We would love to join. We could add some little prizes at the end? We have 7 people all together with my Mom's cabin and my niece.

I have a wonder***l prize for the winning cabin!!

Is anyone else interested in making up educational packages for kids - a la homeschooling material - for the places on our trip? I'm thinking:

-maps
-history
-culture
-language(s)
-flags

I'd like the trip to be fun, but also really expose the kids to the educational aspects of traveling.

If interested we could sign up for a particular port of call, and bring enough copies to share with the group. I'm feeling that I haven't been able to participate as much as I'd like to in organizing something for the group benefit for this cruise, so I'd like to do this if anyone else is interested.

Good news: I'm off-call for 6 weeks starting right now! All my clients are being covered and I am so looking forward to some down time. We're going camping in the city tonight and tomorrow at a local camping park with our tent trailer. I kept the kids home from school today for a down day - I've been soooooo busy at work. I just want my family around. And, it meant I didn't have to get up early and make lunches!

May be interested in this - Stephen has o bring some school work with him, and we want him to keep a blog as well.

What do you do? I have one more week on call before I am done until after the cruise! Hopefully when I get back from the cruise I will be able to move back to my old job and not be on call anymore!! That would totally make my day!

I don't even pay a fee when I send payment via Paypal, but when I receive money there is a fee. So I guess with the Personal Transfer, the fee is added on to us instead of the recipient?

The dress is stunning. My friend had one custom made in China for the PC cruise. I'm considering it, but want to see if I can lose a few more inches before cruising. Do you know how long they require to make and ship?

Some of the transfers came through with fees. Largest was $2.59, smallest was $0.70. Total is less than $10, so at this point I am dealing with it.

Corrina, I too love your dress. I found one as well - 3 weeks to have it made, and they were having a huge sale, so...

YES!! he ran away for 2 days before he brought himself home!!!!
Thing is I bet she peed herself after she lost the deer and couldnt find me, now him, he just doesnt give a rats backside.

LOL - sorry have to laugh at this as I think our furbabies were a bit like this. Gracie was such an instigator, and Chelsea just followed along. Gracie would run when she saw us, Chels would hop into the car...

ATTENTION ALL WBTA CRUISERS:

:banana::banana::banana:ONLY 3 MORE MONTHS!!!! :banana::banana::banana:

:banana::banana::dance3::banana: WAHOO!!!!!! :banana::dance3::banana::banana:

Noel, you ever thought about getting into the travel agency business?:thumbsup2

Ii agree Noel, you seem to have a calling for this!

I know that "Walt & Di" were interested in joining us on Thursday, but we got news back from Sharon at the tour company saying that there's only room for 12, and we have 11, so adding two more would be over capacity. In case Walt isn't able to keep up on the boards, know he's interested. Perhaps Friday would be okay with them. :confused3

I'm pretty sure there was someone else, too, but I can't recall who it was either.

We are on the same flight as Walt and Di, we arrive at 8:55AM local time. We were going to take a van to the hotel, drop luggage and then get the 2 day HOHO tickets and jst do our own thing. however, I haven't been able to confirm that we can actually drop luggage, so...

Can't believe how quick time is moving now! So much to finish up, so little time.

The following people have expressed an interest in shared ground transport from Barcelona area hotels to the port. Nothing has been arranged as yet.....

I am fairly certain that Paula was only keeping track of who was interested in the group transportation, not volunteering to make the arrangements for the bus. However, I don't recall who had either considered or committed to volunteer to lead this. :confused3

My apologies if I'm sounding anxious and pushy....just blame it on my profession of IT project manager! Logistically speaking, I'm just thinking it's probably a good idea that we are more seriously doing something about this now. Perhaps those of you who have done this before would know, but I'm thinking if we need to make a payment to the organizer in order to secure the passenger bus, we need to keep time on our side. Before we can even get to that, we obviously need to get confirmation as to who will or will not be wanting to be a part of this.

Thoughts???? :confused3

I think you are correct but of course as you probably guess, I am just as concerned about transportation etc.

I have not done this before in Barcelona. The only transportation arrangements I have made our for us to be transferred from one hotel to the other via taxi.

Maybe someone will volunteer to arrange the transportation. I can do some research on this end in the interim.

Just my thoughts...

We had such a lovely day!! We spent about 7 hours touring some of the many forests in the area. We saw 3 big horn sheep, 5 does (deer), 4 bucks (deer) with beautiful velvet on their antlers, a young eagle and a black bear! We were with a couple of good friends and our GS. We also had a wonderful picnic lunch of cold fried chicken, potato salad, melons, banana bread (DCL recipe!!), cookies, chips..... Have I told you how much I love living here with my Montana Man? :lovestruc :cloud9:

Ok, back to cruise planning......

I'm happy to report that I am not only ready for the "Silver Rush" in about 26 hours, but I've also secured my tour for Friday, September 17!
Unfortunately, it means I won't be back in time for the DIS Meets at the Hard Rock Cafe, however. :sad2:

I want to see more of Spain besides Barcelona, and this is a good fit for me. You go to Torres Winery, Montserrat, and beautiful Sitges. You do have free-time to be on your own at Montserrat and Sitges as well. It's 63 EUR per person for a 10 hour tour, and that includes payment for the rack railway to go up Montserrat.

http://bcnshop.barcelonaturisme.com...7-hzQAe_vwBcKQbS9zSXP9eu4FgyqukbNZKRF0ioi5m-Y

This site
also offers it, but there is no discount when you purchase through Viator Tours instead of the Barcelona Tourism site noted above.

If you book this, here are a couple of tips:
  • The Barcelona Tourism site has you pay with a PayPal engine. It defaulted to Spanish, but as soon as I changed the country from the drop-down menu, it changed the site to English.
  • I chose to pay via Credit Card, not a PayPal account balance/checking account link, using my no-exchange rate Capital One card. Look for the link to make a credit card payment just below the CC logos on the left.
  • By default, the PayPal engine was set to convert the currency. At today's current exchange rate to USD, it was cheaper to not convert the currency into US dollars (by nearly $2). So I selected the option to keep the currency in EUR and accept what the credit card company's rate/fees are since I have no added fees from Capital One. So as always, do your homework if have any currency conversions to consider.

Shirts are paid for!!! One more thing done! :thumbsup2

I'm working the Toy Story event at my Disney Store. All stores in North America are holding a Toy Story Scavenger Hunt from 11am-2pm. I don't know many details because I haven't worked in over a week, but it's a free event and open to all children ages 3 and over. Just wanted to pass that information along! :)

Has anybody seen Toy Store 3 yet? I'm still hoping to see it soon!

Was the 30 euros each or per taxi?

Per person

What are you emailing? What error are you getting? Please PM me and let me know. If youa re sendig a photo please send to photos@transatlanticpirates.com. Glenn has to manually add those.

I'm over 3!! :yay::yay: Drat! No Disney Store near here. :sad2: I think we will wait to see it on the ship. Price of the movies is included....;) I love, love, love Toy Story though and don't know if I can hold out if we get an invite from friends to join them at the movies. :rolleyes1

We have a private day tour booked for the 17th and a half day for the 18th in Barcelona. I am trying to get one for the 16th to see the local sites as my traveling companions have never been. On the 18th they are picking us up at the hotel with our luggage at 830 and dropping us at the she at 1.

As for Maderia. We are interested in a private tour as well. I want to find one that will allow time for the winery.

Tortola is still up in the air. I think we may do a private tour versus the DCL west we are booked on. I have sent an email to inquiry.

Well it is late and it has been a long week. We have another ballet recital tomorrow. It is DGD (that just turned 4) first recital. DGD (9) had hers tonight and it was awesome. DGD (13) has her tomorrow afternoon. Then it is onto summer activities. Dh is watching 5 of the Grandchildren for the summer. I am certain it will not alwys be pleasant to come home. Four of them are girls:scared1:

For those of you interested in the Madeira tour, I have heard back from Daniel Taxi as to cost which will be 25 Euros per person for a 5 1/2 hour tour leaving at 11 Am and going to Old Blandy at 4:15PM for 15 persons.

I have asked the following questions.

1. Will you be able to take us all back to the ship after the tour?
2. Where will you take us on the tour?
3. What will we be able to see while on the tour?
4. What extra charges should we be prepared for?
5. Where is a recommended stop for lunch and approximate cost?
6. May some of us prepay on Paypal?

If anyone can think of any other questions, please let me know. Stay tuned.

I got to meet our newest family member, Daisy, yesterday!!! They've decided to add "Princess" to her first name! So Princess Daisy it is!

Congrats to your folks on the new puppy! And love the Princess name. My daughter often chooses to add "Princess" to her name as well, and often tells people that her name is "Princess Sophia". We were at the grocery store the other day and another customer (who works in the salon where we get her hair cut looked over and said "Why it's Princess Sophia! How are you today Princess?" There were several surprised looks after that!

I was a little disappointed to learn that my flight from MCO back home went down $40. Oh well.

At least you have your return flight booked! I'm still optimistically hoping that prices will drop further!

John and I are considering using Daniel Madeira Taxis for an excursion. Anyone else interested? As you see, the more persons on the tour, the cheaper the tour. DCL tour is $155 per person for same thing.

Wasn't sure which tour length you are looking at, but I sent you a PM!

PRIVATE TORTOLA ISLAND TOUR

Sounds interesting, but as short as a period we are in Tortola, I may be tempted to stick to a DCL excursion or the beach here.

I just sent you the money for our shirts this morning. Just a word of warning though. My Paypal account is funded by my bank account and I use it all the time to make purchases and have never been charged a fee once. I followed your advice to use Personal Transfer and for the first time ever I was charged a fee. It was only 50 cent and therefore no issue, but it did annoy me. So I assume they only charge this when you use the Personal Transfer option and not for purchases.
There is generally no charge as long as you mark a personal transfer as "monies owed" and not for purchase or anything like that (and are using a funded account like your bank account and not a credit card.) ppcalc.com is a great site for calculating paypal fees and how much additional money you need to send to cover the fees if you want to use a credit card.

One of my formal dresses and my semi-formal dress have been worn on the last cruise. I love them and don't get as many opportunities to wear them as I would like so I have no problem recycling them.
Umm. I've worn the same formal dress on 3 or 4 cruises. The only things that change from one cruise photo to the other is the size and age of the kids, and my hair style!

Well my evening gown that I had custom made in China arrived yesterday.
It has loads of intricate embroidery and the photo really does not do it justice. This is the most beautiful item of clothing I ever owned. I can't wait to try it on later. It definitely does need a tiara. This is a gown fit for a princess if I have ever seen one.

Corinna

That dress is absolutely stunning!

I forgot to say ,this is a heads up for those people who are out and about in Barcelona, prior to the cruise. On our Med cruise this year, 2 different people from the DIS had their wallets/purses pickpocked in Barcelona.

In the advance copy of the Passporter book that I received, they mentioned that "Dave" lost his wallet in Barcelona on their scouting trip and they suspect he was pickpocketed.

Hey, why not? If there are no objections I will be happy to post our plans for each port as we figure them out. We want to hit the highlights of each place and really get a feel for each place in our short time there.

Thanks - will do! I'm a planner. DH and I are making maps of each place with the places we want to see and where the bus catches us and stuff so we are prepared. I'm pretty flexible too but like the have the 'bones' of the planning in place to fall back on. You should have seen our DW touring plans!!!

I am a compulsive planner, but unfortunately I am seriously tied up with work projects and just don't have the time this time around to focus on it.

We have booked a tour from Barcelona Day Tours for the 16th from the airport at around 1pm. We booked the driver plus a guide in a minibus. Would anyone like to join us? It reduces the cost for all of us to around 37-50 euros. We liked the idea of the driver staying with the luggage and a tour guide, too.

We aren't doing the flamenco show as we thought it would be too much for the kids to sit through, with a heavy price tag should it not work out. Instead we are going to find some dancers on Las Ramblas and pitch in to the hat a few euros.

Our plan so far:

Day 1: tour bus from the airport to sights (skipping Park Guell) x 4 hours (in the bus if a kid falls asleep due to time change we can just have one of us hang out with them). Check-in at the hotel, then strolling on Las Ramblas until we grab dinner. Dinner on Las Ramblas. Kid factor: very friendly.

Day 2: Breakfast near the hotel. Then down to the Bouqueria (the market- do I have the name wrong?), then to Park Guell for the kids to run around and eat our market food for lunch. Then head down to the Aquarium. Then back to the hotel for rest. Then a late dinner and on to the Montjuic magic fountain. Long day, but the little one can be in the stroller for the Aquarium. I think we might use the HOHO bus for our transport that day, will see)

Day 3: Breakfast then on to the Picasso museum. Back to the hotel to gather up our luggage and head to the ship noonish.

That's the rough plan so far. Trying to keep in mind the kids' fatigue possibility but to see a lot that interests them and us. DH really wants to see the Picasso museum so we are doing it on Saturday where it's our only activity so it won't be sandwiched in.

You have some great plans. Keep the info coming!!

Arrival/Disembark On Board/Departure

Barcelona 4:00/9:31
Gibraltar 6:00/8:00 5:30/6:00
Madeira 6:00/8:30 8:00/9:30
St Maarten 6:00/8:30 5:00/6:00
Tortola 6:00/8:30 2:30/3:45
Castaway Cay 10:00/11:30 3:30/4:00
Port Canaveral 5:00/8:30AM

Straight from DCL. Hope this helps clarify. We sure have a short time in Castaway Cay. I think I may just snorkel and go lay on the beach.

The short time in CC was always one thing I didn't like about this cruise. But I didn't realize we had so little time in Tortola as well! And I was looking forward to Tortola because it is an island we didn't do on our Eastern cruise previously. May need to keep it simple or stick to a DCL excursion in Tortola to make sure you don't miss the boat!

I was planning to wear the new evening gown on the first formal night, but if it really is on a port day, I will wear my other evening gown as I can changed into this within a couple of minutes.

That first formal night if it's really on Gibralter day will be cutting it very close for those of us with early dining. What a shame!

As to the dress, I paid for it on May 10th, sent the measurements on May 13th and received it yesterday so it took just over a month. They say that it takes about 35 to 40 days.

Corinna

I've always wondered how you order something like this? I've had friends who have had suits and dresses and shirts made overseas, but never knew how they did it.

Geez...Tortola and St. Maarten both got cut short on the front end from what they have been publishing. That stinks!

Agreed!

I agree. We are hardly at Castaway Cay either. Sure going to cut short whatever we plan on those three islands.

Just my thoughts.
:surfweb:

I agree!

You gave our wish list right? Cable Car and basket ride...well at least that's my wish list.

I am fairly certain that Paula was only keeping track of who was interested in the group transportation, not volunteering to make the arrangements for the bus. However, I don't recall who had either considered or committed to volunteer to lead this. :confused3

I was going to do this, but do to my injury I will have to see. I got i qoute a while a go. They said we should make reservation about 6 weeks out. So right now we have a little time.

Took the girls to see Disney on Ice, Disneyland Adventure this morning, they loved it (and sent me broke with the merchandise!). Bella went dressed in her full Disneyland Minnie costume and loved all the attention she got. Nice start to the school winter break. Yay, 3 weeks of sleep-ins and no packing lunch boxes! :yay:

I spoke with a truly lovely CM this morning at DCL about the FSC and she apologized profusely that we would not be getting a refund/credit as oil closed at $77/barrel yesterday. She was so sweet and kept telling me how much I am going to enjoy our cruise that I kinda forgot for a minute that they were keeping some of my money that I had hoped to use for excursions. I want to work for Disney when I retire. If they can make you forget or even feel ok about losing money then they are doing an awesome job training their employees. :rotfl2:

Do they pump happy gas through that place or what?:rotfl:

I have some port specific worksheets that I made for my kids, they are 8 & 9, If you think they would be appropriate I am happy to share. I also made a cruise journal I can share. :goodvibes

But then again I've been trying to figure out if I was even going to sail. And now that is in jeopardy again. DS is at a Six Flags park today and called earlier to say he lost one of his hearing aids on a roller coaster. There goes my cruise money if I have to replace it. Wonder if my homeowners insurance will cover it? I've had good luck with Disney lost and found. Let's hope Six Flags is just as effective. He knows exactly where he lost it. He felt it go and almost caught it. So hopefully they will truly do a sweep of the ground under the coaster like they said they would.

Sending pixie dust. I hope it gets returned!

So, My Dad calls me last week to ask if he can borrow my kids for the night, slightly confused I say sure, but why? He says he really wants to see TS3 but thought a 58 year old man might look like a bit of a weirdo going to a kids movie by himself,. So, him and his wife are taking the kids on Friday, I guess DH and I will wait for the cruise, I hope they show it!:woohoo:
