Okay, it has been quiet lately on the thread so I thought I would ask a Question of the Week(end). Has anyone taken a trip/city/amusement park/cruise that they would NOT recommend and if so why? Sometimes people have things happen to them in a particular city and they end up hating the city because of it.
Mine would be Palm Springs! Ugh! We went there - got stopped by the cops for speeding, I got bit by red ants and the hotel we stayed at, on the golf course, starting mowing in the morning at 4:00 AM! I couldn't wait to leave and will never go back - oh yes, my husband's grandmother also died when we were in Palm Springs!
I had to think long and hard about this. Sure we had some events that were less than perfect somewhere along the line: a cockroach (yes, I know people in Florida call them Palmetto Bug) in the bathroom on one of our stays in Orlando, non-stop rain on our last trip to Disneyland Paris and I came back with a chest infection or the bed in London that was so awful that we both ended up rolling on top of each other in the middle. Nevertheless, I have great memories of all those vacations.
The closest I would come is our stay in Las Vegas as part of our self-drive tour through Caifornia, Nevada and Arizona. The vacation was amongst the best we ever had. We knew before we went that we would love Anaheim as we had been before. We also ended up loving the Grand Canyon, Phoenix and San Diego. Ironically, the part of the trip I was most excited about was Las Vegas. I kind of figured it to be a giant, glitzy Orlando, but was sadly disappointed. We were near the top end of the strip, which can only be described as seedy. The hotel itself (Circus, Circus) was nice enough and clean and our room was huge. However, I found the place soul destroying. Still, even there we had some good memories. I loved the half day that I spent at the Secret Garden/ Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage.
To answer the question of the week I would say we had a horrible time on board the Norweign Dawn for a Canadian cruise. The ports were wonderful, but the ship was awful. We will never cruise Norweign again.
Oh, oh, now you have me worried. We have decided to cheat on the Mouse Boats and in less than 2 months time we will do a back to back cruise (5 nights followed by 2 nights) on the Norwegian Jade around the British Isles. What was so awful about it?

I can't believe that we are nearly on the third incarnation of the thread with still nearly 18 months to go.
We were in Sonneberg--fairly far north. We got super lucky on the weather--sunny and warm which was really good as we were hiking through snow up to knee deep in areas. My thighs got a nice pre bikini season workout as we hiked 6-12 km a day--largely uphill with 150 meters of vertical ascent from the train station to the hostel and about the same from where we did the high ropes course (I am so proud of myself for getting through that) back to the hostel (that was the hike with all the snow).
Sonneberg is lovely. When I was there, we had loads of snow. I loved the toy museum there. I am not quite as adventurous as you are. Just the though of a high ropes course makes me dizzy.
Hi everyone:
I just found this thread, I booked the TA repositioning cruise last week. I am Magie, I will be traveling with my DD Michelle and her roomate Chris. No kids this time (school makes that impossible). Michelle and I did a 4 day Wonder in September 2009
, and will be doing a 7 day Magic with my DGDs in June of this year
:. This cruise looks like it is going to be alot of fun, I cannot get over the fact that the cruise is over a year away and there already are 2 threads each over 200 pages long and a third about to be started
.
I have not had a chance to read more then a page or two of these threadsbut I am sure that when I do I will enjoy them
. We have never been across the Alantic and I am a little fearful of the flight
, but I am sure that it will be worth it.
After I have read all 454 pagesI will be back to you. Must go now. Magie

Hi everyone,
sorry I have been gone so long.
I have been at my moms house trying to care for her. But she has reached the point she had to go to the hospital for a week to recover from a heart attack and pneumonia , panic attacks and that illness brought on dimentia.
She had been forgetful for months but now she is very bad and quite ill, so we had to find a secure facility for her to live in for how ever much time she has. I will be going back to her place in a couple days to continue to clean it out to sell and to visit her while she still knows who I am.
I know I wont have time to go back and read all the posts for the last 3 weeks but I hope everyone is well and Welcome to any new people, I will meet you soon.
I'll post when I can but there is no internet at my moms, so it wont be very often for the next few weeks. I cant wait for this cruise. That is what keeps my spirits up right now!!
Kathy
Kathy, i am so sorry to hear about your mother.
