Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Thinking of you Sue...doin' all right? Tammy, you are on the other side, right? And what about you, Karen(D)? I know you are in Florida. Good luck to all of you.
I was just at Savers, returning stuff. I should have just eaten the cost of it because I spent more money~! Point....there were a lot of boys suits, ties, etc there....so you guys that still need them could try Salvation Army or whatever it is called where you live. They seem to be lightly used.

Christal, that's good news. I'll tell Jeff (my DH). Tell Jen he's from Flint. I've played one with his family and really liked it. I remember it being quick and easy to pick up. We'll get a game going!

Oh my gosh! It really is a small world!! She is from Fenton MI, which is just south of Flint!! That's so funny! She'll be really excited to hear that! :cool1:

Hello all,
Just checking in to say hey and I hope everybody is doing well.
Sue- I will be thinking about you tonight. Hopefully this the the last storm of the season to head Florida's way.
Jenny- I hope things are going alright. Chin up, girl!
Jen- I will send you an e-mail with the boys info tonight.
Tracy or whoever originally brought it up- I am taking my 2nd grader out of school for vacation and we have since he was in kindergarten. My thinking is a week of family time is not that important compared to 9 months of school time. I told his teacher the other day and she said they would try and get his work done before we leave. She was very accomodating, fortunatly. My friend's daughter's school district handbook says they do not allow excused absence due to vacations. I'd like to see my son's school tell me that.

We got our Magical express docs today but still no cruise docs. Since ours come from Florida I don't we will get them soon unless they have already been sent.

Well I must admit this is the first time I've ever been in the 99% strike probability zone of a hurricane. Power has gone out three times, so I'm hoping it holds for awhile. It's getting quite breezy. My shed doors have blown out (no surprise, they were old and rusty). I've got a bunch of palm fronds in my pool (no surprise either). Othewise, so far so good!

DD4 is doing well. She doesn't like the wind noises but Caillou and Dora keep her occupied. Silly me I don't even have a radio (we usually have to evacuate) so if we do lose power it's going to be a really long night.

Best get this posted before the next power outage. Don't get too nervous if I don't post for a bit. We didn't have power for 3 days after Francis. Jen does have my cell number - so feel free to call it tomorrow if I haven't posted just to make sure we're okay!

Well - I'm off to cook a dinner using every power appliance I can think of. Got to eat all of the "need to be cooked" stuff before we're in BBQ party mode!

Sweet Sue

Hello! Well I just called AllSeas and I can stop looking for my docs for a few days, she has they have not received them and she checked the ones going out tomorrow and they are for the Sept. 10th cruise. That was not the news I was hoping to get. If anyone is still looking for a suit, I have one that is a size 12. It was worn once on our last cruise. Oh well, time to take ds to karate. I will check in later.-Donna

Sweet Sue, thinking of you as I sit here near Clearwater/Tampa Bay wondering what we will get friday and Saturday. Please stay safe. Good thing it's only a CAT 1.

Tammy you are on this side right? Where? Well I gotta run DD to cheering. Be back later to see what's happened. NO DOCS here yet.

We've already been told by the school vacations aren't excused absences. Around January of last year we got a nasty letter sent home from the principle basically threatening that if Amy missed anymore school they'd take the appropriate legal action and how detrimental the absences are to her education - blah - blah - blah. Needless to say I freaked and immediately contacted the principal's office to schedule an appt. DD ha always made honor roll and was only in 2nd grade for goodness sake. When DH and I went in to meet the principle (a newbie by the way) he stated it was a standard letter they send out for children who have been absent 10 or more times. We weren't very happy. Long story short he suggested we visit WDW during Christmas break instead. Needless to say we won't be taking his advice. I figure worse case scenerio, i'll home school. My kids would love that! :goodvibes

To Sue and the rest of you braving out the hurricane, my thoughts and prayers are with you! :sunny:

Here is a website that has a live video update on where Sue is (aren't you close to Deerfield Beach) http://www.hurricanetrack.com/

I am trying to decide if they can tell you whether or not your child can miss school. I know they have to go a certain amount of days to go on but they can't even legally hold kids back for failing anymore...it is a parents decision. I wonder what the law on this is. I am one of those people that would get that letter and immediately schedule a vacation...my authority issues again. Kids get so much more out of a vacation and you could even make it into a learning thing like write a report on st maarten french and dutch and give it to the class etc.....Not that you are looking for something for your kids to do. I just don't understand the schools.

Ok.. I HAVE to ask!! What are the Magical Express Docs? Just when I thought I knew it all... :confused3

We did get our cruise docs today! Mom & Lisa you should have yours tomorrow or next day via Airborn or something....
:cool1: :Pinkbounc  :cheer2: :bounce: :earboy2:

Susan, Magical express passes are for people staying at a WDW resort and getting picked up by them and taken to the resort. Not having to do with Disney Cruise but still exciting it 's getting so close!

Yeah, what jennat said! :)
I believe the Magical Express Docs referred to are for the Disney's Magical Express. That's the complimentary ground transportation service being provided by WDW during the 18 months of the 50th anniversary celebration.

Hope everyone is well.. :goodvibes ..just a little windy here. I live north of Gainesville which is north of Ocala, if that helps any. Looks like the the southern part is taking the beating. As long as Katrina doesn't cut across and come back into the Pan Handle. :scared1: The scary part is sometimes you never know where they may turn or move.

:wizard: Please be careful Florida residents. :wizard: :grouphug:

These school stories are making me MAD. In many places I feel like, we the tax payer-citizens need to reclaim the schools. I just can't even get started with my rant. :flower1:

So...going home to little angel. Hoping she is one tonight.

Oh and Brad....Not to call you a lier but, I really don't see how Angela could have lost twenty pounds since that picture unless she shaved her head and donated a bunch of vital organs. She literally, doesn't have twenty pounds to lose. She must have a great exfoliator! :rotfl2: ;)

 Hello everyone!!!

:umbrella: Sue, hope you are staying dry tonight!

pirate: Tracyl921 - It was me with the extra oriental trading stuff if you are still interested. It looks like you got most of the outfits already. I have extra bandanas, but I hear we get those on the ship anyway, pirate necklaces and black baseball caps with a skull and crossbones on it. I will also be bringing 40+ eye patches (They were cheep and don't take up much room). I may not pack extra other things unless someone wants me too.

Not much new to report here, but there is always time for dancing!
:cool1: :cool1:   :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:   :cool1: :cool1:
:charac2: :rolleyes1

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Forgive me Brad I was thinking along the same line, she looks so trim and fit....20 POUNDS!! Wow!! Give us the secret, and where did she lose it????

I met my son's new teacher and explained that we had not been able to take a vacation and that we were going on a cruise when dh returns. She said the school requires a written letter and she would gather the work he would have to make-up but you could tell that she didn't agree with the idea...oh well. You can't please everyone I suppose but I did hope that she would have understood where I am coming from. She gave me a copy of the attendance policy to "read over." I really wish they had year round school here. I hate having to take vacation at the same time each year. We will move next summer so maybe they will have it at his next school. Don't they have it in CO Jen? I'll have to add that to list of reasons to move there!-Donna

Hey, if I were a teacher I would fully support parents taking a kid on a trip - even during the school year. I think there is a lot to learn out there in this big ol' world that isn't inside of a classroom. I can see making up work assignments and such as that makes sense too.

No idea what goest through the mind of some folks running the schools. Guess in their mind everything is learned in a classroom.

First of all, from the Passporter DCL guide, "Table sizes range from four to twenty guests , though most tables seat eight guests." So Tracey, if they know you are a party of 10, this should not be a problem. I would, in case the email doesn't verify this for you (because they map out the seating chart just a few days ahead of time) go to the Dining Room area once you board to verify this or make any necessary changes.

High school lunch period euchre player, here! In fact, our high school was SO into euchre, we organized euchre tournaments that the school allowed us to carry on for a week during activity period (when clubs meet, teams have meetings, etc.). So I am know euchre very well - I may not be a strategic player but I enjoy the game. DSis also knows how to play euchre.

We have not received our documents. We did get our WDW/POP Century portion of the trip documents yesterday, minus the Magical Express tags (our AAA TA, who we booked the WDW portion of the trip with, said they probably didn't sed those yet so we didn't mistakenly put them on and have the luggage sent to the POP instead of PC). We were glad to get those at least.

Our DCL TA is in Alaska right now. I was secretly hoping he'd get the docs before he left and mail them to us without letting us know to surprise us, but it doesn't look like that's the case. Should have known better - he's way too on top of things to surprise us. I suspect he'll email us when he mails them so we know to be looking for them.

What else? Oh, I'm better now - thanks for the encouragement everyone!

I was planning my scheduler at work today and I realized I only have two more work weeks before the cruise. The 12-16 I have a weeklong class, so I'll be off two weeks in a row. My boss didn't care, so now I just need to start letting clients now to get out of crisis zone and make sure they'll be okay for two weeks without me. (Not that I'm so great - but that they'll be okay with two weeks without counseling services.)

I think I'm going to call the passport people tomorrow to check the status of my passport application.

Brad, congrats on the early seating. Here's hoping the rest of you get your wish. Although we late-seaters are NOT a coody-ridden bunch, in case that's what you heard out there on that crazy MAIN board. ;)

My parents never pulled us out of school for vacation, but I really don't understand why it's a big deal. I support all you pull-er-out-ers! :)

Christal, I hope life starts to look up for your family. I think you and Jen and my DSis and I will be seeing a LOT of each other on the cruise - both doing St. John on our own, both doing Golden Eagle...

I think that's all for now. TTFN!

Emily, you are ever-faithful as the FFC time chime! :) Maybe I'll make you a button to that effect. It has a melodious ring to it, don't you think? ;)
