Your table looks wonderful ... not quite sure what Cinco de Mayo represents though or what it is you are celebrating but it looks Mexican themed.

We are not Hispanic but it is a holiday that is celebrated widely here in California. For those who want to be in the know:

From Wikipedia:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a holiday held on May 5 that commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.

According to a paper published by the UCLA Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture about the origin of the observance of Cinco de Mayo in the United States, the modern American focus on that day first started in California in the 1860s in response to the resistance to French rule in Mexico.[16] The 2007 paper notes that "The holiday, which has been celebrated in California continuously since 1863, is virtually ignored in Mexico."

The date is perhaps best recognized in the United States as a date to celebrate the culture and experiences of Americans of Mexican ancestry, much as St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest, and the Chinese New Year are used to celebrate those of Irish, German, and Chinese ancestry respectively. Commercial interests in the United States have capitalized on the celebration, advertising Mexican products and services, with an emphasis on beverages, food and music.

Thank you for the welcome!

I have logged into the transatlantic pirates website and my computer is telling me that it is down - is anybody else having this problem?

Tonight I am having dinner at Old Key West with Ann and Albert so they will fill me in on everything that I missed. :thumbsup2

I am able to hit it... try from this link:

I could have misspelled it before!

Hi Everybody! I haven't been on the boards because we cancelled the trip back in January, but we rebooked and so excited! It is just my DD (13) and I. My DH couldn't get that much time off, that is why we originally cancelled but we decided just the two of us will go because we were so excited to read about the EB TA. I love the Cinco de Mayo table and Becca's outfit and beyond that I have not read, but I am sure a lot is happening.

We have our travel through Disney so we do not arrive in Barcelona until Saturday morning. I would like to be on the FE list again, but if that is too late, I understand. I am going to go back to Page 1 and read the first thread with all the info. I look forward to meeting everyone!!!!:banana:

Welcome back!! I have a GD that is your DD's age. I wish she could get the time off from school to come on this cruise but no such luck!!

Working in the restaurant biz when I was much younger, we always referred to Cinco de Mayo as the American Mexican holiday!

I home school so it makes it very easy. We are getting this trip in for 8th grade because she will be going to high school the following year - that is when I will cry. When I cannot take her on wonderful trips like this. I actually think kids get more out of trips like this then school anyway, but try telling administrators that one :rotfl:

Thanks for the info .... it sounds like a great celebration. We should adopt it here in the UK as I love Mexican food, drink and music :thumbsup2

Welcome back!!!! It's really getting close to the cruise! :)

I'm spending the day with my hubby since he took the day off of work after his late night seeing the midnight showing of Ironman 2. We're going for a late lunch soon and then who knows after that!

Hey all

Took a day off from the forums to watch the election!! but now i'm back.

Sue your costumes look great, saddly i know there won't be any room in my suitcase for fancy dress, maybe i'll bring an eye patch for pirate night!

With all this talk of price drops on the Med cruises maybe we'll all get lucky and get a price drop too!

What are the chances of that i wonder ???

SW

are you flying around Europe any? many of those airlines do not allow a personal bag and a carry on! We found out the hard way - also they weigh your carry on - just an FYI - check the details out closely

Krisann
Some of them are super strict.

Hi, glad to have you backon board.
I should have the lanyards in my hands by mid-June, end of June at the latest. Shipping them might be a possibility....but I had the same concerns about customs, delivery, etc. I am definitely going to have to do some research and explore options, though.

Hmmm....yeah I do def. see the logic there.....however even 326 will be a lot of extras for this group...that's over 100 extras because right now there are only 216 names on the lanyard list and I am 99% sure that at least 10 of those are people who don't actually want/need lanyards anymore...so I think we're right around the 200 mark at this point-----so ordering 500 lanyards would just be a ridiculous number of extras I think! :lmao: I was thinking of buying like 50 extras so I'd have some to give last minute joiners....so I was shooting for getting somewhere between 250 and 275 lanyards total depending on where my final count ends up in the next several days.

Not to mention the extra wt!

Sorry - just sharing our expeirence on the EBTA - and had no idea on how many on here - yes that would be many left over with only 200 and it is not even close to the break even number - we had 353 total so it made sense to order the extra and pay the lessor amount for more lanyards. we ended up with about 100 left over but everyone on the lanyard team took 5 extra so they were gone and handed out all over the ship to CM's. We never dreamed we would get to that number! when they dropped the prices for the cruise our numbers increased.

Sorry not meaning to be a troublemaker.

I wrote on the EB Transatlantic website about lunch deck parties, but the person did not know because she avoided the food :sad1: so Krisann - did they have afternoon deck parties with a lunch buffet and games? We really enjoyed them on the '07 repo. They also had an afternoon chocolate fountain that I am still dreaming about. They said to ask someone else that was on the EB so I thought you would be a great source since it seems like you didn't miss anything that was fun!!!

Hi everyone, just trying to catch up with you chatty people after a week off the boards. My dd has been in hospital and we've had a pretty dreadful time (as some of you know) so the cruise has been all that's kept us going!:rolleyes1

A couple of quick questions....

The tasters.......could Mark and I do the wine & martini tasters please? And MArk would like to do the beer one too, thanks:thumbsup2

Does anyone staying at The Renaissance (Airport) have an email address for them please? Trying to arrange the shuttle .....

Have a good weekend everyone...here's hoping for sunnier skies :littleangel:

PIF with a cherry!

the cherry part was a surprise to me.
I wanted to pay off the cruise several weeks ago, DH kept saying no... not yet.
I found out yesterday that we have been on a waitlist for the Maridian(sp) Hotel for the day befor the cruise. We were notified we got a room!
A cruise was the sundae. the whipped cream was doing the TA, and now an extra in Barcelona is the cherry on top!:banana::banana:

Ann :cheer2:

YAY Ann....well we are both PIF so I guess that means we will actually get to meet each other this year!!! I paid mine off a couple hours ago. :goodvibes

Congrats to the two of you.

I waited to join this cruise meet thread until we were PIF which happened today. We signed up for this cruise way back on opening day Oct. 2008, but didn't want to jinx anything by writing about it too soon. On this cruise it will be myself, DH, DD-13, DD-9. We are beyond excited to take this trip. My DH and I have travelled before, but we have never done anything like this as a family. See you in Barcelona!

Welcome...better late than never and congrats for your PIF.:yay:
