*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

Let's see....we leave in 12 days for Paris (the 4th). I have nothing packed, still working on FEs and SEs, gotta go get my SM gift...yep, I'm in trouble!

At least I have no grants due....just 3 meetings and I have to update my credentialing application before I go...and get things set up for my DH who is staying at home. He professes that he can take care of himself, but the poor man can't cook, so I need to stock up a bit on frozen meals and some homemade ones that I leave in the fridge/freezer for him.

EEEK!

I'll be leaving for Paris too! I'll be leaving on Sept 3rd and arriving there on the morning of Sept 4th. Then heading to Barcelona on Sept 7th.
I can't wait and have so much to pack still!

Bad Reichenhall? Near Berchtesgaden? ONE of my favorite places in all the world? Have you been to Saltzburg? Konigsee? Up on the Rossfeld? To see the pretty church at Maria Gern? Ohhhhhhhhhh. You LUCKY Girl!

yes - that is where we are - sorry for the bad spelling, my speach is even worse! We go swim in Lake Thumsee almost everyday so that is helping with the heat. Yes we have been to saltzburg, my brother and sister live there. The other places no, I do not think so - but could have been :)

Walked today to the little store down the road - bad mistake - got lots of goodies, including coke, and heinz ketchup!

we went on a 5 hour hike the other day to an Alm - really cool - I have pictures up on my facebook account.

Andrew and I are flying EasyJet from Paris to Barcelona. Can anyone tell me how strictt they are about the hand baggage size limits? Do they make you put your hand baggage in a sizer?

Not liking one bit that Hurricane Irene is ushering in the hurricane season! :headache: I was hoping to hold off any hurricanes for at least another 4 1/2 - 5 weeks!!!! Is that too much to ask?????

per packing: here is my saga!

we left our home on the 31st of July - to go to a conference, after the conference someone dropped us at the airport in nashville, but they took home a bag full of our stuff I purged after the 5 days (some was going back anyway)

then in Maryland I realized I misread the AerLingus website - I thought we could have 2 suitcases each weighing 44 pounds for 15 euros each, I was fine with this, but then I reread it and it is 3 suitcases for a TOTAL of 44 pounds! So I purged even more and graced the US postal service with $60 or 70 pounds worth of excess stuff I have decided I do not have to have for the trip.

Now we are in Germany and I am being careful to not buy hardly anything and have started packing yet again - first suitcase is almost packed and is weighing in at 30 pounds so far, 14 pounds to go in that suitcase. I only then have 88 pounds checked left and 20 pounds each for carry-on - luckily I read your computers can be removed for that as mine weighs about 12 pounds alone!

we are most likely sending home papers from germany of school work we have completed or throwing the pages away - I wish I had a scanner, but do not - hopefully no one will ask to see proof of the pages they did while we were here or we will have to do it over.

Easyjet have no weight allowance for your hand luggage but you have to make sure it is within the set measurements as you will have to place in a sizer and if it's too big you will have to pay for it to be put in hold. Hope that helps

I'd like to know this as well. We have 2 easy jet flights (London to Barcelona) and (Newcastle to Paris) and have paid for extra checked baggage but am concerned about the carry on. Our carry on bags are a decent size but still fit within the size limits given but I'm wondering if they weigh them at the gate :confused3 Given that we each have a laptop, kindle, chargers, phones etc they are quite heavy. If anyone could help answer this, would be very grateful :)

Here is the info taken from EasyJet's website, reagrding hand luggage:

You can take one piece of hand baggage into the cabin with you; maximum dimensions are 56 x 45 x 25cm. Hand bags, briefcases, laptops and laptop bags are all counted as one piece so if you have a hand bag and a laptop bag for example, you might want to consider putting one inside the other. Remember to plan your hand and hold baggage in advance though; if you bring too many items of hand baggage to the check-in desk, staff there will insist that they be booked into the hold; you’ll be charged £25 per item, as we will have higher handling costs if we register your hold bag only at the airport. If you checked in online and bypassed check-in and you arrive at the boarding gate with too many items of hand baggage, there’s a charge of £40 per item if we need to book them into the hold at this stage. We charge this high fee to avoid delays at the boarding gate and ensure a smooth boarding process.
Remember that you can stow hand baggage not just in the overhead lockers, but also under the seat in front. You can help us get away quicker and accommodate everyone’s hand baggage if you use the under-seat stowage for smaller hand baggage items.
And, even though it’s tempting, please don’t try to sneak two items past our gate crew: they’ll have to put one of them into the aircraft hold and charge you for it. It will delay yours and everyone else’s journey!

----

So to confirm there isn't a weight limit but a very strict rule of one item per person (no extra handbag, laptop bag etc), you must also adhere to the maximum size dimensions.

Hope this helps. :)

I know, the planner in me doesn't like variables like these!

There is a thread going on the main DCL forum right now about the hurricane - a lot of people are on the Dream leaving Thursday and are freaking out. Sucks.

did you guys just climb over the railings and stowaway on the ship then? as far as i know the door into the ship is on the starboard side, meaning as you enter, lumiere's is on your left?!

  I think I just had our "tragic" departure from the ship emblazoned on my mind .. where Lumiere/Triton is on my right. :sad2:

must. not. think. about. disembarking. ;)

Technically, hurricane season in the Atlantic started June 1 (it ends Nov 30). Irene is the 9th named storm and the only one that's come close to being a serious storm. I think that's pretty good odds for us.

I was just looking at the National Hurricane Center website for last year's Atlantic storms. There were 8 or 9 hurricanes/tropical storms in September (depending on whether you count the one that started at the end of August). Most of them swirled around in the Atlantic and apparently came to nothing. A couple of these grazed the Caribbean. One piddled out b/w Cuba and Key Largo. Two or three hit Mexico. One went through Texas and ended up in Kansas.

So, several of these were out there during the WBTA, but it sounds like they were able to sail around them. At least Irene is getting herself over with this week, instead of two weeks from now.

Here is the site, if you want to check it out.

But here's a little more Fairy Godmother magic for no storms and smooth sailing. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

You are such a good wife! Hope he appreciates the time you spend cooking & freezing his meals that you could be spending day-dreaming about the cruise!:laughing:
I'm doing the same thing for my daughter...I've basically been packing and freezing all leftovers for the past 2 weeks, so she can have some easy meals available. She always appreciates my doing it.
Look forward to seeing you on the cruise. :)

Hey Debra...it looks like it is coming your way, too! Y'all be careful! I hope it just decides to fizzle out before affecting anyone - but it usually doesn't work out that way. :headache:

Maybe this will be the last hurricane of the season <fingers crossed>. :thumbsup2

GatorMominNC - added your mother to my FE gifts.

Thanks

Candy Swap - everyone have fun with this - we had to drop out when I went into the hospital with undiagnoised diabetes when my sugar was 591 - I am happy to say I am doing much better - even eating some candy - my children were the most disappointed, but I will get them some things as we go. If anyone has extras - I will be glad to exchange with you, even though I am not on the official list anymore.like germany?

Krisann

Krisann -I will try and remember to put some candy in your FE for your kids when I bring the FE presents!

EEEK...Ok, I need to go buy a new carryon suitcase as mine are fine with length and width, but not depth....it starts at 9 inches and then grows at the bottom to nearly 10. I'm not risking having my bag with my laptop and other electronics forced into the hold luggage at 100 Euro!

Rats!
