Tell Sue that we said hi!!!!
I haven't been on the Dis very much lately...not because I don't want to be, but because...well, I don't know where the time has gone! In the last month, Dave's truck died so we had to invest in a brand new Honda Fit (which is so cute...well, manly for Dave) and I'm still searching for a job.
In the last week or so, my mom has become very confused and out of it. My sister finally talked to her about this past weekend and we're thinking (well, praying) it's gluten ataxia. Basically, she's forgetful, can't remember how to do simple tasks, her works run together and she can't stay on task when it comes to a thought. She has also suffered from falls (probably at least 5 in the last year, one resulting in a broken shoulder), having a hard time picking up her feet, having no concept of where she is in 'space' (she runs into fixtures at stores and even other shoppers), her feet are numb (and she is not diabetic) and she is very fatigued.
She has been on a gluten free diet for about 8 years now, but suffered an 'attack' a couple of weeks ago after eating a hot dog that contained gluten. The symptoms I listed above really started (for the most part) since that time. She went to see our family doctor today and he is referring her to neurologist (spelling...it's too late to look it up! LOL!). I expected that but I'm still very worried about her.
Does anybody have any experience with gluten ataxia? Any advice would be welcomed.
