I am so sad watching the horrific news coming from Japan and our thoughts go out to all those affected by this disaster. Now thinking of all our friends on the Western Castline of USA ..... please stay safe :hug::hug::hug:

Agree Sarah. Must be frightening for those on the islands that they think are lower than the tsunami!

Have been watching the news all morning:( it's awful. My thoughts are with all effected.

On the subject of Morrisons - We've just had a call back confirming that Morrisons in Gibraltar will indeed be closed 12th September.

Oh well ... I suppose in the light of these recent events, us not getting a few bottles of wine at Morissons isn't too much to worry about it it :confused3

Good Morning, All!

Indeed, bad news abounds this morning. Will the light at the end of the tunnel never come? Japanese friend on another board checked in - scarey, but all is well with them and no damage. They are not in Tokyo proper.

Welcome aboard all newbies! We are 3 women "of a certain age" traveling together - we met on the DIS through the scrapbooking board. Willing to link dining (main) with other lone travelers, if anyone wishes.

Marilyn, that's an AWESOME site for Madeira!

Happy Day, all!

I know, I saw a bit on the news this morning before I came to work, it's absolutely awful. Gets things into perspective :sad2:

We would need to spend an awful lot of money there to make it worthwhile opening, and I don't think we could manage that even with all the suitcases of booze you all promised to buy!!;) Perhaps we should all email them and plead!!!:lmao:

We did a great private taxi tour that took in the siege tunnels as well as the rock, right up where the tour buses don't get to, and the caves plus a couple of other short stops that were interesting and great for photos. It was all interesting.

Mandy, how are you guys doing today?

As far as the dresses go; I'm using Ebay for mine and so far I've been very pleased with the combo of price, quality and speediness. The same sellers are on ebay.com and ebay.uk.co amongst others and I am highly suspecting some sellers to be on there with multiple accounts (same dresses for both sellers?! :rolleyes1 ). Few tips;

- check out their feedback. There are a few that just are bad, ignore them and do yourself a huge favor.
- some will have a "starting at" price. They're trying to suck you in with prices for gloves and as soon as you select the dress they are adverticing with through the picture; BIG old price, you can just as easily shop at home for that amount.
- only bid on dresses that are up for bid. Buy now options are expensive when you find out the small amounts many of the "open to bidding" dresses go for.
- if your size or wanted colour is not available; be patient. They'll repost them over and over again
- don't get yourself into a bidding war!!!!! As dresses get posted many times, I just wait out until I find the desired dress that has no bid on them. I will NOT go beyond the opening price. If anybody bids against me; have fun with it. Yes, it can take a bit longer, but we've got plenty a time at the moment. Got my first dress at opening price this way and friends have done the same. I'm actually having a few bids on a few dresses as we speak (again with the same strategy).
- found the dress you desire? Have a look at the other Ebay (so the UK one if you are on the .com and vice versa). I've found most dresses are cheaper on the UK-ebay at the moment, but have seen times where they were cheaper in the $ price. Comparing does pay off!
- I've found the posted measurements to be rather accurate. Be carefull to read the full text, as they're stating themselves; the mentioned measurements are NOT those of the body that would fit into the dress but of the dress. Makes it easy for you to compare with dresses at home, keeping in mind that different styles can alter meassurements.

Not sure if we can name sellers on here, so if anybody want names, just sent me a PM. The only thing I ask for; don't bid against me. :rotfl2:

Big, aint it? :guilty: Hopefully the casualties will be limited, but from what I've seen and heared I'm afraid that won't be the case.

Actually sent my parents a quick text about this subject. They just arrived into Bangkok this morning. Now the city will not be at risk, nor their final destination (both were more than safe during the 2004 disaster), but we've learned from the 2004 one how poor communication can easily become in the whole region as soon as something hits. Combine that with the lack of proper information easily for grabs in Thailand and we've come accustomed to us needing to inform any family in Thailand about what is going on in the world and even across the street from them. Just being thankfull that this year they've decided to fly with Emirates and uncle is already been in Thailand for about a week. They have used airlines that would've made for an interesting flight today (connecting in the surrounding area). Blegh, I just hate the combination of tsunami and Asia. Guess it still takes me back to that horrible week in 2004 where we and officials seriously feared said uncle to be one of the many victims. I know they're safe and by now we just laugh about political instability in the region, but this has turned out a touchy subject.

Oh and Dan, could you add me to the dining list? So NOT looking for a one-person table or for DCL to hook me up with a single guy. :scared1: I mean, no complaints if it were a match, but odds are probably better at winning the bingo? :lmao:

I'm signed up for the early dining, travelling solo. DCL should see it on file, but I guess it can't hurt to re-inform them about the fact that I'm showing up in a powerchair but will be transferring to a regular seat at the table (read; thus take up 2 seats. Some people, the arrogance :rolleyes1 ). I know they'll have that influence the table and location they'ld be assigning to me, so just giving a heads up.

Hi all....We've been booked on this sailing since the 2010 EBTA and are now coming out of the shadows. Actually, we (DH and I) recently cancelled our original on-board booking to take advantage of the verandah GTY deal. Using Cruise Compete, I booked through Cruiseadventuretravel.com and got the great GTY price along with $350 OBC, if anyone is still looking. Transferred my original booking to a Dream cruise next summer.

We're thrilled that DD (age 26) will be traveling with us this time. We're in PA, she's in TX, so any time spent together is great. Flight to BCN...check. Hotel in BCN for two nights...check. Travel insurance...check. Now to figure out the excursions and arrange a flight home...plenty of time for that.

Welcome aboard!! Where in Texas is your DD living? If you are thinking about the Tortola catamaran sail over to Jost VanDyke... we are up to 25 now with 40 needed (and a max of 50). If there are any other lurkers out there, start speaking up! :goodvibes

Thanks for all the hugs you guys! :grouphug: We are very thankful she is at peace. We really learned how awful brain cancer is, and pray none of you ever have to deal with it for a loved one. (Stealing a few minutes on the computer now.)

On a positive note :)
So we now know we can't stop at Morrison's... just figure out where else we can purchase wine! Saves my hubby lots of money on a cruise. ;) And can you DVC members send a coersive email to Disney to please schedule a Mickey Halloween party on 9/24 or 9/25? Can anyone pull any strings? ;)

And I didn't recap about my former student's dream to be on the Ellen DeGeneres show.... I had never watched it.... but she WAS able to be on it. Her mom was pulled from the studio audience unexpectedly for the last five minutes. Since TaylorsGift started, the number of organ donor registrations in Texas has more than doubled. In the US, you must "opt in" to be an organ donor. Here is the short clip from the Ellen show.

There is a supermarket about 2 mins away from the marina in Madeira so this might be an option as well as Barcelona.

We'll be fine. I am sure all the duty free shops/little supermarkets up the High Street in Gibraltar will still be open for wine, spirits etc and they were still really good prices.

Just carrying case loads of beer might be the problem :rotfl: I'll have to think of a Plan B for purchasing my main supply of toiletries.

Otherwise, Funchal supermarket at the marina... watch out you will be swamped!!! :lmao:

Yeah, I know I'm stalking the thread. Just try to kick me off. ;)

Those jumping onto Ebay and buying dresses, perhaps some will want to talk behind screens to make sure no dresses are showing up double, tripple and more? I could see where some perhaps wouldn't be too happy about that?

To give an idea of what is possible, I've bought this dress myself. Not sure which night I'll be wearing it, am leaning towards semi-formal.

It is so sad, i've seen lots of news footage today and it is heartbreaking. :sad2: I hope everyone in Hawaii and the West Coast will be safe from the Tsunami.

On the subject of Morrisons - We've just had a call back confirming that Morrisons in Gibraltar will indeed be closed 12th September.

Oh dear, never mind I am sure we will all manage somehow! I guess we can stock up a bit in Barcelona, i'm planning on taking an extra couple of large holdalls so i'll have to fill them up and take them on the ship as carry ons.

Can anyone tell me where the Supermarket is in Barcelona, I think I recall someone mentioning one nearby? I am staying at Hotel Denit, which is near Plaza de Cataluna. Thanks.

Wow !! Absolutely gorgeous. In my experience I would say that this could definitely be formal, semi-formal and, for us DISers already on the purple/black theme, for Villains night !! :thumbsup2
