*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

Now we get to watch Tropical Storm Lee!
We leave from Atlanta on Tuesday evening...hopefully we'll get out on time.

It's always dicey planning to fly anywhere in the South in August/September. The last time we flew out in a storm it was Hurricane Ivan in 2004 - we sat on the runway waiting for one feeder band to pass, the plane was shaking with the wind, and once that feeder band passed we took off. There was a small window of time, about 15 minutes, before the next feeder band rolled through...I was terrified! :scared1: After bouncing around for about 10 minutes, the rest of the flight to Paris was perfectly smooth. Ahhh... :cloud9:

Hope everyone along to Gulf Coast is safe, and stays high and dry! (My son and most family members are in Louisiana.)

Hoping everyone has safe travels, and that these storms don't slow anyone down. :thumbsup2

Lots left to do before we leave. Soooo excited!!!:dance3::dance3:
Peggy keeping everything crossed for you.:wizard:
Both of those times work out great for us. Thanks so much for coordinating this.:cool1:

Perfect! Thank you so much for your patience and hard work :worship:
I am so pleased they work for you both :)

Does your hubby know he has a tropical storm in his name Claire :rotfl2:
How weird is that?

Thank you - I have noted the times, etc. The only thing that concerns me is that it may conflict if my kids get invited to a "Tea Party" but I will just have to cross that bridge when I come to it. If that happens and I can't make it for some reason I understand I am out the $20.

Thanks again for persevering and getting this done for us.

Danae

So I NEVER get may nails done, and today I was out running errands and saw a nail place and decided "Why not?" They asked me if I wanted a manicure or a shellac and I said I want something that will last 2 weeks, so they said a shellac. Of course, I also asked them how long it would take and they said 25 minutes and it took an hour, which wasn't the greatest because my poor 4 year old had to amuse himself with no toys. I mean, why not just tell me the truth, I would have gone out to the car to find him something to play with if I had known how long it was. :confused3

So NOW I know I should have been looking for something special on the little light boxes they used. They did switch the boxes around when they had me move stations at one point, so maybe they were using a special lamp. It does seem kind of thick to me though, but again, I haven't had nail polish on in years.

Middleofamerica - I'll bring some remover wraps and acetone to help you get it off. Yes, you can peel it off... you can probably get away with it once.... but it will damage your nail plate and make them break more easily. If you use the wraps (you don't need the expensive CND ones either - good old tin foil and cotton pads works great too) your nails aren't damaged in any way and it's all done in less than 10 minutes. I'll teach you how to do it :woohoo:

Lots of nail techs wanted to offer Shellac but didn't want to buy a new UV lamp - so they would use their old ones. I had 4 lamps, but wanted to do it right so I bought the one required (Shellac requires a certain light frequency). I have tried it with my other lamps, just to be thorough, and I had product breakdown after a few days. So I only use my CND lamp (they have 2 styles - the Brisa lamp has 3 bulbs, and the Shellac lamp has 4 bulbs, and either one will cure Shellac).

I just wish I could bring my lamp with me! But it's too breakable and I can't risk anything happening to it (not to mention how I would probably end up working my whole holiday). But I'd be more than happy to do polish applications. I'm good and fast!

Disneynut - come see me and I'll see what I can do for you! I'd love to do a Shellac on you, but barring that I'll try to work some magic with what I've got :wizard:

I do TONS of Shellac - it's my most popular offering as a nail tech. I'm about to go cold turkey for 3 weeks (our cruise, plus one week in Canada) without access to my lamp and supplies! I'll be wearing a French Polish Shellac with embellishments, but as it will probably need replacing by the time I get to Canada, I'll have to hit the polish til I get home.

It's such lovely stuff - when it's applied properly it does everything it says. Gentle to the nail, looks great for 2 weeks, easy to remove. :goodvibes

Find a tech with a good reputation, who uses a nice thin application (lots of nail techs make it too thick, which means it can crack and chip off), and uses the proper CND lamp. If the lamp doesn't have CND or "Creative Nail" written on it, find another tech. It's a curing issue - using the right lamp means it will last as long as it should.

Reminder (although this should be in the Navigator), I will have lots of nail supplies with me should anyone need a touch-up or a quick mani by the poolside. I'll bring OPI polishes, repair stuff (silk and resin), nail decals and odds and ends. So if you're having a nail disaster and can't get into the spa, ring me on cabin 6071 :)

(I guess the idea of not doing nails for a few weeks is putting me in withdrawals...) :cutie:

I just got my first one ever this morning. I decided to get a french and so far so good. Do those of you who had them done on the Dream remember how much they cost? Thanks!

I'm slowly getting it all done! I've assembled most everything to pack, got my Euros and pin and chip card and am starting to feel ready. Good thing, we fly out Sunday at 8 a.m. to NY and then late that evening to Paris.

Yesterday I was panicked...today, not so much. I'm sure I will be back to panic mode tomorrow as I weigh each case!:scared1:

Liz - definitely go for it, I was really pleased with the Shellac. :)

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I am going to try to do it this weekend or Monday. That's a great tip about the type of lamp - I'll look out for that. :thumbsup2

Liz I forgot to say, any day is a good day to get a surprise present! Just give your Secret Mickey gift when you want to. :thumbsup2

Thanks Claire. I guess I was just wondering when someone would want it - I'm thinking mid cruise would be nice!

Out of sheer curiosity I called Disney in regards to the movies playing while we are on the ship and Lion King 3D will not be playing. Every other Disney/Touchtone picture released this past year will though...

Aww that really stinks! I was really looking forward to seeing it. We will just have to see it for the few days it is running after the cruise - I think it will be on until Sept 30th or so.

NoelThis is very funny ... I certainly hear some strange comments in relation to childbirth in my job ... including one guy whose partner was in the second stage of labour on a night shift, when he looked at me with a look of total fear on his face and asked me where exactly the baby was going to come out from. :scared1::scared1: it took all of my concentration to keep a straight face on that occasion.

Wow, I'm sure he was surprised to find out the answer to that one!

You must really enjoy what you do! I am hoping to do the shellac here, but may just go w/ a manicure if my nails aren't long enough - they tend to feather on the sides so it is tough to grow them.

How much do you charge for a mani/pedi?

ATTENTION

Tasting dates have been announced.

These work for us. Two questions, though -

Will this be in the DIS navigator, Noel? I don't know how I am going to keep track of all of this. :) Maybe I need to bring my planner? :lmao:

Jeremy is not signed up for mojitos, just me. if he decided to come would they be able to accommodate or no? he doesn't like mojitos normally but I could see him changing his mind!

That's a shame they weren't upfront about the time - I hear your pain about keeping a young child occupied during a manicure! I can do a straightforward, single colour Shellac application in 25 minutes, but it's usually a bit more than that because of the state of some of my client's nails :sad2: I include 2-3 repairs if needed in my Shellac price, so if someone's got a few broken nails I rebuild them in gel, then put the Shellac on top. This takes an extra 10 minutes or so. So until I see what a client's hands are like, I usually tell them to expect at least 40 minutes and work from there. So far, people don't seem too disgruntled with me so I guess I've got it about right.

I hope/think that is comes in the navigator. But I set it in my iPhone agenda just in case. I did this with all the activeties.

Gosh, I hadn't really thought of charging anything! I mean, it's not exactly "salon service"... I won't have a nail table or anything, we'd just have to wing it depending on where people catch me.

Not to mention how Disney might have a large conniption of my taking business away from the spa... :rolleyes1

I'm just offering something I do well to a community that has done so many fantastic things for me during the planning of this holiday. I've never felt comfortable with the spa prices onboard, yet I know that a broken nail or a smudged pedicure can affect how you feel about how you look. If I can brighten someone's day a bit, it's my pleasure.

But if people insist, how about I trade nails for the odd FAB here or there? :flower3:

i would not have been able to resist taking the mickey out of that guy! :rotfl2:

Does your hubby know he has a tropical storm in his name Claire :rotfl2:

Lol no he doesn't but he is about to discover a tropical storm called Claire in a minute....i am getting annoyed with him as he is still working upstairs in our office at 11.15pm on a Friday night. i may just have to go and pull the fuse out.

I haven't even begun to pack yet but I do have 2 bottles of Bacardi Pina Colada!!! Priorities are sorted! :rotfl2:

Could have started packing this evening but have been sat catching up on here with my JD and coke. Have started anti biotics today for sinusitis but to be honest my drink is killing the pain alot more :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That sounds like something I would say. Hope you got him under control with minimal damage :rotfl:

:confused3
What is the best way to pack the FE gifts?? I have everything lined up but have not put in bags as I am afraid it won't fit in the luggage! How does everyone manage?
Connie
(csgraves)

I packed mine in snacksize bags and then in the bag box, because i was afraid they'd get bent

Thank you Noel for all the work you have done. And then all what is going on at home. You earned this cruise so with it to rest from all this.
I am so pleased with the navigator that you make, all in one place.

Have you found it yet. What camera do you have, perhaps someone has the same and you can use there charger if possible.
-
Thank you for asking - so we're on the road this am and my husband says have you got your pass port? yes. where is it? in my pink bag but then i got nervous, so when we stopped, i dug out the pink bag, and lo and behold - there ws the charger RIGHT where it was supposed to be!!!:confused3

GIRL! You are supposed to be on VACATION!

Thank you - I have noted the times, etc. The only thing that concerns me is that it may conflict if my kids get invited to a "Tea Party" but I will just have to cross that bridge when I come to it. If that happens and I can't make it for some reason I understand I am out the $20.

I'm SURE there are some fairy grandmas willing to take your little ones to tea:rotfl:

That works!

Noel ... so sorry to hear about your sad news :hug: and also about your porch :sad2: You certainly do have endless miles of parience and determination to keep up with all of this in the face of frustrations ( the lanyards ) and a very busy life. You are a star :worship::worship:

Thank you for your kind words!!

...and we're back full circle to your going around without pants.
That was just too easy :goodvibes.

A question about Secret Mickey -
If you were getting a Secret Mickey gift, when would you want to recieve it?

Probably half-way through. I'm probably breaking mine into two deliveries, just to stretch it out a bit. But anytime other than the last night (for packing purposes) would be fine, I'm sure.

Ok, I am taking deep breaths so I calm down and tell you the latest saga in the lanyard fiasco.

Since the first company totally screwed up the order and is being very unhelpful in locating the shipment, I decided to go to a backup plan and order more lanyards from another recommended company. I told the first company that am contesting my credit card charge and not to expect to be able to keep my money

So, I order the LIME Green two sided lanyards with the badge holders to be shipped to me by today. Sounds good right?

Well, yes they come at 3:45 PM but guess what? They are 1/2 the size I ordered, baby blue, printed on one side only, wrong font and NO BADGE holders!! I feel jinxed!!

Of course today is the day before the start of a 3 day weekend here in America. I get the sales guy on the phone as I am messaging him a picture of the lanyard laid on last years badges which had sent him as a sample before I placed the order!

He says he will try to sorted it out by Tuesday and shipped overnight!! Lesson learned by me is to order badges two months early instead of one month! I should have had the original badges more than 3 weeks ago!

Back to working on the DIS Navigator!!

How FRUSTRATING!!!
