My DH and I have lived in St Martin 5 years ago (actually we have started dating there!! lol), we are more than happy to go back even for one day

Maho Beach (known also as "Kerosene Beach" because of the smell :rotfl:) is a funny place to visit!
The "Sunset Beach" bar is ok, you have some shops (deluxe) and casinos not far away but I would recommend to spend maximum 2 hours there...more and you get bored

My DH and I, we will probably go to Grand Case and then to Pinel Island (French side) it's one of our favorite place in St Martin :lovestruc

Ooooh we have someone to ask lots of St Maarten questions to now! ;) I hope you don't mind.....:flower3:

Do you happen to know of any good car rental companies at the port?

I'm really thinking we are low capacity. Yes, some top cabins are gone, but the rest of the ship really has almost every category showing with 7 cabins (which seems to be the most they "show" when choosing a category). One-way airfares, unrest in the middle east, fear of Bin Laden retaliation. We cruised shortly after 9/11 from San Juan, and they ended up doing last-minute dirt cheap specials that were literally 75% less than what we paid. Of course, it was too far into penalty period for us to even upgrade or anything.

So I did a GTY Oceanview because it seemed like a great price. If they are having a problem getting to capacity, and they drop the price before the cruise I will feel really disappointed. For those of you experienced DCL cruisers (this is my first time), any chance they will upgrade me to a Verandah vs. selling it to someone for less than I paid for an OV?

St. Maarten is easy. You can use US$ but also any euros you've got left from previous ports. The official currency of the French part (St. Martin) is euros but US$ should be of no prob. except for perhaps being dealt a bit less exchange rate. As far as the Dutch part goes (St. Maarten); the official currency there is ANG (antilles guilder) but they are so touristy they'll take both euro and dollars. For both parts of the island; be prepared to get your change in the local official currency though!!

Okay, thanks everyone, that is very helpful. I think I will just get a lot of euros in Barcelona and use them in Gibraltar and St. maarten also.

BTW, I THOUGHT I was caught up on this thread, but I was 2 pages behind -man you guys post fast! So my last post, about upgrades, was already asked and answered by others. Apparently, not too likely I will get an upgrade. That's okay, except for a Navigator's Balcony I would be a little concerned about safety with the kids (aka the little monkeys because of their love of climbing on things).

Should the website be "WBTA 2011"? Or am I missing something with the "911"? :confused3

This is John signing on for the first time.

Great site, John....def. above and beyond :worship: (and very helpful!)

If you make it more secure (great idea), just tell us what you need from us.

Just another thought....Perhaps the themes for the evening could be added to the itinerary page or under the events section, whatever is easiest.

:cheer2:Fantastic job on the website John!!! We appreciate all your hard work, great to have everything in the one place while looking for information!!:cheer2:

John has been working on a basic website for our cruise from which we can create DIS Navigators.

Before we add the content to the site, would people please click on the link below and give us some feedback.

The site is not discoverable on the net, you must have the link to access. We can make it a users only site if people want by asking people to submit their email addresses to access the site.

Please let me know what you guys think.

WBTA site

:thumbsup2 Noel; looking great to me. Thanks to you and John for hard work.

9 as in September
11 as in 2011

perhaps you were looking for some hidden meaning

and then, again, we have the 10th anniversary of 9-11 on this cruise. :sad1:

Oh, okay. No, not looking for any hidden meaning. Was actually thinking of 9-1-1 - emergency number, vs 4-1-1 - information. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. ;)

I actually thought the same thing when I first saw it.

Thanks for all the compliments and discussion on 911.
So, I have changed the web name now to WBTAsep2011. The issue was that you don't always get the name you want. Also, yes, will add the theme nights to the itinerary at a later time. -John

John didn't have enough posts to post the new website URL so here it is:
