Sept 18 2010 WB TransAtlantic Pirates/Capt Jacks Re-Repoing Repossession Cruise Pt.10

Hello from Te Anau. Yesterday we went for a cruise on Milford Sound among snow-capped mountains and waterfalls. The scenery is spectacular, and we saw fur seals.

Today we leave for an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound.

Woody

It all sounds absolutely amazing. Would love to see some photos when you get back.

Is anybody else on here planning to book the cruise to Hawaii? I am actually quite relieved that it will be round trip from Los Angeles. This will make sorting out flights much easier. The timing works well for us, too.

Sounds liek a great cruise but not really planning on going stateside in 2012. We are considering a Med cruise with Celebrity and a trip to Disneyland Paris at the moment. If I was going to do DCL in 2012 I would be interested in the New York - Canada itinerary or the West Coast USA with Alaska trip.

It's intriguing but we won' do it. Too close to our Dream and Fantasy almost back-to-back cruises. Now....if they announce HI at the end of the Alaska season we might squirrel away our pennies for that.

Hey Krisann - great to see you posting. I hope you enjoyed all your cruises.

We are meeting Sue tomorrow for dinner and so excited. She has horrible weather here today in Orlando but being at the Happiest Place on Earth, I am sure it helps.

Woody - love hearing about your trip. Post pictures when you can. Where did everyone hear about the cruises to Hawaii?

It's the same for us. I am kind off wondering if I should get my TA to book it for us now or if I should wait until I find out how much profit share we are getting this year, which will be announced at the end of the month.

Unfortunately the Hawaii dates don't work well for us school schedule wise, especially since we're doing the Fantasy MV just a month or so before. For grins, and to further push out some dummy dates, I sent Tracy a note and asked her to book us on a 5nt/2nt B2B cruise and also a 7nt Alaska cruise in August 2012, though we might not do either one.

The 8nt Bahamas cruise does nothing for me schedule wise. Its nice that NYC is just a 3hr train ride away from us, and I like the planned sea days, but I've never been able to get excited about PC or Nassau as a destination.

Haven't checked in here in forever so "hi" :)

TA has been instructed to get us on this cruise - just me and Robert this time. We have moved our June Dream cruise (podcast 3.0) to December Fantasy (podcast 4.0)

Very excited about Hawaii - I've cruised Hawaii before with NCL and it will be wonderful to take Robert.

Tell Sue that we said hi!!!! :)

I haven't been on the Dis very much lately...not because I don't want to be, but because...well, I don't know where the time has gone! In the last month, Dave's truck died so we had to invest in a brand new Honda Fit (which is so cute...well, manly for Dave) and I'm still searching for a job.

In the last week or so, my mom has become very confused and out of it. My sister finally talked to her about this past weekend and we're thinking (well, praying) it's gluten ataxia. Basically, she's forgetful, can't remember how to do simple tasks, her works run together and she can't stay on task when it comes to a thought. She has also suffered from falls (probably at least 5 in the last year, one resulting in a broken shoulder), having a hard time picking up her feet, having no concept of where she is in 'space' (she runs into fixtures at stores and even other shoppers), her feet are numb (and she is not diabetic) and she is very fatigued.

She has been on a gluten free diet for about 8 years now, but suffered an 'attack' a couple of weeks ago after eating a hot dog that contained gluten. The symptoms I listed above really started (for the most part) since that time. She went to see our family doctor today and he is referring her to neurologist (spelling...it's too late to look it up! LOL!). I expected that but I'm still very worried about her.

I haven't mentioned anything about it on Facebook because of some of my extended family. My aunt gets all upset if my cousins call her to find out what is wrong with my mom if they read it on FB. Don't ask me why she gets like that, but sometimes it's just easier not to mention anything on there - which really stinks because I'm trying to find out as much information as I can about this condition. Sigh...

Does anybody have any experience with gluten ataxia? Any advice would be welcomed.

So sorry to hear about your mom. We have had quite a time with my mom. She went from taking complete care of herself to being totally helpless and in a wheelchair in 2 weeks time. 11 falls in 2 days. At that point Dennis and I went to her home in WA and stayed there 6 weeks, allowing the neurologist to complete testing. Many tests run including a spinal tap and all showed nothing except the EMG showed that the nerves were sending the message to her muscles but her muscles were not responding. He never figured out why, but Dennis reviewed her meds, made some recommended changes to her primary care provider (a PA that only did what specialists told him) and put her on vit B complex sublingual and tripled her magnesium and within a week she was able to get herself out of her wheelchair by herself. She is now here with us in MT (in her 4th week here) and in physical therapy. The therapist and her new primary care provider here will soon have her walking again. We expect to move from the wheelchair to a walker next week. She has been using the walker a bit the last couple of weeks. She was taking protonix for GERD at 3 times the recommended dose for the past 2 years. FDA just sent out an alert to pharmacists (and physicians too I assume) that PPIs (protonix, omeprozole, other meds of that type) have been shown to block the absorbtion of vitamin b and magnesium in the stomach. The muscles do not work without magnesium and the body will pull from the "unnecessary" muscles (legs/arms) first in order to keep supporting the heart muscle. Her neurologist said he does not think the vitamins were the problem, but he could not give a diagnosis nor explain her rapid improvement. I hope they find something that will help your mom as well.

So sorry to hear about everyone's mom. Hang in there - it is tough. I don't know anything about gluten except that my friends daughter had a gluten problem and her hair would be matted together - even after she combed it. She finally took her to a hairdresser that couldn't do anything and then to the doctor to say why is this happening. He told her that she was allergic to gluten and it does a lot of strange things. Her hair is now perfect and wonderful!!! We wish you were coming to dinner tonght!

Paula - sooo good to see you post. How is life for you?

If you make it to Christchurch, let me know and we can meet for a coffee or something - its not all totally destroyed
Paula: oh, coffee or a cuppa would have been nice.

We landed in Christchurch two weeks ago, then drove to Akaroa for two nights (just lovely!). We returned to Chch for one night at the Airport (Copthorne Commodore), since we were taking the TranzAlpine train the next morning to Greymouth.

Hopefully next time.

Had dinner tonight with Sue and family and Joe and Connie! We laughed and talked and I didn't want it to end. Makes me want to be back on the cruise!!!! Maybe September 2012!!!

Hi Everyone,
missing everyone, been too busy to take my head out of the books lately:headache:

Ok... looking at the itinerary for 2012
anything look good to you???

DD and I are looking at Hawaii...cheap room and no excurtions. Save some bucks and do alot of paddling with a team or two. If I can time it right, maybe Queen Liliokalani race:banana:
