Sept 1 2012 disney fantasy FE

So glad we finally have room numbers. However this one is bittersweet. We had two rooms with linked reservations and were upgraded from category 9A to category 5A which is a substantial upgrade. However one of our rooms is on Deck 10 Aft and the other is on deck 8 forward, opposite ends of the ship and a lot further apart than we want to be especially travelling with our elderly grandmother who will be by herself. We were assured when we booked this second room that as long as the reservations were linked they would get us as close together as possible but this isn't close by a long shot. Has anyone else had an issue like this? We spoke to a supervisor at DCL and they were no help, they said we could pay to upgrade for closer rooms which was over $1000 more each. Its seems as if they are still in sales mode.

Can you post tthe link that shows our rooms for me to read please...
I only have read reviews on the disboards of our rooms and ones similar and all seem fine.. You spoke of crew area or something but that is on other side of boat opposite of us.... Let me know:rolleyes1

I cannot seem to duplicate my initial query, but I swear I read reviews that said you hear thruster noise in my cabins and one poster reported being awakened at 5:30 a.m. by thrusters on the final day. Most of the posters said the noise existed but was not a problem. However, that kind of noise WILL be a problem for us, given the sleeping habits of the little ones and the fact that the big ones are light sleepers and were hoping desperately to catch up on sleep.

I thought I saw another post regarding the same cabins on the Dream (I believe), and somebody said the entertainers use some sort of door nearby to access the area for the theater, which is one floor above. The theater is the source of the music noise, although I saw very few complaints -- maybe only one -- about that.

Is there anyone who booked guaranty who did not get an upgrade? Or are we the only ones? :confused3

I am an avid no lol more like obsessed internet person and I have not found any bad reviews about these specific cabins... please remember also the structure of deck 2 is different than magic and wonder but if you find anything negative about our cabins please share. I keep up with too much lmao....

 I hope you don't stay too stressed. I cruised with my kiddos when they were younger and in the nursery and trust me they will sleep!!:) Also shows only happen at very specific times and that would rarely be naps even for your youngest. When Layla was little sometimes she would catch a snooze at the show;) If the stress is overwhelming I think you should look at upgrading so you don't ruin your excitement!!! Shows swap with dinner nightly and a few shows have a matinee but only a few. As I stated earlier the crew door you are concerned with is showing up on reviews on the other side and noise mostly is aft problems for the new boats. We also don't get into these ports early except Cozumel so that is only 1 morning that you would notice or your last day that we all have to get up anyway to go back home.... Again let me know if you find our cabins but mostly I saw reviews for magic and wonder and none for our specific cabin on dream or fantasy!! :) And if you have sailed on older boats you know the rooms go further forward on older boats than the new ones...:3dglasses

I found one of the things I read -- overall, positive reviews but it reflects thruster noise and that the rooms are classified as noisy.

But thank you for the kind words -- I agree it's not worth stressing about. I think this was more of a shock than anything else, given that virtually everybody who bought a guaranty is getting a huge upgrade and we got rooms we never would have chosen and never thought we would get. We're still lucky to be on this cruise!

Don't worry.... That review was for the wonder! I can tell since it mentions steamer trunks which the dream and fantasy don't have. I have read very few complaints about deck 2 rooms on the dream or fantasy.

:rolleyes1 wrong boats..... This was before the Dream and Fantasy
Also if you look at deck plan of boats they are shaped different on fwd 2 vs older ships....

Wow, you're right -- didn't even notice the dates, although I checked before getting your post and the original poster did sail on the Dream -- just later, apparently. Thanks for pointing that out and sorry for the confusion!

Did you book rooms exact same time or hooked together later? That makes a difference I have noticed over the years of family and friends all booking at same time or booking separate times.... Is it possible to try for a room that sleeps 5 instead so she can be with you?

They were booked at different times but still early enough in the game, that when we booked the second room we asked if we should cancel and re-book our existing reservation so everything was done at the same time and we were told it wouldn't make any difference. They told us they would do everything they can to put us close together, Not the case. Definitely need the two rooms. I just don't understand why they wont accommodate us when there are still several rooms in our assigned category available. By the way one reservation is under my husband and one is under myself and there is a anniversary notification on both reservations, It is our second wedding anniversary, both of which have been celebrated with DCL and we booked the rooms that way in case Florida Resident rates come out before the cruise ( in case you were curious). Mentioning the anniversary celebration had no impact with the DCL supervisor.

Can you ask to switch to two cabins near each other in your assigned category? I know you can do that with other cruise lines.

We even offered to downgrade a little and they said that when it comes to GTY status rooms it is "simply not possible to change them"

FWIW my travel agent told me yesterday that I could switch without charge my 9B cabins (booked 9B guaranty) to other 9B cabins if they were available. They weren't in my case.

I had five rooms in my booking party (only two are participating in this FE though and my room as well as my sister's (Erika) have stayed the same) two of the other rooms got moved up to the 7th floor. So the majority of my party is on the 7th floor without me. Our rooms were never close to begin with though so it doesn't really matter to me but I would like to be closer to the rest of my party. Still keeping my fingers crossed for an upgrade so I can be closer to them.

That's so sad my mom and sister booked at diff times and didn't requested linked rooms and they got them and my sister isn't so happy about it lol

OK,
Not sure what my husband did different today but he was able to convince them into moving one of our rooms. Now we are just right down the hall from each other and still got to keep the upgrades:cool1:
