Sept 18 2010 WB TransAtlantic Pirates/Capt Jacks Re-Repoing Repossession Cruise Pt.10

They were a freebie given out at the end of the Castaway Party and were only plastic but I was still gutted lol!

Wow - I totally missed this and didn't get any... Still a shame that they were broken.

I am about to send DCL an email. But I am just interested to see if anyone else was given / or refused this OBC. Thanks.

We got ours - there was a card in our stateroom reflecting it. Hayley had her letter with her and they got theirs as well. Hope that you get it sorted!!

I am settling back in now. I had my first two days back at work and now have two days off. So that was not too painful. I had a couple of eventful days though. When I sifted through my work emails, I found a notification about an internal vacancy that caught my eye. It was for a job in Dubai, which also would mean a promotion. I spoke with Graham on Monday night to see if he is still up for relocating to Dubai, which he is. So yesterday morning I spoke to my line manager to check if he would support my application. He said he would, but would need it before Friday as we was going away on duty travel. As I am on my days off today and tomorrow, I had to apply yesterday. The deadline is October 17th and then the waiting game begins. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I will at least get an interview.

I am in the process of uploading my photos onto Photobucket and then I can get started on my trip report. I am hoping to post the first installment tonight.

Corinna
Good luck on your Dubai interview.

Please post the link to your trip report. It's nice to read and relive the Magic!

We are doing the EBTA in May and I was wondering if you had a Prince and Princess night? Did you dress up for it like pirate night? Thanks in advance for your help!

It was not a theme night as such. The Prince and Princess menu was served on the first formal night.

We opted for Carnival Dream so we could do a 7 night. 3 and 4 nights is just too short. So 3 of the 4 ports are new to us, so it will be OK. But I already feel like I am being nickle and dimes... As I told Glenn it really isn't "Welcome Home".

Good thing that we have a 2012 dummy date out there... Our date is pretty firm - week of 9/15/2012 - as the kids are on break. We looked into Alaska - just not sure about Alaska in September...

We too would love to reconnect with you guys!

I had a look on the Carnival website and Carnival Dream looks rather nice.

Masses of luck to you Corinna! I shall keep everything crossed

I just read on FB that Mousemeets 2011 is to be held on 30th April and 1st May 2011 in Birmingham, which as coincidence would have it is where Corinna has suggested we hold our WBTA get-together, being in a central part of the UK and all. Birmingham would be ok for us, I know we can get a train direct from Reading, so that's cool.........not sure about Mousemeets, but that's fine wouldn't stop us coming!:cool1:

:littleangel:

Oh well.... the clean up guys made of a mess then the water and fallen ceiling. I found a plastic bin that had 10 years of Mickey head christmas ornaments and a wreath... all moldy or broken sitting in a couple inches of water. Im finishing up all day tomorrow. Hey... but it is keeping me out of trouble:thumbsup2
I had a blast with our tablemates... not one dull moment there!:rotfl2:
Love to the both of you!:grouphug:

Annie:flower3:

Annie, I hope all is better for you now. What a mess to come home to!

No, not quite Marilyn.......they wouldn't make a decision until 1.45 am....even though it was clear we wouldn't be flying that night. The plane had mechanical problems (at the time we had no info as to what) on take off at Gatwick and had to turn round and land again. They thought it was sorted (how scary!) but obviously not, so when we arrived at MCO we were told it would be delayed 2 hours til 9.45 pm.

As usual there was a complete lack of info all night....felt sorry especially for those with babies and young kiddies.....they eventually managed to make a decision to put us up in the Hyatt........after having to reclaim all our baggage and collect vouchers from the ticket desk we got into our room at 3 am.........better than some who had problems and didnt get booked in til 4.30 am!!!!! Then we had to get up and queue at ticket desk again to try and get on another flight the next day!:scared1:

Some people didn't get on flight til much later than us (we were on 6 pm flight back) and they also bumped some off the flight......chaos! To add insult to injury they handed out food vouchers for bf etc, but it didn't actually cover bf at the Hyatt so ended up paying for that as well as other things.....:sad2:

Sorry, needed to get that off my chest! I shall be sending an email and follow it up with a large complaint of course, but veryy unhappy with the lack of customer service from VA....apart from one lovely girl yesterday morning who was doing a great job....could have done with her the night before!

Oh......and the problem was with the wing flaps so quite a major one and they had to fly some parts out from the UK apparently! :scared1: Glad we weren't flying on that plane! (Ruby Tuesday)........

I know these problems can't be foreseen but the lack of communication and customer service is a black mark against Virgin in my view.

.......normal (ish) service will now be resumed.............*sigh*...it was still a fab holiday!:grouphug:

:littleangel:

Mandy, I don't know how you dealt w/that. It really sounds like bad communications on the part of that airline. Those poor families w/small kids!

We have arrived safely back in the UK yesterday morning and then pretty much slept for 24 hours straight with short interruptions for eating something and going to the bathroom. We were flying back standby, but were able to check in online in the morning. I was more than a little relieved once I had my boarding passes in my hands. Graham was very ill on the flight home, but is basically back to normal now. Looks like he had some 24 hour stomach bug.

The transfer from the port to WDW was a complete shambles. We did not get to Bay Lake Tower until 12:30. For some reason they did not have enough buses and once we were finally on our way, we stopped at 5 different resorts before we got to Bay Lake Tower. I so wanted to meet up with Candida, Jon and Jason, but by they time I got to Magic Kingdom, they were long since gone. Still, we had a great time at Bay Lake Tower and our room was ready when we got there as well.

Post-vacation depression has definitely set in here, but there is no better remedy then planning the next vacation. I rang DVC Member Services earlier today to book a studio for the night before the Panama Canal cruise. To my immense surprise, the only thing they had available was a standard view studio at Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jambo House), so I took this. I also managed to get a reservation for Sanaa for that evening.

Corinna

Corinna, how did you like Jambo House and Sanaa?

The drink tastings were fun, weren't they?!

Yes, yes they were!!

The last couple of days have been interesting. My great aunt who is 92 was put in the hospital on Thursday with a perferated bowel (not sure if I spelled that correctly or not). Anyway, because of her age there is no chance at this point that she is going to survive this. My mom and I visited her on Friday in the hospital and Friday night they moved her to hospice. I was there on Saturday and again today and she is going quickly. Her one grand daughter is playing music from the 1940's in hopes that when she passes, she can dance to heave with her husband who passed away a few years before I was born. The hospice nurses said it would be maybe 24 hours this morning, but she's in a coma. It's just sad to see her like this. She lived a good long life, but it's still sad and hard regardless. :(

On a much happier note, Dave and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary on Sunday! :)

So sorry to hear about your great-aunt. What a lovely idea that was about the music! I hope all is peaceful and pain-free for her.

And Happy Anniversary to you!

I want to know who I call at DCL to complain about a piece of lugguage I purchase on board. It was the DCL carry on that costs $99.95. It is a piece of junk. The plastic that gives it form all craked and went to pieces. I think it has sat way to long on board and the plastic lost its flexiblity. I am not happy.

How do I go about getting a new one. Any one have any experience in this area.

Thanks.

Hope you get that resolved, Ruth. Maybe you could say you found a fly in it :rotfl2::rotfl2: .

Hi
Can I just ask if everyone who recieved that Med / Baltic OBC letter, the one about $100 per person for booking one of these cruises, actually was given the OBC on the ship.
When we recieved our final invoice the OBC from this letter was not credited and when I queried it I was told at guest services we were not entitled to it as it was for the Med / Baltic and not the TA. When I said that I knew some guests had been given this OBC anyways, the girl said she would phone reservations but then she couldn't get through. As we were getting off the ship to go to WDW for just one day I wasn't prepared to hang around and wait I decided to wait until we got home to query it ...
I am about to send DCL an email. But I am just interested to see if anyone else was given / or refused this OBC. Thanks.

We did get ours, just like Steamboat Will. Fight for it!! You deserve it!

We didn't get the OBC though we had received the letter originally, but we didn't expect to since we'd rebooked our reservation after the effective date of the letter. Oh well, we saved more than the $400 we would have gotten from the OBC by rebooking when we did.

Still can't believe it's over, but we've settled back into our normal routines now. We've posted a few pictures and a short journal entry on the kids website from the cruise. Check out the pics on the "photos" page.

It's been an interesting two days.

Yesterday, my sister came home from school (she's a teacher) with stomach pains thinking she had a virus. Around 2:30pm she was getting worse so my mom and I took her to the ER. After bloodwork, IV, a CAT Scan and morphine, the doctor's determined it was pancreatitis (sp?). Anyway, Beth isn't a drinker at all - she can't drink because she gets a migrane the next day so it was a surprise to all of us. However, she was put on steroids (perdnesone sp? again) and they think that could have caused it with the combination of the other meds she is on. She was admitted to the hospital last night with NBM - Nothing By Mouth until further notice. No drinks or food. She has an IV that is giving her fluids, but nothing else. Needless to say, she's thirsty and hungry but getting better. :)

On a sad note, my great aunt passed away this morning. She waited until her family wasn't really paying attention and passed away peacefully around 7:18 am. When I arrived at the hospital to visit my sister this morning, my cousin (my aunt's granddaughter) and her son and nieces were there to see Beth. My cousin's son said to Beth, "It's been a bad day. Great Nanna died and now you're in the hospital". It was very cute but sad. Her funeral is on Monday so that will be a sad day to say good bye to her. She was suffering from dementia for the last couple of years so she wasn't the Aunt Margy that I grew up around. I will remember her before the dementia set in.

Other than that, life is going well. :) Hope all is well with everyone! :)

Here are my "Top Ten" experiences for the cruise:

In decending order...

10. Smiles, greetings, and friendliness of fellow shipmates (and DISers)

9. Daily stateroom cleaning and towel animals by Jenny

8. Jogging on deck 4, sometimes with DIS lap counters

7. Meeting Special Guests Don “Ducky” Williams and Paige Hemmis

6. Pirate Night with fireworks

5. Bring a friend message with my wife

4. The Shows especially “Walt Disney, The Dream Goes On”

3. The food…yum! (and Mickey Bars)

2. Dining room servers; Toto and Cindy

and

1. Conversations with tablemates (M&M, M&K, and A&B)

What is your "Top Ten"?

I was less than impressed with her as well. Previously, we always have dealt with Joceline and that was an entirely different experience. I did not mind at all that we had to wait for a quote for a few days and even that once we made the booking that we had to wait for a few days for a confirmation. I know that she was very busy. However, this does not excuse that she had overlooked that we wanted transfers and also that I wanted to nominate my existing travel agent. I picked up on the fact that they price was quite a bit lower than I had expected and queried this. Once I realized that she had overlooked the transfers, I then queried the travel agent bit.

We had Toto for our very first cruise and he was fantastic.

I would be if I am still in the UK by 2011.

I am so sorry to hear about your Great Aunt. Congratulations on your anniversary though.

As much as I hate Birmingham, this would probably be the most central spot.

Corinna
Good luck with job,

Not sure, Birmingham may be central for most folks but its a bank holiday and travel will be busy and expensive, cant think if Im working, :goodvibes
We recieved our $100 per person, we had notes in our stateroom on the first day hoghlighting this so we didn't have to chase it, it automatically came off our bill at the end of the cruise.

SW
Same for us. How was universal fright night?

I'm with you on the Mousemeets thing. After all the hassel last year getting a refund on my tickets after finding someone to buy them as was requested by the guy and him still claiming I could only get a 50% refund I doubt I would pay for that again but that doesn't mean we wouldn't come to Birmingham anyway to meet up with everyone! If it is going to be that weekend I suggest we organise it asap as the hotel will book quickly. Happy to meet when ever though!

The WBTA UK reunion meet up doesn't have to be that weekend ... we would have to see what suits everyone best. I was just chucking that idea out for perusal in case lots of us wanted to go to Mousemeets. Personally I would only go to Mousemeets again if lots of my Disney friends were going there anyhow.

We might be otherwise occupied in April anyhow, as ( and I really can't bring myself to say this next sentence ) we may be cruising the Eastern Med on a non-DCL cruise :scared1::scared1::scared1: I have seen some great itineraries and great prices cruising to Venice, and if DD gets on the international college programme we will have to go to WDW in the late summer and that will mean we can only take a cruise in April, May, June or October / November and we will want to do the Med for sure as I don't want two long haul flights in a year :scared1:

Everything is so up in the air until we know about the college programme, and it's driving me crazy.

Oh Med cruise sounds fun! Unfortunately Ill warn you that Disney recruiting take forever to give people answers! They took over 5 months to let us know what was happening!

Good luck to your sister! Big hugs especially for her to get better soon!

Oh how did I miss a top 10:

10. The weather! We didn't even realise that it had rained one day as we were inside at the cinema and then the art auction and God knows what else lol.

9. Daily towel animals! Was gutted the day I didn't get one as we were in our room all night with my foot the size of a tree trunk! We missed the monkey!!!

8. Pirate night fireworks! How lovely were they?

7. Animation! On sea days Oscar presented animation classes in Animators Palate. They did 2 characters each day and I think we did 4 of the days worth which was fun. We missed a few but my Remy was the best we managed (although actually he looked like Remy's brother after a stint at the gym lol).

6. Desperate Shipmates! For those that didn't do this it was a mystery at sea and was hillarious. I loved doing it over the sea days and even though we only got one of the 3 culprits it was still wonderful to take part. The prize of a signed cast picture was a little bit of a kick in the teeth for those that did win but never mind.

5. The drink tastings! Mixology was definately the best but I loved Martini tasting too! The wedding cake martini ruled!

4. Dining Room team - Gabriella, Rajeesh & Gabon - who put up with my weird eating habits and made me laugh at every meal! They were amazing!

3. Palo Brunch! We loved it so much we had it twice - and almost had it 3 times if we hadn't felt so ill the one day (sorry Sue & Hayley)

2. Castaway Cay! Thanks to Mark, Mandy, Paul, Karen, Tim & Kerry for sharing such a wonderful day with us! It was fantastic!

1. Meeting some great new friends! Sorry but this was the highlight of our trip and it will be so much fun to be sailing/meeting up with you guys next year - those of you that I can arrange a meet up with.

Corinna, how did you like Jambo House and Sanaa?

This is for next January. We stayed at Jambo House last year and loved it. We had a Savannah view then, but will only have a standard view this time round. We will not get into Orlando until about 3 PM. By the time we get to the hotel, we will go for a quick swim, have some dinner and go to bed. The next morning we will leave around 7 AM so even if it had been available, I could not have justified a Savannah view.

Sanaa will be a new experience for us. We have previously eaten at Jiko and Boma.

It's been an interesting two days.

If you are in the position to go in May or June, you should not discount doing it with DCL as they offer Med cruises at the end of May and all through June. At the moment the prices are still relatively high, but if last year is anything to go by, they will come down significantly early next year. We absolutely loved our Med cruise this year.

I am working on my trip report and will post the link once I have done a couple of days.

At the moment the prices are still relatively high, but if last year is anything to go by, they will come down significantly early next year. We absolutely loved our Med cruise this year.

I am working on my trip report and will post the link once I have done a couple of days.

May and June would be more difficult for us unless it is right at the beginning of May as DD has all her artwork to submit in May and it is usually very stressful. If she goes to the college programme it will be at the beginning of June and that would leave DS by himself if we went away which is not the best thing really. April or late October / November would be best ..... and DH has his birthday on 31st October, maybe we could coincide with that. It's so complicated when you have offspring to consider !!
