I just checked on mine and here's the weird part... mine is $378.00 and if I booked today I would pay $427.04 It went up !
Looks like I just might have to call DCL tomorrow:confused3

Ann:teacher:

Okay, just checked my vacation protection plan - I booked last week and the total for my DD and I was $171.00 through Disney.

OK guys....anyone who has taken the Disney insurance this is for you....we booked our cruise in 2008 and the insurance for my DW and I was almost $400.00. Checked last night to see if the price of the cruise had changed....we payed the cruise off in February.....the insurance had gone down. I called DCL today and they stated that since I had payed the cruise off the could not make any adjustments unless I cancel and rebook and that would mean losing our onboard credit. Anyway, I explained that I thought that since we still had time before the cruise went into the penalty phase, we should be able to make changes....After a while on hold, they came back with the change without any problems. Our insurance went from $388 to $158 for both of us. The coverage is still the same and we saved $230.00--significant money. My advice....check your insurance and call if you paid more. More money for us to spend on the ship!
Tom:cool1:

I have been in travel insurance hell for the past few days so I can chime in on this one. I originally had the DCL insurance, then took it off when I was going to buy insurance separately after booking our flights outside of DCL. I recently learned that the DCL insurance has a sort of "cancel for any reason" clause where if you have a claim that isn't covered, you can still get a credit for money paid to DCL (less the insurance cost) toward a future cruise. I hadn't realized that before! My mom has been in and out of the hospital recently which made me concerned that we may end up having to cancel at some point, which wouldn't be covered since it's a preexisting condition. So I tried to add the DCL insurance back to my reservation.

I'd seen from the DCL site that the insurance costs had gone down. It was previously $576 for our family of 4, and was now showing up at just over $300. I also knew we weren't at the PIF date yet so didn't think it would be a problem, though we had recently paid the remaining balance due on our account. At first my TA was told that we could add the insurance, but that we would have to pay the $576 versus the $300 something, since the insurance calculation had changed April 27th and we'd booked before that. Then, when she went to add the insurance, she was told that we couldn't add it because we had PIF and we couldn't add anything after we'd PIF.

It got resolved yesterday, but unfortunately I ended up having to switch some reservations around which meant we lost the $100/pp OBC and had to pay a few extra dollars in cruise fare since the cost had risen slightly. As much as I hate that, I do feel better about having the insurance to protect the larger cruise cost, and take responsibility for it on two fronts since 1) my TA advised me against dropping the insurance when I first asked them to do so, and 2) since I PIF before the PIF date.

My TA said that on April 27, DCL started charging insurance at 8% of the cruise fare, rather than on a flat rate based on the number of people covered. Works out well on cheaper cruises, not so good on more expensive ones.

So sorry to hear about your grandmother. Love to you and your family.

Hope all the revision and exams go well.

As someone said earlier, we won't post anything till you are back!!!

HallsofVA....when I called yesterday and spoke to cast member at DCL, she origionally told me we would have to cancel and rebook, thus losing our onboard credit for booking onboard. We only have a $200. obc, but I thought that that was wrong since we were not in the penalty period yet. I paid early, yes, PIF before I needed to. She spoke with 2 supervisors, one said it would have to be canceled and rebooked, and another saying that they would just make the adjustment on the insurance, thus the $230.00 credit to my credit card. If I were you, and this is my opinion completely, I would call your travel agent and get them to work on this for you. You are not in a penalty period yet, so they should have worked with you. Give it a try....all it is is a phone call or e-mail. The money is better in your pocket(since you have already paid it) then in theirs.

The insurance cost is now based on cost of the cruise, not a flat per person cost. Are you in a higher category, or is it that the single person supplement has driven up the cost of your insurance?

I started to do that, but I think the difference is that you had already paid for the insurance, while I was trying to add it on. Their policy clearly says that they don't take any insurance payments once a cruise is paid in full, even though I argued that we weren't at the PIF date yet. I can still mention it, but at this stage since we've already changed everything around, I don't know how much progress we'll make.

sorry to hear your news Sarah, best wishes to you and your family xx

Could I ask a massive favour of all you lovely people please? I know you don't really know us yet but I do hope we'll get to be friends. My darling daughter needs lots of positive thoughts and prayers right now and anyone has some to spare I'd be grateful.
She suffers terribly from chronic depression (since she was 14) and has just been in hospital again...I won't go into too many details, but she is a lovely bright girl and this is worrying me sick.

Any prayers would be wonderful thank you xx

UKANGEL, I will pray for your darling daughter. Keep us posted.
