usually seen at both the Cable Car Top and Middle Station otherwise known as Apes Den.)
•Nature Reserve entrance ticket - Entrance to: St Michael's Cave, Great Siege Tunnels, City Under Siege Exhibition, Moorish Castle and 100 Ton Gun. (this ticket must be redeemed at the Cable Cart ticket office BEFORE entering any of the sights.) The Nature Reserve ticket must be used on the same day as the Cable Car ticket, see below.)
•FREE Gibraltar Bus Pass (adult or child one day bus pass). This must be collected from the Gibraltarinfo kiosk on the Spanish side of the Gibraltar/Spanish land frontier.

(Note that the Bus Pass isn't really worthwhile, since we won't be going to the land frontier. However, cruise ships normally provide shuttle buses or it's only £1 each for the public bus.)

Tickets were £17.50 each (plus £1 I assume for booking on line). I paid in USD, so it was $52.84 total (within 4 cents of the xe.com rate).

Here's some info about arriving in Gibraltar on a cruise ship:

"Getting to Gibraltar as you know can take place in any number of ways, but arriving by cruise ship leaves little room for doubt about the reasons to visit Gibraltar.

The arrival of the cruise ship in Gibraltar's harbors is nothing short of spectacular, with views of the lighthouse, the Mosque and other splendid sights as you travel though.

Gibraltar is small but packs an incredible amount of interesting and amusing things into an area that is less than the size of many cities. Rising up to an amazing 1300 feet in the air the cliffs are at times nearly sheer, unscalable, and offers, depending on which way you may be looking, views of Morocco, Spain, or the delights of Gibraltar.

Making your way into the Bay of Gibraltar on a cruise ship offers you a vantage point of the delights of Gibraltar that you might not otherwise get. Seeing so much of Gibraltar at one time, viewed from the outside, looking in as it were.

Shops line the streets which are apparent to the Gibraltar cruise ship occupant even from this distance, and the rumors that you've heard about duty free shopping are all true, an excellent reason to come ashore. Not that you need any other reasons to come ashore, with the cable car, the beautiful floral gardens, the Mosque and light house, the caves, the gun, and the amazing history of Gibraltar waiting for you at the end of your sail through the harbor, all displayed in perfect detail as you enter the bay.

Getting to Gibraltar via a cruise ship can be a delightful experience. Offering you a sampler of the multiple things to see and do as you pass, Gibraltar cruise ships are the best way to enter this amazing area, full of history and mystery.

Don't forget to look down as you come into harbor. You may find yourself amused by the antics of a pod of dolphins or amazed by whales playing as you pass.

Take advantage of them all when your cruise ship docks in Gibraltar."

Hayley - I`m so sorry to hear about this man and what he has done to your family. We were victims of a very bizzare incident in our house years ago and I can understand how you feel about the unwanted attention. However none of this reflect badly on you or your family :grouphug:

We have all been buying Pacsafe bags!!! Very sad we have to even consider it isn't it. We must be vigilant, but of course that is a good thing everywhere we go, particularly in any city!!!

My camera has a pacsafe strap on it. DH carries a wallet in his front with a chain and I usually walk around with my hand on my cross body purse. This seems to help along with awareness of your surroundings.

I have reluctantly (because I'm jealous) removed you from the HRC list.

:worship: Thank you so much. I promise to make sure the ship is in tip top shape for this cruise. That one is way too port intensive and is for playing tourist, this one - well, this one is my fun cruise. party: :dance3:

Hope to see all of you on board. I'm sure that Pam will graciously keep me updated and aware. I am sorry for that but excited about the 2 new ports of call. :woohoo:

Thanks for being so quick. :flower3:

OK, I GIVE UP!! I can't keep up!! I used to be able to but there is so much going on now with summer vacations grinding down, and school gearing up... Pathetic really! So, pardon the late replies as I am trying to read and not just skim through...

I finally got caught up. Thank God for my DSIS, She is keeping me up dated. I stopped my facebook games to catch up. This is a long work week for me. I wanted to keep up with some of the details.
The USA Peeps, Is there a way we can let eachother know with out breaking the fun of surprise withthe chocolate exchange who is bringing what. I love chocolate and the thought of getting different ones to taste is awesome.. I hope I bring enough diabetic medication, i am going to enjoy myself. There are a few important things in my life: Family, Disney, and chocolate not always in that order. PM me if you have any ideas. DSIS already has hers and I cannot decide. I see someone is doing snickers, mounds and m&m's. Cannot wait to see what else is comming on board. :yay:

I am bringing a selection of snickers, mint milky ways, dove truffles, dove milk chocolates, butterfingers, heath bars. Each bag gets a couple of 2 kinds. They are all bagged up and ready to go!

So sorry I haven't been posting for a couple of days, you wouldn't believe the last couple of days i have had! Let me start with a little background. My mum has been in a relationship with a man for about 4-5 years, she left him about 6 months ago. Their house is in his name, but when mum sold her house she put a large chunk of money on his home loan as they were in a relationship, it was about $300 000. Since she has left him, her lawyer has started proceedings to retrieve Mum's money, as that was the deal agreed upon. He had to sign all the paperwork last week and was not happy that the house would be sold and he would come out with virtually nothing. So, on Saturday night he burnt the house down, yes...I am serious, he burnt the house to the ground. Luckily Mum had removed all of her things 2 weeks ago with Police present as she was scared of him and what he would do. But the house is completely gone. He has been arrested and charged with Arson, and faced court today.
We have now learnt of his history, and he is a con man who has done this before. He tries to scam women out of money, and has a trail of victims.
Honestly, It is embarrassing to tell people this as it makes us sound like some crazy, weird family. But the truth is, My mum works at Corrective Services, my sister is a psychologist and works as a parole officer, my brother owns a successful JetSki business, and we are all good people.
Anyway, I feel safe with you guys, I know your not judgmental, and I promise we are really nice, good people......maybe a little too trusting.......obviously......:confused3

So, I have been reading on my iPhone, just haven't had a chance to get to the computer. I know there was lots of people I wanted to reply to, please forgive me, I'm back now! :)

Hayley! I am so sorry to read of this! Your poor mum! How positively awful. From the article it appears that this jerk will spend time behind bars, I hope that this is corrrect.

Feel free to vent away - that is what we are here for! We have a great DIS family!!

I am often reminded of what I learned as I was going through my moms accident. God fits us each with a jacket and over our lives it fits differently - sometimes it feels very big, some times it is tight. I imagine that your jackets feels a bit awkward as they are re sizing now. Hang in there, you will see your mum through this awful time, and you two will be closer for it.

Sarah - these are incredible! It makes me realize that we need to take the kids across the pond as there are so many historical treasures there.

I think that dolphins were sighted last TA. In fact, if it hasn't been answered yet - still some pages behind, ask DisneySweetie, PAM, I think she may of seen some, I usually not that lucky or spoke with someone who saw them. If she's interested (your mom) prob best to pack them.
...
Hayley, it is Hayley right?

:grouphug: So sorry to hear about your mom's plight. I hope things go in her direction from here on out. As others have said, no need to justify her actons. I hope that we get to see Dolphins! We saw a pod of them on our last cruise - they are incredible creatures to watch.

See Hayley - our little (HA!) DIS family is there for you!! And I can't agree with this more - what goes around comes around, Karma is a bit** and it will get him!!
