Escaped last night for our last dinner at D'land for some time. The traffic down was horrendous - last week it took us just slightly more than an hour on a Friday night - and that was going through downtown L.A. at 6:00! - but yesterday we left home at 3:30 and arrived at 5:45, and it's only 45 miles away!!! Thank goodness we were listening to Broadway on Sirius radio!

Dinner wasn't until 8:45 so we had plenty of time to explore so we went off to DCA. Folks, for those of you who will be coming this way get ready for some crowds over there. World of Color is really packing the folks in. The first show was at 8:15 and the lines for the viewing areas were already stretching quite a bit through the park. We decided that we'll hit it in Sept of '11 and give it time to get all the issues sussed out.

During dinner our waiter was chatting with us about Barcelona - he and his partner were there last year - and we were just getting more and more excited about this whole experience. We had thought about going to see the Black Madonna but had scratched it off our list.....upon his recommendation it's back on. Oh, we're gonna be busy in Barcelona, I think. Still have to get the Segway tour in there somehow as well!

Wishing everyone a great weekend. More house to pack up and a drive to San Diego tomorrow to see the in-laws. And another garage sale next weekend.....if you're nearby, stop in for some great deals!! :goodvibes

I know that "Walt & Di" were interested in joining us on Thursday, but we got news back from Sharon at the tour company saying that there's only room for 12, and we have 11, so adding two more would be over capacity. In case Walt isn't able to keep up on the boards, know he's interested. Perhaps Friday would be okay with them. :confused3

I'm pretty sure there was someone else, too, but I can't recall who it was either.
Thanks!!!:goodvibes

I have a wonder***l prize for the winning cabin!!

Some of the transfers came through with fees. Largest was $2.59, smallest was $0.70. Total is less than $10, so at this point I am dealing with it.

We are on the same flight as Walt and Di, we arrive at 8:55AM local time. We were going to take a van to the hotel, drop luggage and then get the 2 day HOHO tickets and jst do our own thing. however, I haven't been able to confirm that we can actually drop luggage, so...

Can't believe how quick time is moving now! So much to finish up, so little time.
I sure hope there was no fee attached with my payment. If so, please let me know!!!! So you all are arriving on Thursday? I could have sworn someone was arriving on Friday morning. <sigh>

Right, formal wear. I love the idea of dressing up, but the reality is I'm not that comfortable dressed up too much and can't see myself in a ball gown. What are you all considering wearing? I have noticed that the longer cruises see more dressing up than the shorter ones, and I will indeed make a big effort.:lmao:
I don't own a ball gown. Can't wear high heels, my doctor would come onboard and ***** slap me. :) I have a couple of very nice pants suits that I will wear with my crown. And I will oh and ah all the princess dresses and take your pics....

Yours is stunning Corrina...princess:princess:princess:

I think Terry and I have decided to just take a taxi from the hotel to the ship. We are catergory 4 and I would not be interested in a paid upgrade. We love our room, it is midship almost directly over the stabilizer bar so I should not be too sick, I don't look good in pea green skin.:sick:

I really want to map out a nice tour when we get off the plane. I like the idea of the 4 hour tour that meets us at the airport. Thanks so much for that info Kimberley. :goodvibes

I am so excited right now, I can barely contain myself..:hippie::hippie::woohoo::woohoo:

Hope everyone has a good weekend! Myself and DH are off to London for the weekend. Going to see Bon Jovi!

By the time I get back tomorrow night, I guess.hmm..what ...50 pages :rotfl2::surfweb:
Good job I read fast!
Have a great weekend!

Lyn and Bob

Have fun at the Bon Jovi concert!!!

Oh she is so on my list. I had dinner last week with a friend who showed me on my city guide (thanks to whomever told me about that app!!!!) exactly where she was.

Oh, I always shower and dress nicely, and do look as smart as I can, it is just the more dressy things I feel out of place in!!! I really don't know why.:confused3 Even when we went to Topsiders we showered and changed. It is all part of 'going out'. I just couldn't turn up in what I had been wearing all day, wouldn't do at all.
Ofcourse I know you will shower:rotfl2:, I meant me,24/7 at home, jogging stuff or nurses uni on,never as much put anything remotly pretty on, I go over the top on my cruise;) I am sure you will look gorgeous in whatever you wear super dressy or cool elegant Marilyn.

Glad you had a goodnight out, sounds great, thats one of the things I will never forget about LA>>> traffic !!! esp the day after MJ died ,going to hollywood, not the best move in the book!

Although I know not everyone has chosen to have their flight and hotel info posted, you might want to check out Post #2 to see if that will ring a bell as to who you were thinking about.

Speaking of lists....I'll have updates posted by the end of today. :)

For those encountering fees when using PayPal for a Personal Transfer from a PayPal balance or a bank account:

There are fees for
  • Money crossing borders, and
  • Currency conversion.
To find the fees, click on the arrow at the bottom of the PayPal link. It says:

"Additional fees for cross border payments and currency conversion.

"A cross border fee of 1.0% applies to payments received from senders in another country.

"Payments requiring a currency conversion include a 2.5% fee."

There is no fee for a transfer within a country, using the same currency (for example USD from California to Florida).

Woody

Important facts for everyone to pay attention to when using Paypal. Thanks, Woody. You are such a wonderful resource for information to your fellow cruisers.:thumbsup2

I don't know how our European suppliers are setting up their accounts but I just checked my accounts and thus far, no fees unless paying $1.26 for each Euro included the fee? If a fee shows up at a much later date, I will be sure to post.:confused3

I love all the gorgeous gowns people are buying!! I wish I could sew as I found this fabulous Vogue pattern that has all the combos I want.

My mother or Grandmother always made all my clothes and costumes for us or grandkids so I never learned to sew which was not too smart on my part.

Here is pics of what I am looking for if anybody has any suggestions where I can find things like these:

I have a couple of cocktail type dresses Maz that I shall be wearing, plus trousers and nice tops, as well as a couple of 'cruise' dresses (nice summery dresses)....I do own a ball gown but don't think I shall be bringing that....

Marilyn; Mum and I have a couple of cocktail dresses, I have a couple of maxi dresses but for us it's what we normally wear with extra nice jewellery and shoes.

Last summer I wore cropped pants and tops, which I will be wearing again:)

For us we go with the are we comfortable in this if we're not it stays at home if we do it gets packed:woohoo:

Don't stress these days anything goes:flower3:

Love that pattern Noel, especially the beautiful lacey jacket in the first picture. Sorry can't help as to where you'd source it though.......I often wish I could dress make as I have lots of good ideas!:rolleyes1

The last few nights I have been awake in the middle of the night and still awake at 5am.....what's the betting that tomorrow morning I shall want to sleep in and miss the booking time with DCL?!!!:scared1:

Must remember to set my alarm just in case.....and take the lap top to bed!:lmao:

Hope everyone gets what they want booked :goodvibes

re pay pal, I had a fee but I paid it I think, not you? I woud hate for you to be out of pocket after al this hard work and hassle:confused3

Seriously, I am not worried aboout the fees. The very vast majority were without fees, so, please no stress!!

Lynne, I tend to go over the top as well. I don't get a chance to really dress up often, so when I can I do!!

Noel, I have a friend that sews for extra money. She is doing Snow White and Cinderella dresses for Becca. If you are interested let me know and I will put you in contact with her. For Beccas dresses I supplied the pattern and every thing needed and she is doing the work. I just didn't have the time (or skill).

Yes, please pm me with her information. I would really like to get at least one combo of this made for the cruise.

Calling all Siver CC members who will be able to book tonight - Are you ready!!! I'm not!!!! I'm not sure what I want to do. :confused3 I've been reading the boards, the pdf preview file of the passporters cruise book, and the DCL website but have no firm plans yet.

Although the private tour in Madeira being set up sounds like fun. Is there still room for 2 more?

Well, off to do some errands and back to the computer for research. :hippie:

Yes, I do agree Scotland is a tad far to go for a fitting. However, people are ordering from China...maybe she should advertise on Ebay. Sounds like a good way to make money if you have the talent. So few people I know can sew. Just a thought.

If you are interested in the pattern, I could forward you the link. What I like about the pattern is that it would look well on any body style.

I am like you still trying to decide last minute details. No plans for Castaway Cay as we are there such a short time. Undecided about Tortola and St Maarten too. I think I know what we are doing in Gibraltar and Madeira.

I may just book a few things we might do and if things change, I will cancel them. How about everyone else?

Yes, still room as I have not got all complete details yet. Send me a PM and I will put your name and how many on the list. I am still waiting for another confirming email on details.

Noel, i agree, it would suit anybody, Mum has retired now, she does bit n bobs but really enjoys her retirement. She used to work in a design room, making stuff that the designers designed to see what they "really" looked like and if it was possible to make them before going into production. Dont ask her what she thinks of an outfit cause she will turn over the seams and check them out:rotfl2:

I have just remembered I have came to work and have forgoten to do my Dads fathers day card:confused:
Oh well, Len will have to do it.(fathers day in the uk tom)
