You reminded me that DH and I did a "dry run" test on a carrot soup this weekend that had a half parsnip it. The best part was the topper of orange Crème fraiche that I made. It was a hit!!

Oh sounds very yummy!

Thank you for your kind words. Sadly, Snoopy passed away overnight. :( I'm going to miss her so much, but at least she isn't suffering anymore. Remy is really confused (she's not sleeping in her normal place) so we're going to give Remy some TLC when she wakes up.

My mom had knee surgery last week and we found out yesterday that she has a small blood clot in her calf so she was in the hospital overnight. She's home now but she has to give herself injections for 10 days and be on blood thinners for 6 months. I'm not feeling all that well, so it's been quite a few days.

Here is a picture of Remy and Snoopy - Snoopy is on the right.

Sending you even more hugs! As you said at least she's not suffering. Remy will get used to it you just need to keep giving her hugs! They are both so beautiful!

Also hope your mum feels better soon!

So sorry to here about Snoopy. I hope Remy does not get too lonely. You lost a pet he lost his Mother. So time to spoil Remy :) with lots and lots of hugs :)

I hope you Mom gets better soon. That is a long haul to recover.

Feel better soon

I am also very selective as I only eat chicken or fish and I also have a tomato phobia which limits sauces etc. There is generally only one item on thr appetisers and entrees menu which I like, so it makes choosing easy :rotfl: . I am less selective with desserts unfortunately. Sarah ... I think you need to expand on your "weird potato thing" :rotfl:

I wish Welsh things were a bit more exciting. I can't imagine anyone being impressed by bara brith
:

Hey Lava bread Im sure would go down a treat lol

As for the potato thing I guess I opened myself up to this one. Basically most potato accompliments I have issues with like 99% of the time.

Wont eat - Boiled potatoes, Potato Layonnaise, Proper Mashed Potato, Baked Potatoes not cooked in an oven, Fat chips that aren't mega crispy, Fried Potatoes unless very thin and crispy, New Potatos, Dophinous Potatoes and basically any Potato Bake

Will eat - French Fries (mind if I find one that isn't cooked properly these also get tossed or if they are seasoned in any way!), Mr Smash mash potato (and yes I can tell the difference even when restaurants use potato ricers), Potato Waffles, Potato Croquets, Oven cooked baked potatoes (although if out I wont as most of these aren't cooked long enough) and my beloved Roast Potatoes

I know its weird but I just really find potatoes hard to eat. When we go to TGI Fridays and I have so many issues! Last time I ordered the steak I ordered the mash and the fries as my sides as wasn't sure which I'd eat and ended up eating neither.

I have no idea where my weird potato thing has come from as I don't think its related to anything growing up. Everyone else in the family eats potatoes normally. I've been trying my hardest to get out of it too as Dan loves potato bakes etc but I just end up eating the sauce and leaving the potatoes. I still haven't found any ready made potatoes other than waffles and croquets that Ill eat (and sometimes they go out too if not really over cooked!)

I'm a freak I know it! Tend to just push the potato around the plate so it looks a bit like I've eaten it in restaurants and then no one gets upset, or I give it to Dan! Especially in the UK - asking for a substitute is just not normal. We went to the Yachtsman Steakhouse in WDW in 2008 and I asked to substitute potato for spinach and you would have thought I was mad! The server tried offering me different potatos and it was very embarressing - although I'm sure she was trying to be kind.

awwwww bless. Mind you, my step-daughter is really freaky with chips .. she will only eat ones with flat square ends, but can't eat them if they have pointy spiky ends ... go figure :confused3:confused3

See now to some extent I can understand that as the spiky ones might have been eaten by mice somewhere along the way

I am not big on mashed potatoes. The only way I will eat them is if I put salad dressing on top. I don't eat baked potatoes either and will ask for tomatoes as a substitute. French fries, hash browns or any other kind of cooked potatoes leaves me cold.

The only way I really like potatoes is in my grandmother's lemon dressing potato salad which I make every Easter. I think I just really like the dressing more than anything.

Now potato chips is a whole different issue. I have given them up for weight loss reasons but I love them!!

What do you do on the Belly Fat Cure diet? That is definitely one of my problem areas.

The basic premise is not sugar of any kind, including artificial sweetners, fruits and some veggies. Sugars cause your insulin to spike making you think you are hungry, and all of it is stored in your belly. A banana has 11 grams of sugar in it! :scared1: It has been pretty filling and satisfying. An example is, 3 eggs for breakfast with a piece of whole grain toast with butter, lunch is one piece of whole wheat bread or whole wheat tortilla with turkey and cheese, dinner is meat/fish with1/4 cup of past broccoli and spinach salad with olive oil. I have lost 3 inches off my waist and 3 off my hips. So I guess it does cover the bottom also!:lmao:

Belle, sorry to hear about Snoopy. It is always hard loosing a pet.

We are going away for about a week for spring break. I am a little scared about leaving this board. You all move fast!:cheer2:

LOL definately with you on this one! We can't have them in the house as I will just eat them all when Im bored! Glad Im not the only one who has issues with potatoes!

Don't worry well catch you up when you get back!

Love the sound of your diet! That's pretty much what I tend to eat as it is! Thinking I need to cut Carbs as well as sugar. Too much bread!

When I am trying to lose weight I just reduce my calorie intake to about 1400per day. I reduce fat intake but I know I still eat too much sugar, as I eat a lot of fruit, plus breakfast cereal and cereal bars which are low fat but heavy on the sugar. I also try and exercise more. I have lost weight this way but it tends to be slow progress and it finds it's way back on a lot quicker if I stop doing it
That belly fat cure makes sense, but I would struggle to lose the fruit.

I am having issues giving up my fruit also, and most of my veggies but I am so happy I am loosing (FINALLY) and feeling great. I'll add them back soon. But I can have potatoes, but I also have potatoe issues!:lmao:

Gizmo, there is lots of hidden sugar in foods. It was amazing to me when I started reading the food lables.

I also really like the Jillian Michael's 30 day shred workout. Gave up Wii Fit.

Good luck no matter what you are doing. YOU CAN DO IT!!! :cheer2::cheer2: (We will do a cheers with chocolate souffles on the cruise. I think after all of our hard work it will be well deserved)

What about the friday at sea????? around 4 pm???????

Answers on the back of a postcard girls and boys, ladies and gentlemen.

I'm going to jump in and say I think thats a good option as its the second day in the big block of sea days. When we did it it took around 2-3 hours to get around every room so you may want to make it a little earlier say 3pm just incase its formal night or anything.

A sea day would be great! But we are flexible so we're ok with whatever works best for the most people. Also, 3pm works for us!

Thank you for your kind words. Sadly, Snoopy passed away overnight. :( I'm going to miss her so much, but at least she isn't suffering anymore. Remy is really confused (she's not sleeping in her normal place) so we're going to give Remy some TLC when she wakes up.

Awww, so sorry to hear about Snoopy. They sure are cute! When I was in high school one of my teachers offered us extra credit if we brought in a mouse to feed his in class snake. Well, I ended up keeping him and naming him Mickey, of course!! I was so proud of myself for saving him and then about a week later my grandma accidently stepped on him while he was out of his house enjoying free time.

Also, for those of you selective eaters...Hi, my name is Chasity and I too am a selective eater. :rotfl: I don't like tomatoes, onions, mustard, mushrooms, avocado, olives and many other things that might taint a meal so I always have to customize my dinner to not include any of those. It's usually not a big deal and I ask really nicely but I always feel like a food diva. lol.

As for having to drag spouses to events...Gus is a ham so he loves to be in groups and meeting new people. Hence why he loves Magic so much. Ironically, I am the shy and quiet one but I do all the Dising and organizing. I'm the one that usually sits back and takes everything in. The funny part is I end up knowing more about people quicker since I've had the chance to notice different things, including putting faces with names! Gus is pretty bad at remembering who's who so don't be offended if he can't remember your name after the 5th time. ;)

Hey there.

With DH's continued unemployment (coupled with his insistance on private vs public school for our DS) we're looking on areas where we can cut down expenses, and this cruise is currently on the top of the list to cut. We haven't actually canceled it yet, but it isn't looking good at the moment. It will be a major bummer if we aren't able to go, since we've already bought the transatlantic airfare ($1600 total) and would be giving up the extra $100/pp ($400 total) OBC. Plus, I've always, always wanted to do a transatlantic cruise, and we thought it would be much easier to go now, than when the kids are older and missing more important school periods. But I guess there may be a transatlantic cruise in 2012 that we could consider!

If we do end up canceling, I may keep an eye out for any discounts for booking after the PIF date in case it greatly lowers our cost (since we already have the air which is usually the big deterrent to the last minute bookings.)

Anyway, I'll keep you posted as we look at our options.

I can't recognize my neighbors if they're not surrounded by their backyards.

I can walk right pass a person that I was in deep converation with a few minutes prior and not know them. And then I will give someone the furrowed brow and try desperatly to place them... the grocery clerk or bank teller.

Or my neighbor :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::blush::blush::blush:

Noel, I absolutely agree with your thoughts! We have met so many really nice people on DCL. Some are friends for just a bit, some have become lifelong friends, one has become our Disney Daughter. :lovestruc We too are empty nesters that love having children around. We saw one of our friends throw a dilly of a fit on CC one cruise. In several cruises this was the only fit we saw her throw, but it was a fine one! :worship: Made us smile and remember those meltdown days of our own children. :)

Soiunds like you are primed and ready to meet our daughter who just turned 6. She has been known, on occasion, to throw a realllllly good fit... Hopefully you will be sadly disappointed, and she won't on this trip... :)

My husband isn't too keen on organised events and likes to go with the flow, particularly till he gets to know people. Being scheduled or being 'encouraged' to be part of a group is his idea of a nightmare. I went along to a few things and enjoyed what I did.

I agree, being scheduled on vacation is not my husbands idea of fun. But...he does what he's told! :rotfl:

Yes, John is happy to help with the FE.
We sound so unsociable don't we?:rotfl2:

Oh, My DH is very excited about the Candy/Choc swap! And is even throwing around ideas for the FE.
No, you don't sound unsociable at all!:goodvibes

Don't think you have to worry about that. I am sure there are some adults on the cruise that will act up before the kids do :goodvibes

My DH may just be one of them, he is a big kid! When he is having fun and doesn't want to leave somewhere he puts his imaginary "concrete boots" on and tells he he can't leave!:confused3

There are several things that you can drop by and participate in if you feel like it without committing to participate. The 3 pm meet first day is one and is a good chance to see if meets are going to be a "fit" for you and your family. That also is a great opportunity to put faces with all these names, which creates the "howdys" in the hallways as we pass each other. :cool1:The Geezer meets are also just show up if you want, the group photo also. Just look thru the planned events and come if you want.

Oh, Thank-you so much for saying that! I wanted to ask if it would be OK to drop by to some things even though I hadn't committed, but wasn't sure of the protocol. That would be fantastic!

I think everyone should participate in their comfort zone. Even though we are empty nesters, we don't mind having kids around but also like time alone as just DH and myself. I think there is more than enough time on the cruise to strike a happy balance for meeting people and having time together.
Just my thoughts....

I don't get alot of time alone with my DH, so will also cherish every moment the kids are at kids club! Fingers crossed they love it, they are both pretty sociable, but the youngest can get clingy if she's not comfortable.

I hope you don't see my youngest throw one! SHe doesn't do it very often, actually we haven't had one for months now, but being out of routine, tired, over stimulated and eating waaayyyy too much sugar is a good recipe for one! She puts on a good show though!;)

I have a gorgeous family friend who has a beautiful figure, she never exercises, but her mantra is - Sugar is the enemy!
I just may have to try this one, sounds like a good time for me to start, going in to winter. I couldn't do it during summer with all the yummy fruit here! So, fats ok, sugars bad!

For all of you with the potatoe issues, I WISH I had a potatoe phobia! I'll eat them any which way, preferably smothered in butter, sour cream or aolii! Do you think that might contribute to the bottom fat?:lmao:

My kids were always really social so that is one worry I never had. In the old days there weren't as many activities for kids but kids always found something to do.

As for my GK's, I know they never, ever wanted to leave the kids clubs, especially my GS as he met a friend who loved sports and video games as much he does. Both GD's met girls their own age and wanted to be with them 24/7.

I can remember the a cruise with our youngest DD when she was about 2 when she went to the kids area on the Big Red Boat for the first time. DH and I were so thrilled just to have a few hours by ourselves. What did we do? We took a long, leisurely nap!! I remember just having the time to relax and nap meant more to us than a night on the town.

I can do the early dining group. Just PM your names to me if you want to sit as part of a large group early dining. I will NOT do anything with it until after all have been able to book Palo, excursions, spa, which is, I think, 45 days prior to cruise. I can then send the info to DCL dining and get us all seated in the same area.
DH and I would like to join other early dining Dissers. If you need any help, I can help you with the early dining group. Just let me know.
