While pining away for pizza one day when I was going to school in St. Paul, MN, I got the idea that Gino's East on Superior St. was a very necessary thing to do. Hopped in the car, drove for about 7 hours (long time ago, I think that was the time frame) heading to Chicago for pizza.

I never did tell my parents about that one....nor the rector at the seminary....just as well I never continued in that line of study; lying, not a good thing.

LOL - that is dedication to the pie!

last year at work I convinced a bunch of people to go in on a pie order with me... We ordered 20 pies from Giordanos, next day delivery. They come par baked and frozen on dry ice...

I need to do this again - it was awesome!!!

Doesn't replace the hot, fresh out of the oven , gooey cheese but it is really good none the less...

Sarah - I cannot believe your doctor told you that!!! I am sending you hugs. Sometimes they just cannot relate to the "normal" person and do not think of what their actions and language can do to us.

If you are taking a survey :lmao::lmao:- I like NY Pizza over Chicago!!! But you are right, Pinnochio's is much better with the view!

Franck's Bridal Studio, built 15 years ago alongside Disney's Wedding Pavilion and named after the wedding planner character Martin Short played in the film "Father of The Bride," is undergoing a major enhancement. The Victorian summerhouse was created as a one-stop shop for couples to meet with a Disney wedding planner to review all the details for the big event. The studio showcases cakes, linens, floral, table settings and more. A highlight of the Franck's makeover involves online tools to assist with remote planning, including a Facebook application so couples can easily share details of their wedding with friends and family. The tools also allow guests to accept RSVPs and purchase tickets and room nights. Using Google Earth images and video, the Virtual Venue Tool brings wedding and reception venues at Disney to life with the click of a mouse. Two new planning rooms, additional computers and televisions, and newly designed furnishings round out the elegant setting of the new Franck's studio, slated to open mid-July.

Well, I was good: I walked/jogged .85 of a mile (mapped it out afterwards) and got all good and sweaty. Now I can watch tv tonight guilt-free!

I am walking a loop every day for 1 1/2 hours. Not sure of the exact distance but I get sweaty and feel good afterward!

ATTENTION ALL DANIEL TAXI MADERIA TOUR CRUISERS:

Just heard back from Daniel Taxi.

The only questions are I think that is still unanswered is if someone did not want to ride either the toboggan, would they have time to see the gardens?

I assume we ascend the cable car to Monte, then take the toboggan back to Funchal. Is that correct?

Also, if people are going back to the ship and not wine tasting will they have an opportunity along the way or in Porto Moniz to taste the honey cakes? I have emailed her for a response.

I have also addressed her question about posting in a PM to a DIS board moderator.

Anyone have any more questions or comments or want to change/add to itinerary?

Hello Noel,

Sorry I kept you waiting so long again, but now I’m all yours J.

Below this last e-mail, I copy-pasted your other e-mail from early this morning and I’m now answering both e-mails at the same time.

No problem about the e-mails you’re sending me. I’m very pleased to assist you and your group on whatever may be necessary, after all… this is my job and I do this all the time. In fact, it’s only with good communication, that we can provide a service as perfect as possible and that will meet our clients’ wishes and expectations.

Ok, so the big bus is definitely out. You have good points there and I surely agree.

Thank you for the link to the DISboards. I had a quick look already and I enjoyed it so much, especially as you make reference to us. And I was amazed at the huge number of pages you manage to have in a short space of time.

I’d love to take part in the DISboards’ chat, but I must know if I’m allowed to speak freely businesswise. Do you know what their rules say about this? I’m asking, because on Cruise Critic I’m not allowed to deal with any business matters at all, I’m not even allowed to recommend any local businesses. In case I can speak freely on the DISboards, I can answer your tour companions directly, as I could see some questions related to their tour with us.

Oh… and I loved to see you and your husband on your avatar!

Yes, even people with walking difficulties, have taken part in the our tours, so your guest will be ok. The lady can choose to stay in the van sometimes, but on the longer stops she’ll be able to get out and be with the others.

Now, the Porto Moniz volcanic pools. Yes, you’ll have time to view them, but if some people are really interested in having a swim, we worked out a plan to enable the group to spend more time in Porto Moniz and is, basically, to stop only on the best locations. So, we suggest the following:

· Cable Car and Toboggan rides.

· Câmara de Lobos – just passing by.

· Cabo Girão – a 20minute stop.

· Ribeira Brava – passing by only also.

· Encumeada – a short stop.

· From Paúl da Serra to Santa – a short stop for sightseeing along the way.

· Porto Moniz – you’ll be able to stay there for something like 1h30m to 1h45m. The people interested can stay in the pool for about 30 minutes, before lunch.

· São Vicente – a 30 minute stop.

· Finally, back to Funchal on the express way.

I don’t think you’ll feel rushed, either by following this plan or the one we have on the website, but it’s true that you can’t do it too leisurely.

Yes, these stops are for sightseeing and picture taking. For your shopping, Porto Moniz is good, I think you’re meaning souvenir shopping, right? You’ll have honey cake, our very own “Bolo de mel”, with your wine tasting at Blandy’s. This cake is made not with bees’ honey, but with sugar cane molasses.

Noel, I read on DISboards you commenting that, even though you prefer the small vans, you also liked the idea of having a guide, so maybe you’d like to know that the drivers of the smaller vans are driver/guides. In fact, these driver/guides are the same people that accompany the groups in the big buses.

Greetings to everybody

Eusébia.

I hate to sound like a broken record.....but has anybody heard anything from the following DISers recently?.....

We're here. I had to get a DIS board 101 class to learn how to reply. We are very excited about the trip!:woohoo:

OK - there isn't a Ginos - but here is a link to their locatons...
http://featuredfoods.com/cgi-local/...ml?L+scstore+kglq0905ginosff050205+1277264740

My favorite place for Chicago style pizza is actually Giordanos - and there is one of those in Gurnee! 7105 GRAND AVE. That is THE place to go! Be warned, bring a friend or 2, the small pie was too big for Stephen and I... One piece and some salad does me in...
http://www.giordanos.com/menu.html

YUMMY!!! You have me wanting pizza now...

Forgot to say that Goofys can't hold a candle to them - but the athmosphere at Goofys is MUCH better...

I'm staying on Grand Ave., so that will work!

Goofy's is great if you get the pizza bianca - I forget exactly what they call it - with lots of garlic!!! (I was born in Gilroy, CA, the "garlic capitol of the world" - I think it's in my blood. :woohoo: )

And let's not mention eye patches!!!

I'm going to regret saying that, huh :rotfl:

I can't cook. Tony might be disappointed.

Woody
:rotfl2:

The most frustrating thing is finding tours or things I can do. I can walk short distances. But the info on the Disney site is pathetic in helping me know what I may be able to do.

So we take cruises an only see the shops at port. Would love to see more.

Can you organise private tours? Maybe cheaper than DCL and you get to customise the tour to suit your needs? Just a thought....

I normally stay out of the laundry room but this last time I actually got to socialize with quite a few Diser's! So I think if we "plan" it right (do you all still want to do the 2/3 am laundry meet? - I will organize it - limited number of spots so everyone has a washer/dryer!) It was fun this last time!

Krisann
Krisann, Add me to the laundry meet! :thumbsup2 Hayley

I reckon if I lose a load of weight, all my new clothes will weigh much lighter!!!!! I can take more;) and still have lighter suitcases!!!

Ooh, that'a a plan! Now to lose the weight, yeah right :lmao:

As to loosing weight, I am working on that goal. I have hit a plateau so I must add more exercise to the regimen. Boy, going over the hill also seems to mean not so easy to drop those pounds gained with going into menopause!! Any tips for permanent weight loss??

I want the permanent weight loss tips too....please........anyone?

No ... it will be salads only in August and no desserts ( apart from the wedding I need to attend )

Good for you, where do you get your willpower from? Can I have some? :confused3

Sometimes I just want to sit around and watch TV all day eating chocolates or rich puddings!!!!!!

Sometimes, I want to do this ALL the time! :cool1:

Regretfully I am past where liposuction would work, I need the nip tuck!!!So, I will just opt to cover it all up!!! Oh and I'm thinking Spanx!!!
I just can't wear those spanx, I feel like a sausage. :rotfl:

I agree that the last few pounds we want to loose seem to take forever. I will be happy with whatever I can loose as DH seems to think I am still size 3 as those are the size of clothes he always brings me home from a trip. Ah....the eyes of love see what they want to see.

Just my thoughts...

That is so lovely! I wonder what size my DH see's me as, If I asked him he wouldn't answer. I say "Does my bum look big in this?", his usual reply is "I don't understand the question". :goodvibes

You guys are chatty, chatty!! I will have to catch up later, but I wanted to post of my excitement today and I thought of all of you. I took my dad to a little cafe in downtown Lakeland to get some frozen hot chocolate and a woman sits down next me with the big Dooney and Bourke DCL Cruise bag!! I screamed! She was laughing. She is leaving on the Wonder in July, but bought this one on the Med. She said they cannot keep them in stock long enough. There was a huge line to get them. It is beautiful and I was so excited to see one in person. I wanted to rush home and get on the boards!
:rotfl: Those bags are going to walk out of that store!

Black background with a cream swirly pattern!!!
Sounds pretty!

If it were up to my DH John to pack for the cruise, he would take a pair of shorts, two Hawaiian shirts, a pair of long trousers, a few pairs of underwear, a bathing suit, a tee shirt to wear with bathing suit and his sandals.

That's great, more packing room for you! :thumbsup2

I'm with you! Today I was told I was too fat by my doctor to be on one of my pills so have to change to another that one of the side effects (1 in 10 people get) is putting on weight!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously no one is helping me! I have a feeling that when they weighed me in Jan they got my weight wrong as they seem generally surprised I hadn't noticed a sudden increase in weight but I haven't put on that much! My Mother lovingly pointed out my butt has got bigger mind which I thought was a lovely response!

Where's the logic in that? Silly doctors!
As for mum's, I hear you, my mum has been know to lovingly call me 'Thunder Thighs'! :scared1:

I don't see the problem with spending large sums of money on a purse; so by all means ladies, buy them all, just make sure to do so before su_kraft boards the ship.

;)

PS, where is the hiding under my desk smillie?

Ooohhhh, Terry will have to teach you his mantra - Happy Wife, Happy Life! :lmao:

SOn of a gun! Sailing as a "vendor" doesn't count towards your CC count. Pam - were you aware of that?

What's a 'vendor'?

Working on the diet and excercise...I have 7lbs left..and some flab...to loose so I can fit formal gown no 1 lol! Now....where can I buy a corset like the one Keira wears in Pirates :rotfl2::rotfl::laughing: If I faint...please hide me from public eyes before you cut it open and let it all fall out :lmao:

Lyn
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

careful pal... No one gets between a woman and her purse... :rotfl2:

Decature isn't that far at all! I am hoping to be carrying off either the Tassle bag or the Medium tote... If Glenn isn't careful it could be both! LOL (not really... I would have a hard time spending that much...)

True! And her shoes!
I like the tassle bag, It's OK, I don't want one though, well until I see it maybe......

Yeah, moms can be like that. My mom used to call me the "Host*ss with the most *$$." Sweet, no? Oh, and another momism: when I had twins (back in prehistoric times), I opted to nurse them; she decided to call me "Dairy Queen." It's funny now, but at the time, not so much. Never one to hide her thoughts, my mom.

I like Dairy Queen, Will have to use that on my pregnant sister! :lmao:

I got a terrific corset for my honeymoon  from starkers.com. They are absolutely gorgeous works of art. I am half considering making a pirate costume around the one I got, and maybe a formal night dress out of mine (over a skirt, with a shawl). It actually doesn't show that much skin - but sucks me in good. I'm a big gal, and I love the hourglass shape it gives me.

I love corsets, never had one, but always think they look great on others! :thumbsup2

I know we have talked bras and undies - I was waiting for the spanx talk! I just got mine about 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it!! It sucks in everything. It is comfortable, but haven't tried it during dinner or even sitting down for that matter. My head might blow off:rotfl2::rotfl2:. For standing up and the "look" in the outfit, so worth it.

Greetings to everybody

Eusébia.

I'm really psyched about this tour. I would definitely like to swim in the volcanic pool. I love the fact that we'll still have a guided tour with the smaller vans. I can't wait!!

Eusébia.

Apparently the toboggan ride ends well before Funchal and that taxis try to tell you that it is a long way down and scam you for a ride. It is a 2 km walk (about a mile). I'm not sure where the tour bus would pick you up from?

By the way, is the group too full for 7 more? We are considering this option, too!

I know we have talked bras and undies - I was waiting for the spanx talk! I just got mine about 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it!! It sucks in everything. I have some Spanx knock-offs and they work well. Slim(mer) and trim(mer)!

Very doubtful... I would mmost likely brood about not getting one... And then blame DH as he encuraged everyone to get there first... :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Husbands are good for that!

Good for you!! :cool1::cool1:
I am walking a loop every day for 1 1/2 hours. Not sure of the exact distance but I get sweaty and feel good afterward!

That is terrific!! I will work up to that! I like the jogging part - although I'm not sure my neighbours do!

ATTENTION ALL DANIEL TAXI MADERIA TOUR CRUISERS:

Yes, but the toboggans actually end up in Livramento, about 2 km from Funchal.

Anyone have any more questions or comments or want to change/add to itinerary?

Where's the best place for poncha? (Since the itinerary below doesn't include time in Câmara de Lobos) :drinking1

Are there any viewers of "Deadliest Catch" from Discovery Channel on-board with me? Tonight's episode is going to be very difficult to watch. I just might have to recorded it and watch later.

Last week's episode was difficult to swallow too. When Jake told his dad he was an addict and then Phil told him he wanted him out of his life and to never see him again after they got back to port, you just couldn't help but think about those words from his pop. Imagine how Jake must have felt when he saw that fight air on television, months after his death. I hope the young man is on a road to recovery in honor of his dad's love for him. :sad1:

We watch this show! Although, we are a little behind so I won't see tonight's episode for a few weeks. So sad! Not looking forward to it.

 Speaking of husbands, anybody got poker fanatics on here? Is so, DH  poker and if there are others, maybe we can set something up for them one day. (And us girls can go "shopping" ?) DH loves to play poker and will regale anyone interested with his story of his final table escapade. Careful, I will take this time out to forewarn you that while DH is NOT a shark, he is extremely lucky.

Gus and I both love poker and he would be happy to play anytime!

Tera, you said SPANX! he he he he

Michael, I see your point but not your words, lol. Ps, we are flying together, PM me your seats if you want to.

Noel, I love the idea of being able to at least dip our toes in the volcano pool at the lunch stop!

Guess what finally came in the mail today????

My income tax refund check! Now I can pay off the credit card that I used to make the final payment on for the cruise! :yay::yay::yay:

I'm trying to figure out what to pack...for all of those who have done a TA before, would it be ok to wear capri pants or do you think I should bring long pants? Mind you, I don't get cold very often, I'm usually warm to hot all of the time. I know there is still time, but I figured I'd ask while I'm thinking about it. :)

OMG!!!! We just booked this cruise today and I'm OVERWHELMED with all the information and activities on this thread! :scared1: Is it too late to get in on all this...Is there a summary somewhere or someone who can help condense all 168 pages of stuff to know...Help!

Really looking forward to this cruise. We love Barcelona! Gibraltar and Madeira will be new ports for us.

We enjoyed Giordanos when the family met up at OKW in January 2009. I'm pretty sure it was the same family business. It was pretty tasty stuff!
