Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Everyone must be busy today! We were just told we get to leave early tomorrow...makes it a longer weekend :cool1: :cool1:   :cheer2: :cheer2: We are closing the office at 2pm, but since I come in at 7am I get to leave at noon   :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1: :cool1: It is supposed to be really nice here tomorrow...I plan to go to the pool for a couple of hours before I pick the little guys up from daycare! Then I am sure I will go back with them after I pick them up. I am so sad...this is the last weekend the pool is open :sad2:

Hi all!! Gas prices here in the foothills went from 2.59 yesterday to a whopping 2.99 today!! And guess what?? We are DRIVING to Port Canaveral! :earseek:

Not to change the awful subject of gas prices, but I was wondering - How many of you adults are planning to dress up on Pirate night?? I bought DH a pirate costume from Wal-Mart today and he needs reassurance that others will be dressing up too! He doesn't trust me!!

Is anyone staying at the Doubletree the night before?

Karen

Karen,

I am dressing up!!!! pirate: So DH will not be alone.

Cabin count (for the DIS reminder pages): here's the list I have for who hasn't confirmed.

goofyboots – 1
MSWint – 1
sweetsue – 1
imlazer - 1
Frank and Lola - 1
batc – 3
lds0191 - 1
PaulMC80 – 1
virginiafamily – 1
plutojudy - 1
fsubigdogs - 1
depomas - 1
deege - 2 (friends traveling also - are they DISers on this list?)
constanze - 3? (are the two other couples you were traveling with DISers already on this list?)
Teddyreed - 1?
summerdays - 1
bethannp - 1
tybus - 1?

In case you are wondering why I care about this, I want to include EVERYONE in the DIS meets, and the best way to do that is to print off the reminder signs. However, if you don't want one or don't need one (like Missy), it would be great of you to let me know so I don't waste the ink or paper! Thanks, friends!

And for the record, don't feel afraid to say you don't want one. Missy said she didn't want one and I only cried for 5 hours.

Jenny - we're doing our own door signs, so you can either send me the pix via email and I will print out - or you can bring one, either way doesn't much matter to me.

Sweet Sue

Hi Sue, glad to see you are back and okay. I was just wondering about you. Jenny's post isn't about the door signs, it is for the DIS meets remimders she is making. Just so you know.

What I cannot understand is why people have to turn to violence when this type of thing happens...I understand that these people have lost everything, and I cannot even fathom the horrible feeling of grief that would be associated with that loss. But violence and greed? Why do people have to get greedy and violent? Attempts to rescue HUMAN LIVES had to be put on hold so that the police and what little national guard they have down there could try to control the looting and killing!!! I just don't understand that. It lowers my faith in humanity a notch or two. :sad2:
-Christal

I definitely DO NOT CONDONE VIOLENCE IN ANY WAY - but, I think I can understand a glimmer of what these people must be going through. In just the three days I was without power, I have some idea. It was HOT. Icky hot. Irritable, cranky, want to scream at someone hot. My DD4 had major temper tantrums by 10am every day. We were lucky. We could escape to the mall with A.C. We had plentiful food. We had clean drinking water. The air smelled nice.

These people are living in conditions that are worse than our worse prisons ever were. I'm sure the people with guns didn't know it was going to a children's hospital - they probably thought all of the supplies were being hoarded by the "rich".

They have no power, no television, no news, no nothing. They are wading through water full of dead bodies and feces. The probably feel the world has abandoned them to hell on Earth. If my daughter was at risk of starving or dying of dehydration.... Think about it.

Sweet Sue (who is way to serious today for some weird reason...maybe it was the visit to the dentist who said root canal - pay $1200 up front and then I'll fix it...)

Ditto............these people I am guessing do not have the benefit of insurance. Tell me my I can not provide basic needs for my children and have to live in those conditions, watch me do what I think (thinking under extreme duress) I can do to save our lives. NOT PRETTY.

Okay, I thought her post said she hadn't heard from us about some reminder door sign. I am so confused. :confused3 Ah well, guess that is what happens when you try and read stuff with a 4-year old constantly saying "Mom..." "Mom..." "Snip, snip...I'm cutting YOUR hair" Thank goodness she isn't very good with scissors or I'd be sporting a new hairdoo!

This new job and hours are nightmarish. I never get much time alone anymore. And DD4 has been HOGGING the computer. I only have one, so we have to share. Guess it's time to go buy a laptop. That way I can work from home all day long so I don't have to go anywhere and use up that precious gas.

Glad you all are here, I needed some lightening up today.

I just updated the website. Lisa (10yrann) sent in a picture and some information. It is on page 10 (which there is no easy way to get to ....go to common grounds and work back....WEB SITE FLAW ALERT!!!!)
I did post that phone number( for the movies), and it works BUT I called it and it is a Disney main number so it is kindof a pain...not like calling the theaters to get movie times!!!!
Gas here is only up .20 to 2.79. I am surprised but not complaining. Jenny thanks for clearing it up. I am having good moments and bad with regards to GIna....Lisa, she is in Moss Point (pascagoula is on the coast pop 20,000 and moss point is right behind it (5 miles off the coast...pop 5000). I heard today that FEMA took in 20 refrigerated trucks (for bodies) to Moss Point. THat they had a 30 foot surge of water hit them. It is a tough day but can't worry about it yet and don't want to bring down the PARTY

I can't wait. I need this vacation. My husband called today and said we just need to go on a great vacation, not worry about money ( :cheer2: :cool1:  ) and have fun and be thankful for what we have. What a man :cool1: :cool1: I'm there baby!

Well, I feel a bit better - a little less serious. After reading everyone's post, I ran out for gas. I saw my local station had gone up to $2.95 for the mid grade and figured that wasn't too bad. But they were OUT completely! I went to the gas station next to them, but mid-grade was $3.19! I decided to go hunting for cheaper gas. The 3rd gas station I went to had midgrade at only $2.85. It's actually only a few cents more than what I paid pre-Katrina. Hurray!

I am soooo ready for vacation. Even my boss said I deserved this vacation. This is just short of a miracle coming from my boss...

DNana is coming this weekend to visit. We'll be finalizing our plans, helping me find a long dress for formal night (maybe) and getting our door signs ready. I'm afraid we have so much stuff for our door that we'll never be able to open it because of all the stuff on it!

Bought new shoes for DD then realized they are all black and don't go with her summery dresses for the cruise. Now I have no clue where to find shoes she can wear! Hmmm, maybe I need to buy more dresses! Yep, that must be the solution! SHOPPING!!!

Is anyone staying at the Radisson by the port on Friday night? DB, DSIL, DN and DNana are staying there. I'm driving up Saturday early because DD4 has a Sesame Street play Friday night.

That's about all of the news from here. I actually decided to just SKIP work this afternoon so I could catch up!

Geez, I've posted like 15 times today. :earseek:

An udpate on the cabin tour:

We have decks 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are represented.
More importantly, we have categories 2 (maybe), 3, 5, 6, 9, and 11 represented. Woo hoo!

Any others want to participate? EVERYONE is welcome to come, and if you're category is already being shown off, you can come and relax knowing you don't need to tidy up beforehand! :) If anyone on board is going to be in category 1 (I WISH, right? But if there is a silent DISer who's booked the mack daddy suites, come forward! We want to see your stateroom, er, be your friends! ;) ) 2 (since that's still a maybe, right Karen in California? or have you decided against it?), 4, 7, 8, or 10, and want to show off the room, let us know. I'll add you to the tour.

Toodles!

Just catching up and saw this. My DB, DSIL, etc. have the adjoining Cat 4 to our room. Sooooo, while we're already up on deck 8 ooohing and aaaahing over Karen's Cat 2, we can hop on down to my DBs Cat 4. And I won't even ask him to tidy up (it'll be a surprise), so you'll get to see how a Cat 4 looks in action!

Hi y'all... back from a LONG day out. Had to run to the base hospital for a meeting and some labwork and wound up being there from around 7am till a little after noon!!! But thankfully hubby was done with work by then, so we got to have lunch together and run to Costco for milk. Now we're thinking about taking the kids to an early movie tonight... maybe "Brothers Grimm."

Oh, hubby filled up his truck at Costco.. only $2.79!!! That's $.20 cheaper than the other places around here.

Hubby has a 4-day weekend. Emily is spending Saturday night with a friend from church and we may have Brian's boss and her husband here for a cookout on Monday. Gives us plenty of time to clean house!!

I agree 100%! This week has been tough for me. Not that I have been personally affected by the hurricane but I am just so overwelmed with what is going on. I know those people are in some dire situations which pushes them to violence but what pushes them to fire gunshots at the helicopter rescueing them? I don't know if I will ever understand that one.
I feel guilty for being upset over my dying dog when these people have lost everything. But I know God is interested in all our prayers no matter how big or small we think they are. (Matt.10:30-31).
I am really ready for this vacation but I feel very unprepared. I need to get busy!

Glad to see Sue back! Got lonely being the only Susan on board!!

Did you get much damage around the house from the storm??

I lost the main awning in my backyard. Otherwise it was just leaves. The neighbors lost trees (big huge oak trees, big huge sea grape trees), fences and parts of a roof. Nothing too serious. But now we've got piles and piles of debris (cut-up trees and branches) waiting for pickup.

I am making a Disney resolution:

Starting today, I will post whenever I can. As I work part time, I am guessing that means at least 5 times before we board. Oh my, it really is time. My friends and family booked last March, (04 that is). We have been gearing up for a year and a half. I can’t really believe the time has come. Here in Toronto, the kids don’t start school till the 6th of September, and because of the Cruise, no one is excited about school…. I can’t believe I just wrote that….. Yes I am very excited about them going back, but the whole anticipation thing has been minimized.

Christal – “SOL reservations” - Thanks for bringing my hopes up (Palo reservations)

Jen – “What do I do”? Ok so this is where I get the nasty looks – I am a CA, for all of you Americans, the Canadian version of a CPA. I have my own Tax Consulting Business, I consult Insurance Companies. And no I am not the typical accountant….

Lisa #1– Just noticed, I too have a DH named Jim.

On the gas issue – This morning I witnessed something I had never seen before $1.25/litre. That works out to $4.75/gallon. I am not sure how we Canadians are affording to drive. Now normally (for the past month or so) we have seen anywhere from .80 to 1.00/litre which is about 3.00 to 3.75/gallon. I can only imagine how the next week plays out.

Jen – Thanks for posting my family info. And by the way the site looks awesome. I am very impressed.

Take care everyone, Lisa #2

:wave2:

I did call the phone number for movies. I talked to a live person that had access to the list. It is a long one! Main movies I can remember are Brother Bear, Finding Nemo, Herbie, Pirates of the Carribean (she said they have been showing that one for two years and people still love it on the boat), Incredibles, Sky High, Ladder 49...and I can't remember the rest. They were not currently showing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...but she also said the list could change and it is not unusual for them to show a movie when it first comes out. :3dglasses

Waiting for our Magical Express stuff to arrive in the mail. If it comes at all.

I'm leaving here on 9/15 straight through to Atlanta then down to MCO. DW is flying straight from Minneapolis to MCO. We're hooking up there and speing 9/16 at Pop Century. Then, Southern Elegance towncar over to the Port on the morning of 9/17.

OK, I didn't really mean to rub anyone the wrong way with my comment earlier. I do see where you are coming from, and I can see where people would, by instinct do whatever is necessary to take care of and provide for themselves and their families. But I guess what I was seeing was what Trisha mentioned, where people were shooting at helicopters and people who were just there to do what they could to help them. That's what I don't understand. I just don't get it. I suppose I would have to be in their situation to understand. (I pray that I never have to be) I am thankful every day I wake up in my bed and have roof over my head and a job to go to. Like I said before, I cannot even imagine how horrible it must be for them.

Trisha...I'm sorry about your dog. :guilty:

Jen, I like your DH's outlook on the vacation...sounds like exactly the thing to do!

Renee...thanks for checking the movies! There's a movie that comes out the weekend we board. I think it's called "Almost Heaven", and it looks really cute. But it's by Dream Works, so it won't be playing on the ship. Oh well.

But anyway, hope everyone has a good evening.
