I JUST GOT MY LUGGAGE!!!! I ordered the duffle, with Todd's suggestion, and my daughter said her formal dress will fit. YEAH!! We are packing, well, just to get an idea, but still having fun!

I done a bit of packing tonight, Ive kept my hand luggage mini case down from the loft, it was very exciting putting stuff in it.

European english is different then American english, and Scottish

That's also very different but we do our best to understand you.

That is just horrible! I cannot believe there would be people like that. I figure no matter who I sit with, I can make conversation and have a good time. I am just worried that the people I sit with won't want to talk and that would be awkward for all 2 weeks. I can always get seating changed, but then I would feel weird. We have to make sure this does not happen on The Magic - everybody on these boards WILL have a good time - no GREAT time!

Dutch so i don't think anybody speaks this. But we do understand english very good, but we must translate everything before we can say something back. And that takes time. And we're also a bit shy, but we like to hear other people speak about themself.

The concept of "American English" is kind of funny when you consider Southern drawl, California "valley," mid-West, New Yorker, etc. I understand Dutch better than I understand Bostonian!

sounds like all the different English accents and dialects we have over here too.....this will all be very interesting!

I don't like to make mistakes but i now we can better English then others can Dutch. Only on Sint Maarten they speak Dutch.

We should have a game of "telephone" with all the different versions of "English" on board. Statements get so mixed up when all the people are talking the same language. Just imagine how it would be when it is different "English"

I think you said it perfectly just how I feel about meeting new people. People who usually live in glass houses are the first to throw stones!!

I thought this way I wouldn't have to change the kids schedule so much. Anyways, I doubt anyone else with little kids will be at this dining. So, not sure if anyone would want to sit with us?

Hello everyone!
I'm happy to be back on the boards after a long while. DH and I are taking our 10th Disney cruise with you all. We were lucky enough to be on the last WB TA in 2007 and are looking forward to this one even more so. We'll be taking it to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary which is actually August 3. We're staying at the Hilton Diagonal Mar Friday night and hope to see some of you there. We had to book it on our own because Disney's portion was sold out. It actually turned out for the best because we're using DH's Hilton points for the room. I'll do my best to catch up on the thread but am happy to be connected with you from this point on!

My grandmother and mother immigrated from Glasgow in 1921. My mother was only 7 so she became very Americanized except for a few words. But my grandmother never lost her "Scottish" so talking with you will bring back fond memories. I am looking forward to meeting you.

Good thinking! The time zone change from MDT to CEST is a bigger factor with kiddos, no doubt. So with late seating (while we're still in Europe anyways), for US Mountain Time residents, it will be like noon to their little bodies!

We have always enjoyed our table mates, still talk to all of them, send cards, shared some laughs, but the first few nights are always so uncomfortable. If anybody is at the early seating and wants to sit together, let me know. It is my DD (13) Goofy Granny and I! We are not scary, we like to have fun and laugh and if we tell you that we will not be at dinner, PLEASE do not take it personally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We love to talk...especially Dennis! I had to gently take him by the arm at the VA Hospital this morning and remind him that the doc has work to do.

That's the only thing where i'm having a problem, sitting whit strangers on a table. Because last time we had a family that was not that nice. We can speak english but we must think what we going to say back to our tablemates. So that takes time and they didn't understand that i think.

So your not the only couple how has problems whit that, and you can speak English.

Yes I hear that for sure. Part of the reason Jason and I get very nervous about seating with strangers is that on our first Disney cruise together (which was Jason's first cruise ever and my second cruise, but first on DCL), we got seated with two other couples without children----and somehow we got so "lucky" that we got seated with not one, but TWO couples who both had an obvious problem with be seating with a couple that was two men. One of those couples never came back to dinner after the first night. We aren't sure if they asked to switch seating or just ate on deck to avoid us. The other couple did come to dinner every night except their Palo night but they basically ignored us and made it clear they didn't want us to talk to them either-----so that was very uncomfortable for 4 nights and left us a little gunshy. On our next DCL cruise...we did get lucky and got seated with an amazing older couple who happened to have an adult son who also had a male partner so we got along with them great....and every cruise we've been on since then we've traveled with friends and/or family and been able to "stack" our tables!!

Jason and I would definitely not mind linking up with folks who have late dining if we felt certain we were going to be eating with folks who were friendly and comfortable and nice----and if we were able to link with people who are also doing the B2B (like we are) that would even be a bonus!!

Don't be so sure...you'll be surprised at how many kids there are in late dining. I think lots of parents find their kids enjoy the show better when they can go to the early show BEFORE dinner rather than trying to go to the late one after dinner when they may be more tired and stuff.

I look forward to meeting you. While I was stationed in Germany, we went to "Niederlande" (Netherlands) Sprechen Sie deutsch (Do you speak German)? Zo niet, wij zullen ons best doen om te leren uw taal. Wij willen graag te leren over uw cultuur ook (If not, we will do our best to learn your language. We would like to learn about your culture also). My ex-sister in law is danish as well so I think we may feel at home with you guys.

Erik - My take on your story about your tablemates on your first DCL cruise is that those people missed out on a chance to meet two fascinating people and some excellent conversation. Whoever you link up with will be one lucky group of cruisers!

I'm so sorry. That's a terrible shame that people can't look at people as...well...human beings. I just can't understand how one cannot make an attempt to put aside their opinions and come to the common ground that we're all there to enjoy during a 1.5 hour period of eating. They really missed out because you and Jason are great people who give so much of yourselves to help others in the real world, not to mention the DIS world!
