Sept. 14, 7 Day Roll Call

I am bringing a couple of new books to read plus my personal CD player. Jimmy Buffett, Jim Brickman, Garth Brooks, and Kenny Chesney will be with me to keep me company.
Don't forget batteries to fit everything you are bringing as well.
A small pair of binoculars.
We bought a box of quart size Ziplock bags yesterday and are bringing several gallon size as well.
Space bags for packing up the dirty clothes.
Thats just off the top of this old head.
We recently purchased a nice roll around garment bag and are now wondering if it is going to be big enough for all of our hanging clothes. Gotta look good to impress all of you new friends.

Heidi, are you getting any of the storm up your way yet?
Russ

Ok, here goes the pharmacist in me. You should bring Tylenol as well as Advil. Advil can upset your stomach & if you are already sea sick this will really give you GI upset. If your husband is as fair as you say then definitely bring some aloe vera gel along just in case he does get a tad red. Solarcaine has lidocaine in it to help with some of the pain of a severe sunburn. Well, that's my 2 cents worth:D

Can't wait to meet all of you!

Tracey

Russ:

We are getting rain off and on as the bands from Fay twirl around. Nothing serious though and NOTHING like last year with Allyson!!! It was bad with Allyson as a matter of fact I think just the last of the houses that were flooded last July have just recently been fixed by their insurance companies. It was horrible so this year we are thankful it's just a little bit of rain here although Galveston and Freeport have really gotten a beating!

So Russ, what are the zip lock bags for??

Tracey:

Thanks so much for the insight!...I honestly didn't know about advil but we all take it like M&M's around here...I know I know ... you are cringing right about now...but tylenol doesn't seem to do anything for my aches and pains...only advil! But I will definately bring tylenol now that I know advil will upset my stomach if I get sea sick.

Will any kind of aloe vera help? I know Wal-mart sells an aloe vera gel do you know if that is any good??

Thanks again for all the advise!
:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Heidi

How about Alieve. That is what my Doc recommends for my atheritis when the Bestrex or whatever I am taking quits working for the day. Of course I don't normally cruise so that does not come into the equation.

Hi Everybody,

I have been reading and enjoying this thread for the past six months. I feel that I know many of you from your posts. I am part of Carol RN's party of 20 from Connecticut. Both of my chilldren, their spouses, and my four grandchildren will be along making me a very proud Grandma....

I watched the Magic sail this afternoon on the web cam... So exciting. Thanks for everyone's good advice. I am all packed and ready....Counting down...:Pinkbounc:bounce:

Lop Ears!

It's great to have you aboard!! You are going to love it as will the rest of the family if you haven't already been on a disney cruise! Can't wait to meet you too!

Now Russ, what are the ziplock bags for??

Heidi

We use them to put cookies or candy in to take ashore. Have room service bring you a lunch, pack it in the bag and take it with you on excursions. We also pack all spillables and breakables in these so that the spill will be contained. We had to divide ours last year with our tablemates. You can also get cheese and crackers from room service to take to the shows. To us it is just a good cheap thing to have along.

Speaking of tablemates. I just got an email from one of the couples that sat with us last year. They just had a baby boy. I thought for sure they would name him Russ after me or Bubba after Miss Vivian's dog but they didn't. They named him Johnathan. I emailed them back and told them I would toast Mr. Johnathan at Luminaires Sat. night.

Lop Ears,
Good to hear from you. This is a neat group of folks we got going here isn't it. Sounds like you are bringing the whole family. I know you will have a ball. Is this your first Magic trip?

Now, to make you all feel sorry for me. I have to work tonight, tomorrow, Monday and a little while on Tues., 9/10, and then I am off until 9/22.

Russ

Now why didn't I think of that!! That is a great idea Russ...Well have a good day at work....and we will see you on Saturday...

Hi All-
We are bringing:

-Underwater Cameras (My inlaws found Fuji beter than Kodak on their trip to the Caymens a few years ago- better collor quality-IMHO)
-tie wraps for the suitcases
-4 bottled waters (keeping the empties)
-calling cards for added tips
-ear plugs
-peepers
-yes, books
-My meds run the gamit. (Tracey- Against the advice of the pharmacist here at work I got Bonine instead of Dramamine)
-I am also bring floresant (sp) tape to put on my suitcases before putting them out Friday night (easier to find)

Hi to all our fellow 9/14 ers!

A few more packing suggestions....a little travel clock. The cabin telephone has the automatic wake up feature, but it's nice to be able to glance at a clock while you're getting ready for dinner, etc. Also, don't forget to pack your wacky tropical outfits/shirts for Mexican night. I'm also bringing my walkman cassette player with audio books, it's easier on the eyes to listen to a book in the bright sun by the pool than having to read it! I also bring a short extension cord, as I hate the hair dryer they have in the bathrooms (Your hand gets too hot before your hair is dry) You'll need the extension cord to plug your dryer in by the dresser in the room, as the outlet is so close to the corner of the dresser top that the ground fault plug thing on the end of your dryer cord won't angle into the plug.....(You can't plug a hair dryer into the bathroom outlet, it's for electric shavers only)

Glad you Texas 9/14ers aren't getting too hammered by the latest storm.....we are having a beautiful day in NJ today.

We're not feeling too sorry for you Russ, as we have to work all week (Mon-Fri). (Feeling a little envy though)

I'm enjoying those count down clocks more & more! Love to see those numbers get lower!

Kathy & Skip

Here I sit in the shop while the production guys are making the turkey bags your Thanksgiving turkey will be in. All of the printing presses are running good and it looks like it will be a great day.

The extension cord is a good idea Kathy. I need to drop one in if there is room. I use rechargable batteries and it was difficult to find a recepticle last year.

Christy, I had heard the same about the Fuji cameras. I have got one and need to go get two more. We take a 35 mm SLR, a 35mm point and shoot and a digital with lots of memory. Gotta have those memories.

Have a great day,

Russ:jester:

Russ, is it Bextra that you're taking? This would be for arthritis. Both Bextra and Alvea are nonsteroidal anti-inflamatory drugs & both may cause GI upset (usually stomach aches, cramping). You can usually prevent this by taking the tablet with food. If you have already been taking the drug for awhile & it doesn't bother your stomach, you should be ok on the cruise. One thing that you should keep in mind for the cruise though is to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Remember, alcohol makes dehydration worse! Usually we don't recomment using two drugs that are alike (Bextra & Aleve) but if your doctor said it is ocassionally OK then I would follow his advice.

Heidi, any kind of aloe vera gel will help with a sunburn. Solarcaine is just better for a severe sun burn, you know the kind where it hurts to even put clothes on!!

4 more days of work for me. My 3 YO DD is even counting down the days until "Mickey's ship".

My mother in law wanted to know if there are any other "Theme nights" besides the Mexical..... Anyone know?

Tracey

Yep, it is Bextra. He put me on it about 6 weeks ago. I had been on Viox before that. Oh yeah, I do have arthritis in my feet, hands and one shoulder. About the only time I take an Aleve is if my shoulder starts hurting during the night. I normally take the Bextra in the mornings before eating breakfast. I have never had any type repercussions taking these medications. I drink a good deal of water every day with only a minimal alcohol consumption.
Thanks for the advice.

Other than the Mexical ---- night, I believe the menus will be the same. You can find the menus at Dave"s site, dcltribute.com. We have already picked out our main courses for each meal.

Russ:jester:

I've been dispensing drugs for over 30 years but rarely take any myself (knock on my wooden head). My tummy medicine of choice is Famotidine (Pepcid). Acetaminophen (Tylenol) doesn't do a thing for me so I only pack ibuprofen. I'm bringing a big bottle of SPF 30 sunscreen. We're heading down the day before and will be driving over to the port Sat. If I've forgotten to pack anything, we'll make a quick stop at Walmart on the way out. I can't wait to see you all Sat:wave:

So does that make it 4 pharmacists on this cruise including me?

I thought that I was through with the list but was glad to add your family.
Is this your first cruise? When will you be in WDW. We will be there all day on Thursday.

Karen, I made it 52.5 years without being on any kind of daily medication but then the pain got bad. I do feel better going on this cruise knowing I have 4 pharmacist with me.

It will really be interesting to see how many of the 143 disers I will get to meet. I think I am almost as excited about meeting all of you as I am about going on the cruise itself.

I had a bad thought Friday while letting my mind wander. It does that more and more lately. What if they seat Miss Vivian and me at a table by ourselves? We look at each other across a table just about every night. I want to meet new people. On our first cruise we met a couple that this happened to. We invited them to join our table group but they were afraid it would upset the servers.

Anyone going to be at Downtown Disney Thursday or Friday night?

Russ
