FE questions...

I was trying to get the FE groups set, and confirmed so that people who were making things could finish up and not worry about things changing. This is why I was asking for confirmations a couple of weeks ago, and to be honest I am not getting as far as I wanted. As I know not everyone can hang out here like some of us do, and that we are a hard group to keep up with, I have also sent PM's and am not getting replies.

So, I guess I just need to know how to proceed. Am I being overly anal?:rotfl: If so, I am sure I can find something else to obsess about for the next 94 days!! :rotfl2:

Also - has anyone that was GTY been assigned to a cabin? Maybe the people I am looking for will come out of the woodwork once cabin assignments start?:confused3

I think you are not being overly anal. I have sent a PM to one person on our FE list and an email over two weeks ago with no response.

At some point, you must remove those persons who don't respond either here, on FB, or by PM. If they don't respond and we don't have a cabin number, how would we deliver our FE gifts?

Might I suggest that we do a cut off by the middle of July say July 18? I would suspect that at 60 days before the cruise people would have cabin numbers and those who might have to cancel would know their new plans.

Just my thoughts....
:surfweb:

I think it was closer to 30 days before that we got our room number for the PC cruise, though as long as you know they are going room numbers can be updated on here.

I think that is a very important point as I did not know that it takes that long for DCL to assign room numbers.

Noel, I like the 60 days cut-off.

I am making a "family/group" gift so I only need to know if there is more then one household in a room, therefore I have plans to make a couple extra. But it would be nice to have time to do the packaging with family/group details.

It is a real pain if you are waiting for your number. There were so many of us on the PC cruise, and it was so exciting when they all came through. I understand why they do it, but it is still a nuisance.

Penny:

My thought are that while people may not know their room number, they would at least be pretty much committed to going on the cruise.

I was not advocating removing people from the FE list who have guaranteed rooms but those who have not responded to numerous queries by PM, FB, email or posts here.

Just my thoughts...

I do agree there. We should have all paid in full by now, so barring disasters should know if we are going, so really people should be letting Sue know.

For those who don't know, Race for Life is run each year at various venues up and down the country to raise money for Cancer Research. Run by women, they typically dress in pink, many with photos or tributes to family members or friends who have died of cancer. Many survivors take part too!!! It is a great fun event and you can run, walk or crawl. I'm sure there is something similar in the US.

Beautiful photo Maz!:thumbsup2

Sure I did confirm, please let me know if not! Thanks for all you're doing

btw we haven't had our cabin assignment yet :rolleyes1

Oh I hope it's quicker this time!:yay:

Ladies, exactly! One may not know one's room number, but should know if one is committed to the cruise and FE participation.

So, hopefully by the time we sail we will be whole - but as we have seen with Stephens wrist injury, things are not always simple...

Not me, but Becca broke her arm. clean break with a "buckle" of the radius. Not sure what buckle means, but she has 98 days to heal... :confused3

Poor little squirt, they splinted it today and the splint makes her keep her arm bent... She is miserable... I didnt have the heart to tell her that the sack may go above the elbow OR that it is likely that she will have it for the rest of her summer break...:scared1::sad1:

CALGON... Take me away...

On a positive note, our request for rotation 1 is in, as are our palo changes... Oh - and we got the address for the port so that we can send magnets for day one ahead of time... :) Its the little things, right?! :cool1:

I am so sorry about Becca's misfortune. Lets hope that by the time the cruise comes round, it will be all healed and forgotten about.

Hi everyone.
I have been back from the 15th May Med cruise for just over a week now.
I am sorry I havent been on this meet thread or any others since I got back. Illness and personal stuff have just got in the way.
I cannot beleive how many pages have been posted and a whole new chapter !!!.
If I have missed anything important could someone let me know please.

I have never done a trip report but if anyone has any questions about the DCL med Cruise, I might be able to answer them. :)
We had a fantastic time on the cruise and I would do the same cruise again in a heartbeat.
The Ports were mostly a good mixture of Countries and places and reminded me of how beautiful Europe is. There are so many places on the itinerary that I would like to go back too.
The Magic was lovely as ever and I think pretty full, must have been the low prices sucking us all in !!.
There was 1 formal and 2 semi formal nights (11 night cruise), most people that I saw dressed as per code. I saw plenty of Tux's on formal night.
For those who have children (or adults), there were plenty of character photo sessions and lots of characters just wandering round the ship.
We did not do any organised excursions, just went off and did our own thing, at the ports, which worked out pretty well.
I cant think of anything else, but just ask if you want to know anything.
I will now go back and try to skim through this last chapter :surfweb:.
Jan

Welcome back. I hope you had a wonderful time. We only had one formal night and one semi-formal night on the April 24th Med cruise, which was also a 11 night sailing.

This is so funny .... and so true :rotfl:

What about Eyeore .... he can't be gay .... he may be male and live alone, but he's way too miserable :sad2:

Don't you believe this for a minute. I have a gay guy in my team and he is the most miserable individual I have ever met. Actually, next to him, Eeyore would appear to be unbearably cheerful.

I know I mentioned this before, but I would love to get a group (ok at least a couple of people) together to enjoy this with. I emailed the company and this is the response I got. I signed up for the 8:40am time so that I could still get to Mahalo beach to watch the planes.

ATV Island Tour & Orient Beach tour

The ATV Island Tour & Orient Beach Tour provides an exciting guided tour via
ATV sports quadbikes around the French Side of St Maarten.

Its an absolutely unique way to "sightsee" and tour the island in the fresh
air and outside the confines of buses and vans. The 2.5hr tour travels by
public road for around 50% of the trip and on "Offroad" dirt tracks and
beach for the other 50% of the excursion.

After being picked up at the cruise terminal, you will head to Point Blanch,
for your safety briefing and departure. There is adequate storage under the
seat for any bags or valuables.

The Quadbikes are all new, well maintained, and are "automatic", with no
gears to worry about, so they are easy and safe for beginners. Helmets
(provided free of charge) are compulsory. You will ride along palm lined
public roads, off road dirt tracks, and sections of the beach.

There are a couple of stops for photo opportunities, and a highlight of this
tour is the stunning panoramas of Orient Bay and Pinel Island on the French
side of the Island. You will also enjoy great views of St. Barths, and the
deserted Tintemare Island, which all provide great photo opportunities. The
tour then heads down from the hills and onto Orient Beach, where you will
spend an hour or so, at our Orient Beach club. There are bar, restaurant,
shower, and toilet facilities. Swimming at Orient Bay is great, and a
wonderful way to freshen up after your "dirtbiking". (Please note that free
sunloungers are no longer available at this location but are available for
rent on the beach). Then, its back onboard, for the return ride to
Philipsburg.

Finally you will climb a steep mountain road way above the cruise terminal,
where you can get great photos looking down on your cruise ship from high
above the bay of Philipsburg.

Pickup Time at the cruise Ship Terminal is 8:40am / 11.40am / 2pm (transfer
time is under 10 mins).

The excursion is $69usd single riders, $55usd double riders, $33usd under
12yrs.
Riders must be 18yrs or older and we do not recommend the tour for under
7yrs.

That sounds great. Do you know if you need a driving license to ride?

I am watching the news and crying. There probably are not a lot of DIS people who have tracked Abby Sunderland, the CA girl that is sailing around the world. As a home school mom, my Abby and I charted her course and have read her blog every week. I am very sad and crying when I found out that she is missing at sea. As a mom, I cannot imagine that feeling. Okay, on to something happier. I know someone on the boards will make me smile!

I am so glad that she has been found alive. When she went missing, this was all over the news in the UK.

Just curious who the camera people are ?? What I mean is , whos bringing the gear ??? LOL

Ill be bringing my Nikon D-90 that I got specifically for this trip , but actually got it early cause I went to the Philippines in Dec ....

I will be bringing all three of my lenses' ... 18/270 tele - my wide angle and the macro lens ....

So any others out there ?????:confused3

pirate:

At the moment I just have a tiny Samsung point and shoot camera. However, I am seriously considering getting either a Fuji Finepix or Panasonic Lumix.

Well, we officially cancelled the cruise this morning. I am still pretty sad about it as I was really looking forward to it. But in reality, we just could not do it this year. Since we moved back to Florida in April we had to be realistic. All our vacation savings went for the move, so that is that.
Hope you all have a magical time and I look forward to reading trip reports!!!

I am sorry that you won't be able to join us.

So in my mind I have broken this summer into thirds based on the Magic sailings. First third is the early Barcelona sailings. The second is the Baltic sailings and the final third is the late Barcelona sailings.

I'm so excited because the Magic has arrived in Dover and is beginning the second third of the summer!!

Can't wait - it's going to be September before we know it!!

I can't believe that the Magic was in the UK yesterday. So close, yet so far away. :sad2:

After the EBTA, we enjoyed seeing the Magic Fountain of Montjuic.

Woody

We were supposed to have a Dis at Montjuic to watch the fountain show the evening before our Med cruise, but I was so exhausted that I was fast asleep before it started. I wish I had made it now.

Is anyone doing tiaras for formal night? Becca wants one, and I am trying to get her to reuse the one from BBB...

I was not planning to, but as I will have a dress fit for a princess, maybe I should. Incidentally, I had a message this morning that the dress has shipped. I can't wait to get it. Hopefully it will be here by the end of the week.

Dover has a great webcam but I think I am late. I hope this is where the ship docks:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/kent/content/webcams/dover_webcam1.shtml

Thanks for this. I have bookmarked it for future reference.

I think the ship left already by the time I found it. Keep it for next Saturday! I loved Andrew's pictures! Thanks for sharing it! The price of the tour is high!

The next time the Magic will be in Dover will be on June 24th as she is doing 12 night cruises out of Dover.

We looked at that cruise also and agree was too expensive for us. If it had docked in Southhampton, I would have stayed with family!!

Now it is getting spooky. We both have family in Frankfurt and we both have family in Southampton.

I didn't realize there was a prince and princess night...what night is that? Jason and I have very fancy Disney Princesses tuxedo sets and/or if it's not a formal night we have Disney Princess neckties, of course, so we'll be done up in our princess regalia for sure!!

On our Med cruise, the Prince and Princess menu was served on formal night so I assume it will be the same on the Transatlantic. It was pretty much the Golden Mickey's Menu, that had been re-themed, but it was very nice.

I'm actually considering doing a Port Day special that I'm hopeful they'll offer called 20/20/20. You get to choose three (3) services from the following choices, each 20 minutes in length, for $99.

  • re-hydrating facial
  • neck/shoulder massage
  • back massage
  • scalp massage
  • arm/hand massage
  • foot/ankle massage

I'm thinking Gibraltar day would work for me if it's offered. I like it because of the variety over a full 60 minutes. Most massages are 50 minutes and much more than $99.

The other thing I know I want to sign up for is basically for the scalp massage, which makes me melt. If you want to look it up, know it's a Salon service, not Spa service. It's called the Frangipani Scalp Treatment. I've read WONDERFUL reviews of this experience.

:thumbsup2 Oh good!! So glad that you took advantage of it!

I did the 20 20 20 port special on the day we were in Naples and it was fantastic. Apart from the options listed, they also offered a Hot Stone Massage. So I had the neck and shoulder massage, hot stone massage and facial.

Ladies, exactly! One may not know one's room number, but should know if one is committed to the cruise and FE participation.

Exactly. I don't have our room assignment yet, but we are definitely coming. I have finished my FE gifts and there is nothing stopping me going on this cruise.

We are going to have to compare our family genealogy at some point!
!

DH would be up for this. He has researched his family a few generations back. The family in Frankfurt is on my side and the family in Southampton is on DH's side.

Very proud of them (and their mum) :)

For those planning on doing a tour where they pick you up at the airport, do the tour, then have them drop you off at your accomodations. This is something we're looking into and comparing prices (and still waiting on my TA to give me THEIR suggestion to comnpare)--- but I have a question. How do you know who you can trust if you're doing a tour where you get out of the vehicle... and all that you bring with you (luggage) is with you in the vehicle? I have fears of getting there, getting picked up, doing the tour and getting out of the vehicle for photos or whatever at a stop and them taking off with everything we own while we're in Barcelona. can you say nightmare? LOL
No one else is worried about this? Just curious.... (yes, I'm a worrywart)

Thanks for the comment about our granddaughters. They are just wonderful and the easiest of the 8 to look after. They just play with each other all the time and talk non stop. Their mum gets worn out!!!!:rotfl2:

I would be like you finding things to worry about and that would be a big worry to me. I guess you can only go with and trust the reputation of a good company. Or leave someone sitting in the van at each stop.:confused3

We were planning on using the metro for our morning tour but we would be very interested in one of the guided tours (taking advantage of the airport pickup instead of a taxi) if 4 others wanted to join us. We arrive the morning of the 17th.

We arrive on Sept 17 at approx 9:15AM.....we would be interested in doing a guided tour with you. There are 2 of us. Let me know if you are still looking into this. :goodvibes

Why don't you PM me and I will send you my email address. I am our family historian.

I have quite a bit on my side but not at my as DH's family. 17 generations back to the UK on DH's side (Mayflower descendant) and at least I think 8 generations to Germany on DH's.

DH's family are originally from the county of Norfolk where they were either ship builders or farmers. DH's family moved to Southampton when DH was 16 or 17. My family pretty much comes from an area that is in modern day Poland. 3 quarters of my grandparents settled in Frankfurt during or after the Second World War. Only my maternal grandmother was born in Frankfurt, but her family again came from an area that is now Poland.

Corinna

I don't know, have a busy weekend with the family (early Father's Day and BinL's late birthday) and you all notch up far too many pages.

Spent the weekend having a very nice Indian meal, staying over Mums and then going to a Vintage Car rally today! All very nice but now have to try and catch up!

of course you can , your a Pirate .....
TAKE WHAT YOU CAN !!!!

GIVE NOTHING BACK pirate:

Well, we are off in the morning to Walt Disney World! Our daughter starts her professional internship with the Mouse next week. We're sad she's leaving us, and excited for her all at the same time! We don't usually visit the World at this hot, crowded time of year, but it should be fun nonetheless!

Try to keep it down to a low roar while we're gone so I can catch up when we return!

--Lynn

Have fun! Very jealous

ONLY 14 WEEKS UNTIL WE WILL BE JOINING THE DISNEY MAGIC !!!

:dance3::yay::dance3::yay::dance3::yay:
woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

YEAHAHAHAHAHAH!

It is SO easy to use, thats what I like about it.

pink.jpg

OK I love this camera!

If my mum and dad has already linked reservations does that mean when I log into my castaway cay account I can book excursions for them without having to log out my reservation and into theres?

I believe you can yes Lynne

By the way, I hope I didn't offend anyone by my enthusiastic showing of the England flag!? Wasn't intended...just some fun as I'm so excited to watch the World Cup! :thumbsup2:rolleyes1:guilty:

LOL! I would say yes but you didn't don't worry. At the Indian we went to on Saturday night they were showing the game so we sat watching it.

The food was lovely, I had no complaints at all. The quality of most of the food I ordered was fine. Sorry I didnt get any menus, didnt even think about asking for them. Just wish somone had said then I could have asked.

I am a big desert person, would rather go without a starter, than not have enough room for one :thumbsup2. What I did like on the desert menu, was that each night, one of the choices was a trio of 3 smaller portions, of the deserts listed.

We actually left for Barcelona 2 days early, as we were worried about the BA strikes and the ash cloud. So we had 2 days to explore. The Ramblas was fun, different and not what I imagined at all. It was nice to walk up and down. The Artists, painting and mime were brilliant. I was a bit suprised with animals being sold from stalls though.
Unless I completley missed an area, I was disapointed with the lack of shops.

The architecture on some of the buildings were fabulous, well worth seeing.
We had a DCl transfer, to the port on the Saturday and were taken on a mini tour of the city, where we actually saw things that we had missed, which was good.

Yes we were lucky, but we were only able to go due to the reduced prices. We had also been saving money due to giving up smoking so that is what we used.

Sara, I think I covered the food up above. Sorry no menus but I can say we enjoyed the food so much, that we both put on about 10lb each !!.

Thanks to all of you with the well wishes. Everything is going ok now.

Jan

Sounds like you had a fab time!

Gus and I were at the opening night of World of Color last night and loved it!!
We booked a dinner package at Ariel's Grotto for 7pm and saw the 10:15 show. The food was great and the reserved area for the show rocked!!!
In fact, I think we are gonna do this again in a few weeks but try the other place to eat instead.

Just a warning, you have to get a fastpass ticket for anything resembling a decent spot for this show! There is viewing from the other side of the pier but it's really not good! The projections are only on one side so you really can't see much from the backside. Anyhow, I would save yourself a lot of trouble and book the dining package but if you can't make sure you get there when the park opens to get your fastpass ticket asap!!! It was complete madness last night and many people were turned away from the main viewing area!

Anyway, here's a link to my photo's. They aren't great but it was a hard show to get good pic's of...

Oh that looks fantastic!

So now lens back, he says he cant mind if he took it or not,I was so sure it was there when he left, what a mess, I feel pretty sick now, anyway, away to try and put things right and move on.
I cant tell you how I wish I could rewind the morning.
thanks for listning, Lynne

Lynne I'm sorry that all this went on! Its never a nice situation and its difficult for you! Try and stay positive! I'm sure youll get through this and your relationship with your dn will be fine!

We have the 'Moonwalk' which is done at night and is for Breast Cancer. Not sure how long it is, but I guess it is a walk!!! Many ladies wear bras(on the outside;)), decorated or fancy for this one!!

We have this too! They are having a Disco warm up this year and champagne and bacon rolls at the finish!
