Welcome aboard! We are also traveling w/Disney. We decided that it was the safest thing to do to avoid problems w/transfers, flights, etc. (We've heard a lot of horror stories about delayed flights, missed transfers, etc. when overseas.) Be sure to check out page 1 of the thread for great info.

BTW, who's traveling and what are your names?

I am Cheryl (31) and my DH name is David (30) We live in Seattle. David works for a large software company and I am a CDP-T. We have no children!
We do have a toy and a mini red male poodle. Yes that is more info than you requested;) All well!:lmao:

Howdy Cheryl,

I am Kathy and DH is Greg.

We are in Oregon, so not too far from you guys:thumbsup2

We book our air through Disney too but no hotel. I just feel better doing air through them in case of delays and such that can come up.
Looking forward to getting aquainted with you.

Hey, add me to the group that hates to fly too!! Just flying from Oregon to Florida last week about killed my back:sad2: I think I will check out how much extra for 1st class seats? Maybe I can save extra for them, just for the long flight to get there. If we have a layover, then a short flight to the final airport I can do that in a hard seat. I just cant imagine all those hours in a regular seat.
Anybody ever try those blow up neck pillows? Do they help?

Kathy

Did I miss something , when did DCL start having Photopass :confused3 :confused3 ?????

pirate:

On 11/15 Magic, they had a coule of kiosks outside of shutters, and downstairs from shutters. It was operational, but I think it has a long way to go. One thing that was annoying is that the photo's were tied to a single KTTW card, not all for one stateroom. We started with DW's card, so we had to keep remembering to make sure we had it and used it to keep all the photo's on one card. They only swiped the card for the family type photos. All of the character and dining photos were "as before", and posted in Shutters. The kiosks were also slow and non-responsive at times.

To all who gave such helpful advise. We changed our Ressie to the WB Transatlantic today. We also booked a really expensive hotel through disney for the night before called the AB Skipper. The Hotel rec'd great reviews! I will be checking for a cheaper rate nextyear, but wanted to have a back up plan!

Is anyone flying with Disney?

Welcome!!! We have one night at Le Meridien through Disney (very pricey). I checked on the website but it only lets you book 550 days out, and we're not quite there yet. I checked for Sept 2009, and got a rate for about $350 less than Disney, but that doesn't mean it will necessarily hold true for another year out.

We also booked through Disney for air travel, but will absolutely check airfare myself, and drop the Disney air travel if I find a good deal.

Alex

Hi, managed to to put us on the map, think I mistakenly managed to move Port Canaveral a bit but I think someone has noticed and put it back, thank you. Not much of a computer wizard Im afraid. :confused3
Dont have much in way of holiday traditions, just take it as it comes. Had to work a lot of holidays when first married ( power stations, no stopping for Santa there :santa: ) so now just happy to be home. Been to WDW in Dec for 7 times so I guess that was in danger of becoming a tradition, but will be there in Sept next year then its the cruise so it will be 2011 before we get to go back in Dec.
Came in from work today and found DW had started putting up the decorations " just for the grandchildren" so I guess the tree will be up this week end. Lots of Disney things to bring out :goodvibes
Not a bad traditon
Snow and christmas decorations at Castaway Cay, doesn't really work for me.

So I have a TA question for those who have done it before. I love CC but wonder just how depressing it is to get there on a TA, cruise more or less over. Sorry negative thought as a result of boredom at work.

Incidentally favorite character Elizabeth Swann, admittedly not because of the character but the actress who plays her
I know what you mean about CC, but the way I look at it is at least it is something to look forward to at the end, rather than just dreading the end of the cruise. Also have to admit, elizabeth is hot! so I am sure your wife will forgive you!

Has anyone else been pacing the floor wanting to book air and hotel now- just to get it over with?

Thank You all again :cloud9:
:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: yeah, we have both directions booked but we were chatting last night, going to cancel other way just so we can go all out planning,,although we have known that we are going to do this direction for a while now, all those 25 hour days are just tooo appealing

We are the gifts on "Christmas morning family" but we always got to open 1 each on Christmas Eve. It was always pajamas. My mom did that so we would look good and having on matching pjs in the pictures on Christmas morning.

Ah bless, I was going to post something but just minded hubby will read this.Dont you just love those xmas 6am piccys?

Talking of hubby, he is off tom, we are going xmas shopping:sad2: ,not good, but it will be easier with him for support,:scared:

Have a great day.

It was depressing! I hated our CC day and spent most of the day sulking on the boat but I think I have that issue on every holiday on the last day! Packing was terrible!

Its just occured to me DW will read this, so love you much more DW XXXX

Nice recovery!

Thank You all again :cloud9:

I think you've made an excellent choice! I am well and truely pacing the floor! Dan (DB whose welshwizurd on here - doesn't post much mind) thinks Ive gone insane as I can't stop trying to organise stuff lol!

We haven't booked flights through Disney as we can't because we're not in the US.

we should also book 2 days. We would love more time to explore Spain! WI am wondering if we can set up our own tours the day we embark.... or would Disney require us to stay on the ship until they have completed the infamous "drill".:confused3

I'm not sure on this one as you are meant to be there for the drill. Last time they had a night in the port so that people could do tours if they wanted to but this time they don't.

We put our stuff on the ship the first day in Barcelona and left, missing the muster drill. We LOOOOOOVE Barcelona!

We also left Daniel, our 2 year old on the dock, when we came back, and everyone thinking someone else had him, was totally surprised when security was following him to our room. Luckily he knew the ship well, since he'd already been on 3 cruises at that point, including another TA.

They were going to leave him Barcelona, not knowing to whom he belonged, or whether his parents were on or off the ship.

I still shudder.

SO when you leave the ship, make sure everyone comes back with you!

Lol Deena I never heard this story! Bless him! At least he found his way to his room!

I have never seen any and I have just come back from my 4th trip to DLP. However, I have always been in winter and I am not sure if they have hair wrapping stands during the summer months
Somebody is in so much trouble when I finally catch up with him ;)
I am on the graveyard shift and DH gets up to no good
Corinna

LOL at least he tried to recover that one lol

Thanks for the information:thumbsup2 Rio will be so disapointed:sad2: He had visions of being able to get a hair wrap every 3 months or so (they last that loing on him) and never having to go without:rotfl2:
I am loving reading about everyone's holiday traditions. I am craving latkes now:love: 12 days from now we will make latkes and play dreidle mmmmm
In the meantime--I won't be posting for a week or so as we fly to Germany tomorrow to look at schools and apartments. We are so excited. I doubt any of us will sleep much tonight (kinds like the night before a trip to WDW or DCL).

Good luck in Germany! Hope you find some nice places for the kidsx and the apartment!

Sorry founding member of the obsessive pet people - its a tradition now that we see pics of any mentioned pets lol so if you get a chance post some for us! I blame me for starting this one as unfortunately Im a huge dog fan and can't have a dog at the moment as living in a flat!

Kathy

The neck pillows do help to some extent but I would say that the beanie ones are better than the blow up ones. I think you can get these at most american airports now. I think they do memory foam ones now. Not sure if these links will work

Memory Foam Pillow
Micro Bean Pillow

Quick post for the day, let's see if I can remember everything (note to self - click the multiquote thing!):

Welcome to the Newcomers!! This is shaping up to be a really neat group of people:banana: .

Hadley and family - safe travels!! I remember something about "Christmas Markets" in Germany from DH's biz trip several years ago, but I can't remember the specifics. Good Luck with the school and apartment hunting! How very exciting:wizard: .

DeAnna - OMG! I hadn't heard the story! It reminds me of those Home Alone movies:rotfl2: . Your little guy sounds like he is pretty well put together to find his way. I'm pretty sure my teenagers wouldn't have been able to figure out what to do:rotfl2: . What a way to start the trip! I have enough trouble keeping track of my three. :worship: keeping track of your crew.

Interesting that Photopass type option is onboard now. Luckily DCL has almost two years to get it refined before we get onboard:thumbsup2 .

I must admit that the new DCL promotion was definitely a letdown for us. We are not likely to cruise in 2009, but I was hoping that they would have something super - 3 day cruise kids 12 &U sail free - doesn't do a thing for me. It is not worth it to fly cross country for a 3 day cruise and 2 of the 3 kids are teenagers. The cat 12 pricing on some of the 7 day is enticing, but we would have to be in two cabins and I'm concerned about being on different decks, etc. It is still spendy too. I think in this economy we will just stick to home for the next year.

We have DCL air booked also. I have always done my own air, but the DCL air/transportation package was really quite reasonable. I'll still look at other options, but we may end up sticking with DCL.

I love hearing about everyone's holiday traditions!

Just checing in. I hope all is well with everyone. :wave2:

I have had a very sick 3yo and and I am running the Christmas Store at my daughters school this week! I am happy to report that we have broken even on the 1st day of sales plus some. Yeah! Anything more is pure profit!!!

Brooklyn is awaiting the cast list for a play she auditioned for. It is Willy Wonka and she wants to be in it sooooo bad, even if just an Oompa Loompa! Hopefully the cast list comes out tonight!!!

Again I hope all is well and you are having a GREAT holiday season!!!

Stephanie, I hope your 3yo feels better! I always LOVED the Christmas Store at school when I was little! Glad to hear you broke even!!!! That's great!

Good luck to Brooklyn! I hope she hears something soon!

Welcome to all of the new cruisers! :)

Meant to say that I too was very disappointed in this! Also it only covers a small period and only 3 night cruises! Plus I think the 2 adults in a cabin is a bit bad as what about single parents? I could understand perhaps 1 free child per adult

On our Halloween cruise on the Magic (Hi guys!), the photopass kiosks were in place but not operational.

Woody

REALLY?!?!? That's the most exciting news I've heard in a while!! I've been waiting for photopass (or at least SOME digital version of Shutters) to get on the ships forever......are they also on the Wonder? Are the operational there yet? We're on the Wonder in May with my parents and niece and I would love to be able to do a digital photo system rather than the old shutters format. Jason and I are HUGE picture package people....and we can be seen getting our photo taken at every single sitting opportunity offered in our Disney ties!!!

Hadley referenced our ties once before----but for those who haven't heard....a DCL tradition of mine & Jason's is Disney ties at dinner. It's ironic because neither of us dresses up at home EVER----we never wear ties here at home unless we are going to a funeral or a wedding! :lmao: However, on the cruise we dress for dinner every evening....and we wear disney ties every evening (and very, very few of them are Mickey Mouse ties....they're ties from other animated films)----and our ties NEVER repeat! :cool1: We have developed quite a collection of unique Disney ties----many of which I bought, but some of which I actually made---and I made our disney tie and cummerbund set for one of the formal nights even (i changed our picture in my siggy to show that----they're 101 dalmations)! Doing the B2B this time...we're going to need more ties than we've ever needed on a cruise so I've been on the hunt recently actually to get a few extras....and (Hadley will love this news) I have already found 3 great new ties that none of our cruise friends have even seen yet! :thumbsup2

I have to admit I only noticed the ties a few nights but do remember at Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer didn't the guy try to bribe Jason for his? Also you had those fantastic waistcoats that night I'm sure!

Yes, he did....Jason won mouseketeer that night...and he was wearing one of a matching set of tinkerbell ties that I made for us for that cruise....those will probably come out one night during one of these two cruises again as they didn't go on the Double Dip with us! :thumbsup2

Also for formal night on the last TA we wore mickey mouse tuxedo vests...we still have those but now we have our dalmation tie and cummerbund and we have another mickey mouse tie and cummerbund set, too....and i'm in the process of trying to find just one more matching set of disney formalwear...although I might have to make it. Because if you're doing the B2B...how many formal and how many semiformal nights will there be??

We leave tomorrow on a 10-night Holland America cruise to the Mexican Riviera/Sea of Cortez. I'll check in when we return.

Woody
