I have thought about surprising Ed with this, but most reports I've read have said that it is really hot .. as in the temperature of the room! We don't really love saunas, do you think we would enjoy the rasual?

Karen, if you have not done this you should. It is a must try!... If the sauna is too hot or the room too cold, open the door. That is what we did. Ok I should set it up for you. There is a room you go into, they have you lock the door, It has a shower, large tile bench and is all tiled.. floor and wall. It will get quite wet in this room. There is an adjoining sauna. Very nice and it has cool off water hoses in there. You can open that door to adjust temp. Go have fun with it....

we haven't stayed there, but have booked at tryp apolo for the same reasons, good ratings by Hotwire. Hopefully, we'll both have good experiences. fortunately, our's is only for one night.

can anyone tell me about carrying liquor or wine onboard? Is Disney really a stickler or will they let us carry some on?

Hello everybody! I haven't been on the board lately, I've been super busy with work and graduating university. After much deliberation and excellent deal with disney/priceline, i decided to bite the best feeling bullet ever. I'm officially a proud owner of a WBTA interior room, yet to be assigned! Its going to be great to be on the ship.

Now its time to dig out the passport and sort through of these threads! Definitely up for a pj breakfast. So excited to figure out the cruise details!

Welcome!! :) Will it be PJ Breakfast for one? I can add you to the list. :)

I never thought of keeping that door open! I might have to book it and ask forgiveness later.... :rotfl: maybe Celebrity just made it too hot, especially with the door closed.

That was so quick, MandyGirl! Breakfast for one, please. :-)

Hehehe... my job is mostly online based... and I had just finished an appointment and clicked over here to see how many pages of the thread I had missed. I'll add you!! :thumbsup2

We just talk so damn fast here that I normally have to start getting the new thread ready at about page 175 to make sure it's ready in time! Actually really behind this time because I've been I'll, but the next 50 pages probably won't last us more than a week or so!

I thought you were going to be out of town when this new thread was beginning - or was that for the start of Part 4?

just wish i could figure out this 10 post rule???

Well, now you have posted 10 times.

If you need to PM (personal message - that's DISboard email), click on their name, a drop-down menu comes up, select "Send Personal Message" and go at it. You can also receive PMs now.

Now you can send messages to sign up for various meals - like sending me your real official names & reservation number so you can be in the Group 2 Palo Brunch.

Bring it on, baby. No, really, they allow you to bring on beverages that you can carry, starting at embarkation. At that point, you will have to carry them around the ship with you from check-in until about 1:30 (when the rooms are ready).

A BUNCH of folks are shopping in Gibraltar at the Morrision's Grocery Store. There will be those who take their roll-behind luggage, since it is so much easier. Disney DOES NOT charge you for bringing onboard these bottles. However, if they open them for you in the dining room, they can charge a corkage fee. You can open them yourselves in your room and bring a glass to dinner. You can drink it on deck or in your verandah or stateroom, too.

we've never sailed on disney before even though we've taken several other cruises. everyone says, you've got to do disney. so here we are, sept on disney for the first time. hope it's as great as we've been told

I was wondering if any of you that have previously done the WBTA or EBTA would be willing to share how much you spent onboard over the 14 days. Obviously this will vary based on how much you drink, like to shop, etc, but I am just trying to get a ballpark.

We will be calling DCL in advance to put an OBC onto our shipboard account - we'll get six months 0% interest for doing this using our Disney Visa - so I'd like to preferably prepay as much as possible so it qualifies for the no-interest deal. Not sure how much to tell them to put on the account so I was hoping to gather some data from others.

Thanks - Chris

i think whatever you put on that you dont use, they'll refund back to you anyway. so might as well put too much on, that covers you for whatever you want to spend!
(think the only exception to this is OBC given by DCL, TAs etc)

Yes, the non-refundable OBC (onboard credits) are applied first. If you don't spend them, they are gone. If you "over-gift" yourself, it will be returned to its source (no, not your job).

Sometimes you will get a charge to your credit card after you leave the ship; this is just going to be on your credit card as a normal ship-board charge, not subject to 6 mos no interest. This has happened to me several times to cover internet fees. That department doesn't seem to get its charges to the bookkeeper before we get off the boat.

Here are some of the things people have mentioned:

  • Tips - $168 pp is suggested
  • Cove Cafe coffee
  • Wine with dinner - Drinks, we just purchased the 7 day wine package for $200 so that we can have wine at dinner and not worry about it, when its gone its gone! We usually spend about $300-400 a week on drinks, especially with all those sea days.
  • FABs
  • RABs
  • Spa treatments
  • DCL excursions
  • internet package
  • mojito, mixology, beer tastings
  • gift shop
  • Bingo - perhaps $60+ to play one session
  • duty free shop (they sell bottles of alcohol onboard)
  • Photo CD - $399
  • Rainforest pass in the spa (steam rooms, sauna) - one day pass pp $16 - $75 for a 7 day cruise, so I can only assume that the pass is $150 for a 14 day cruise.
  • Palo - $80 (dinner & brunch for 2)

Think about what you spend at WDW for shopping. There is so much less to buy onboard; however, a hoodie is going to be $49 or $69; a tee-shirt $25 or so. If you are a pin collector, you know the prices.

I always buy at least one photo (the embarkation at $20 for an 8x10). They also do professional photos with the white backdrop. Character photos are 6x8 for $10.

I think a 50-minute massage is about $150 - don't quote me. If you are interested in any spa treatments, go to Vista Spa on Embarkation day and register for the free treatment drawing - then, throughout the cruise, you will receive fish-mail with spa discount offers.

Im glad you posted this as we have been wondering the exact same thing. with never having cruised before its very hard to budget an amount for spending. Although my heart has jumped a few times when i've read peoples amounts!! :lmao:

BUDGET is the operative word, isn't it?

Do you only get the 0% if you do this in advance? How far ahead do you need to call? I'm going to be going crazy trying to keeptrack of the 0% balances! I've got it for this cruise, and we have to pay off our October cruise at the end of the month. I also use my Disney Visa for all my monthly expenses and pay that balance off each month to avoid finance charges (I hate finance charges). That might be something we want to do, too. Anything to save a bit of $$! :thumbsup2
I have read it here on the DIS: 0% Onboard Credit Prepayment

and Auntlynne has also confirmed she has done this in the past. I think you need to do it about a week before departure - short enough so your clock doesn't start too early but long enough before the system blocks you out of doing things.

The Disney VISA statement delineates how much money was charged and how much is still owing and the associated date the 0% runs out.

Nope. Just plain old "not guilty."

What they showed on TV never seemed like they were actually proving her guilty. Her stories to cover up everything certainly would make you believe it, though, but the legal evidence may have been shaky.

I think someone in that family is responsible - by their hand - for what happened. And who would bury their beloved child if they drowned accidentally? Not call 911? Well, maybe she was drunk/stoned, whatever, and thought she would get in trouble.

I don't trust her father at all; I think he is either the culprit or his treatment of Casey over the years is at the core of this family's problems.

Here's the response to our request for Palo Group 2 Brunch:

I have received your request for the Palo Private Room for Brunch for your sailing on September 10th, 2011.

I cannot confirm the Booking of the Private Room until August 10th, 2011. The Disney Magic will not release the Private Room to the Cruise Activities Team until 30 days prior to the sailing. With that said there is availability for each sea day; Sept 15, 16,17,18,19 & 22 at this moment. Brunch in the Private Room commences at 10:30am

With that said – and going forward if your party goes below the minimum of 12 Guests, you will have to forfeit the Private Room. Likewise, if your party goes above 14 Guests, the Private Room can only accommodate up to the maximum of 14 Guests. Thank you for the list of names of those who will be joining you.

If the Private Room is confirmed, any Guests that have their own independent Brunch Reservation will have it removed. Each Stateroom is only allowed one Palo Brunch dining per sailing.

Once I can confirm the Palo Private Room for your party, you will receive a Confirmation Email. Please make sure to read and inform all Guests of the Policies and Procedures.

I noticed she didn't mention availability on the 11th or 13th - perhaps that will be taken by Group 1 - OR - because I requested we not be on those days (DVC & Castaway Gold/Platinum Receptions + Pub Crawl on the 13th).

Looking good :) You'll notice the 30 day mark before she will let us know.

We have a Disney Visa which earns Disney dollars; every land trip I use them at the parks. I've never tried using them on a cruise--I imagine it works the same way, but would love to hear from someone who has successfully done this.

The Exotic Rasul is what you make of it... My hubby and I LOVE it... we do it at least 1 or 2 times during the long cruises... it is a better deal for your money and you get to have as much fun as you want. The sauna is hot so we kept the sauna door open that seems to work pretty well. You don't spend that much time in the sauna. The other room was cold so opening the sauna helped warm it up. In other words... you can sorta control the temp in the rooms with the sauna door open, shut or opened a little.

This is a spa treatment not to be missed if you are a couple. DH like is as much if not more than I do. Have fun ladies.... and gents....

PM me if you have any questions on it.....

OK. I am officially intrigued. I just sent a PM requesting further info. Enquiring minds want to know.

Regards,
Jerry

Pretty much works the same way. I transfer my Disney dollars to the rewards card, then put that on my onboard account. Anything not used just stays on the card to be used later. Or so I've heard - we never have anything left by the end of the cruise. :rotfl:
