Well, I was good: I walked/jogged .85 of a mile (mapped it out afterwards) and got all good and sweaty. Now I can watch tv tonight guilt-free!

I invested $30 in a little pocket size pedometer. Has clock, step count, distance and calories burned. We have 2 huskies so they have to be walked everyday. We are usually gone anywhere from 35 min to 1 hour. Our circuits last from 1.45 miles to 2.35 miles depending on how good they have been. Bad as in they need some exercise or if I've skipped a day then I pay for it by walking for over an hour. Its amazing how much I've come to rely on that little thing. Its about the size of a matchbook but after making so much fun of me , DH has now started asking me for different routes and "how far have we come now?" So if you can, I would recommend buying one. There's a 10,000 step site on that other chat site many of us are on that gives interesting info on that. I walk a lot and the goal is 10,000 steps a day is good for the heart and to maintain weight loss. I've not come to the realization that I must increase this I do walk that much but apparantly its not enough. :rotfl:

I hate to sound like a broken record.....but has anybody heard anything from the following DISers recently?.....

We're here. I had to get a DIS board 101 class to learn how to reply. We are very excited about the trip!:woohoo:

:welcome: Best to just jump in and start posting. Once you get past 10 posts, you can PM (Private Message) and it will help you learn the ropes better. Good Luck!

I know we have talked bras and undies - I was waiting for the spanx talk! I just got mine about 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it!! It sucks in everything. It is comfortable, but haven't tried it during dinner or even sitting down for that matter. My head might blow off:rotfl2::rotfl2:. For standing up and the "look" in the outfit, so worth it.

Spanx! The topic of conversation on Saturday. My question was - "Does underwear need to be worn under them?" Inquiring minds want to know. :rotfl2: (Seriously, do you?) :)

Gus and I both love poker and he would be happy to play anytime!

Cool! On one of the WBPC's they set up a tournament style that was to host only about 20 people, but they ended up having over 30 people (guys and girls) show up. They ran it tournament style and was such a success that they even had a 2nd day which was more fun. If there's any interest in one, I can ask DH if he would be willing to do something like this. Don't hold me to it. I think the original group just held it on the Starboard side of the adult area. OOOPPPPPSsSSS....DH's is home, got to gear up the dogs as they are jumping and figure out a way to break the news gently to him if he'd be interested.

:wave2:

Goodness, I was talking to DH about OBC's for 2012 for the plat level and I clicked on the DCL site. I just saw the advantages. 120 day out booking, free dinner at Palo's and waiver of the $15 fee, free photo fun package and priority check-in at the concierge level. I might finally get to check in at the Concierge desk as I will NEVER sail in a Concierge suite if DH has anything to do with it. He likes the bat cave AKA inside cabins. WOO HOOO!!!!:cool1:

Sometimes, it the little things in life that make me happy. :cutie:

Krisann, Add me to the laundry meet! :thumbsup2 Hayley

I just can't wear those spanx, I feel like a sausage. :rotfl:

:thumbsup2

I missed the laundry meet post... Don't know how as we aren't very chatty... :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: OK, Im back to reality... Sign me up, middle of the night, I am guessing deck 7 - I hear that is the largest of the laundry rooms?

I haven't tried spanx as yet... But if it sucks everything in and is comfy I am all for it... Although we also have a "feel like a sausage" comment... Someone want to be the tie breaker?

OMG!!!! We just booked this cruise today and I'm OVERWHELMED with all the information and activities on this thread! :scared1: Is it too late to get in on all this...Is there a summary somewhere or someone who can help condense all 168 pages of stuff to know...Help!

Really looking forward to this cruise. We love Barcelona! Gibraltar and Madeira will be new ports for us.

Welcome!! Check out page 1 and 2 of this thread (there are 5 others, but all the happenings are on page 1 and 2).

we also have a website - www.transatlanticpirates.com - join the roll call and send a picture to photoa@transatlanticpirates.com.

We enjoyed Giordanos when the family met up at OKW in January 2009. I'm pretty sure it was the same family business. It was pretty tasty stuff!

Yep - same family.

Apparently the toboggan ride ends well before Funchal and that taxis try to tell you that it is a long way down and scam you for a ride. It is a 2 km walk (about a mile). I'm not sure where the tour bus would pick you up from?

By the way, is the group too full for 7 more? We are considering this option, too!

I have some Spanx knock-offs and they work well. Slim(mer) and trim(mer)!

Husbands are good for that!

That is terrific!! I will work up to that! I like the jogging part - although I'm not sure my neighbours do!

If you are interested, send me a PM with names and I will add you to the list. I am going to post a listing of those interested in the next few days to see if people who were have PM'd still want to do the tour.

If anyone was thinking about going to the Natural Science Museum (Zoological and Geological Museum). They are closed for renovations.

I guess I am back to planning.

Yes, but the toboggans actually end up in Livramento, about 2 km from Funchal.

Anyone have any more questions or comments or want to change/add to itinerary?

Where's the best place for poncha? (Since the itinerary below doesn't include time in Câmara de Lobos)

Now, the Porto Moniz volcanic pools. Yes, you’ll have time to view them, but if some people are really interested in having a swim, we worked out a plan to enable the group to spend more time in Porto Moniz and is, basically, to stop only on the best locations. So, we suggest the following:

· Cable Car and Toboggan rides.

· Câmara de Lobos – just passing by.

· Cabo Girão – a 20minute stop.

· Ribeira Brava – passing by only also.

· Encumeada – a short stop.

· From Paúl da Serra to Santa – a short stop for sightseeing along the way. Does this mean a drive along the ridge, with views to both the north and south?

· Porto Moniz – you’ll be able to stay there for something like 1h30m to 1h45m. The people interested can stay in the pool for about 30 minutes, before lunch.

Black Scabbard?

· São Vicente – a 30 minute stop.

· Finally, back to Funchal on the express way.

All good questions, Michael. I have sent them in email.

Welcome Andrea & Greg!! I am Noel and my DH is John. We are from Woodside, California and this is also our 4th DCL cruise.

We are a chatty bunch. As Sue told you in a previous post, there is a lot of information on the very first page of this thread. Sue also has a great website she mentioned which is the transatlanticpirates.com You can see pictures of many of the cruisers and sign up for any activities that are still open

I am organizing a private tour in Madeira. If you are interested or just want to chat about questions you have about things going on in the thread, send me a PM.

Formal night - the blue gown posted earlier is so beautiful. How many formal nights? I am going to recycle my formal night clothes as well.. I do not get a chance to use them on land so I enjoy wearing them at sea. Like a princess on a make believe voyage. DH does not mind wearing the same suit. I thought it was fair.

Laundry, has anyone thought of the new product out. Purex they are sheets. DH has already bought 2 packages and that is what is packed. Got to love that man. He knows me well. Cannot come home with more than 2 days of dirty laundry.

He has only been on 4 cruises and reminds me daily. I have been on 6. I guess I should remind him of his Marine and Navy cruises. Noh that is not the same as sailing with me!!

Welcome Andrea and Greg

Flights, BCN hotel, excursions/spa/Palo, packing, post cruise hotel. Breathe........

Have a wonderful time!! Talk to you when you get back

What is the "friends & family certificate?" Sounds like something my family will be bugging me about to book for them

When you book a cruise onboard, they will give you a F&F certificate that you can take with you off the ship and give to someone who didn't travel with you so they can book the same cruise and get the on board credit. (I think this is the case. I know they don't get both the OBC and discount, but I forget which it is.) They have to book within 30 days. Honestly, if I have friends or family who are committed to taking a disney cruise, I just book the cruise on their behalf while I'm on the ship so they get both discounts. This is easiest if they make a reservation directly with DCL before your cruise, then you don't have to deal with their credit card and personal information. You can have the cruise assigned to their travel agent after you rebook it if that's what they desire.

We have the Elite status on United. Our problem is our el cheapo Air Berlin flight with the one bag each limit or 150 euros per extra bag. I hate to pay that much for an extra bag!

Also have status on United, but we were lucky enough to book a Star Alliance flight on USAirways, which also exempts us from the baggage restrictions.

OMG! :scared1:

Glad I didn't miss this! ROTFL. Ok I've been out on Mars but does anyone know if the Fantasy will be doing 7+ days as opposed to the Dream? AND.....if I can book on this cruise......hoorah! I may be able to talk DH into booking for the OBC (yes I know not that much) but we are plat level now. Passed that about 6 or 7 cruises ago. :rolleyes1

The original assumption was that the Fantasy would take over the 7 night cruises, but recently people have been saying the opposite. DCL makes more money on the shorter cruises, and recognizes that there is a certain number of folks who cruise just to be on a new ship in the first year, so they may put the Fantasy on the shorter cruises and the Dream on the 7nt cruises. But I won't fret either way.

As to booking while onboard, I'd do it even if you don't have a cruise in mind, so you can keep the OBC and discount. However, there was a thread recently where someone said they were being told by DCL that they couldn't move a reservation and maintain the benefits. Anxiously waiting to see what came of that one.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but it is a certificate that allows the bearer to get the cruise fare discount even though they didn't sail with you. They are supposed to sail the same week as you - BUT I have read that you book it that way and then they can move the date... Oh - I don't think that they get the OBC with this, just the discount... And I am not sure how long they have to book...

As I posted above, I know they person using the F&F certificate gets either the OBC or the discount, but not both. I thought they got the OBC, but not the discount, since DCL is pretty consistent about being the only ones to give out discounts and only when you rebook onboard. Discounts can run much higher than the OBC anyway which is why I'm thinking it's the OBC they get, and not the discount.

Hi Neighbor!! Welcome aboard. Feel free to reach out for any questions that you have. Us NoVA folks need to stick together! The first threads have a wealth of summary info. Do you have your flight plans yet?

I think you also get a special tour or opportunity. Things like behind the scenes theatre tour and chance to ride the stage elevator or handle the costumes, or chance to see the behind the scenes parts of Castaway Cay.

Very comfortable. I buy mine 2 sizes bigger. Doesn't compress as tight but still provides lots of support. Very breathable and also doesn't make you feel like your going to rip them as you adjust the legs. One caution though. The seams sometimes will show up if your wearing a formfitting dress so beaware of that. Also, if bought a bit bigger, you can eat and still breathe. Good luck. They are addicting. ;)

Wow! I'm going to have to check into that more later this evening. Thanks!

BEFORE I FORGET........

Just wanted to post this little tidbit.....European hotels and apts do not normally have little wash clothes. If you are absolutely attached to using one, I would recommend you take one with you. You'll be safe onboard the ship but not in the hotels. They are sometimes hard to find unless you go to El Cortes Ingles.

OK - just wanted to post that for those that have never been....

Thanks - now you can return to your regular scheduled :happytv:
