I was just made aware on another thread that some people consider "giving" to the lanyard fund to be their FE gift.

Does everyone do this on other cruises or what do people think?

I was told that some people who do not want to participate in the actual FE feel that this is a good way to contribute to the FE.

Costs of the lanyards are about $2-3 to give people an idea of the costs of anywhere from 100-150 lanyards for this cruise.

Any thoughts or comments?

Happy to contribute to this. Just let me know how to get the money to you.

All the talk about suntans brought back memories of Deck 10 and numerous cocktails, just as well mine were mostly non-alcoholic or I would have never made it down to the pool:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

For anyone that wants to contribute to the lanyard fund, you can send your contribution on PayPal to my email address birkner@needinfo.com. Please be sure to tell me you DIS name so I can give you credit on the boards.

Just sent the contribution via Paypal, sent it as a gift, hope that was correct? As you can see never used this facility before.

That's been the way it was done on several of my previous cruises. The organizer gets about 10-15 volunteers (depending on the population of Disers) and they divide up the cost. Easier for the organizer to keep straight larger contributions from a few than $3. per person. On the PC cruise, a group purchase was also done with whiteboards.

I was hoping for a group as well who would contribute but of course I will accept contributions from everyone who wishes to contribute.

I will be putting together a spreadsheet on the website soon and will post more info on contributing soon.

Thanks hun, he is home now. Very woozy from the anaesethic & sporting a horrid three inch cut on the top of his head which has been bleeding. They also removed the lump on the back of his ear & both have been sent off to the lab.

Thankfully his chest x ray & bloods were all ok. :thumbsup2 So now we just have to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't scratch at his stitches and wait 10 days until he has his stitches removed and we get the results back. :wizard:

Poor sweetie!! Fingers and paws crossed for continued good news.

Beware the Cone of Shame.... I know it's for their own good, but I always feel so guilty anytime I have to put one on my buddies. They just give you this look.

This is my old dog Zoe, when she was undergoing treatment for kidney failure.

IMAG0008-1.jpg

She had to have IV fluids to try to kickstart her kidneys again. When they first put her in the kennel at the vets, she didn't have the cone on. They told me later that she had the IV out of her leg in under 5 minutes, hence the cone. I had to continue the IV at home. It was obvious how much she hated the cone, so I told her I'd take it off, but if she messed with the IV, it was going back on and she would have to sleep in a crate (which she hadn't done for years). When I took her back to the vets the following day, they asked how I got her to leave the IV alone and I said, "I told her she'd have to wear the cone if she didn't." They couldn't believe that, but that's the way Zoe was - for me. Alas, the treatments didn't work, and we lost her two weeks later. But she was truly an amazing dog - scary smart! Best. Dog. EVER.

This is her during better days.

We are thinking of booking this cruise. Is anyone going from Central florida, Tampa or Orlando area. If so what kinda of deals on flights have you found. thanks Cindy

When I was looking for flights I looked out of Orlando and Miami, thinking I might drive or fly down there and leave my car to be picked up when we got back. I really didn't find any good flights/deals. I didn't think to try Tampa.

I think you would do better to fly out of Atlanta (I know I saw a couple flights out of there) or NYC and just pay for the extra flight up there. I ended up getting flights out of NYC on CheapOAir for about $475 a piece, and then spent another $75 getting each getting to NYC from Raleigh, NC where we live. The best deal is I'm paying $175 to rent a car in Port Canaveral to drive home (9 hours) on Saturday when we get in.

We're driving to Orlando (from central GA) and leaving our car at my parents' house. They're going to pick us up after the cruise and we'll drive home on Sunday. So we'll be flying from MCO to Barca. Try Cheapoair.com and 1800flyeurope.com. I've been watching them for a couple of months now. They seem to go back and forth on who has the better fare. I've found one-way fares starting around $600. When I checked fares from Atlanta, they were higher than from Orlando, but I think they fluctuate. I know the flight I want has gone up about $100 since February. I'm just waiting for Dennis to get his leave approved before I book as it's non-refundable.

Glad he is home now and on the up-and-up! Yay for xray and bloods being okay!

Not from Florida, but wanted to say "welcome"! We booked our airfare with frequent flyer miles.

I just got my glucose blood results back last week and they were normal :woohoo::woohoo: so that's a bonus!! I've never been referred to as normal before :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 WooHoo!! Yay!! :woohoo:

I wouldn't be a fan of that idea because some may be doing lanyards or not, or FE or not. Just my $0.02. :)

Will get on this tonight!

I think it is a nice way to contribute if you are NOT doing a FE but that is just my thoughts.

ahhh... I see... I misinterpreted!

BTW - just sent the gift for lanyards. Do we do it the same way for pins? I think you had told me euros on that one?
