I thought I had read a couple of times about people setting up a waitlist that was separate from their reservation. They way I understood it, for example, was that they had a reservation at AKV for 6 nights but really wanted BWV. If the person had enough points to cover 2 reservations they set up a completely independent waitlist for BWV day by day to try and give themselves the best chance. They didn't want it to automatically switch b/c they didn't want to move for only 1 night in the middle. Then they could cancel the AKV if they got enough consecutive nights, and if not then they would cancel what they got at BWV and stay at AKV.

Did I understand that this is what can be done? If so, how? When I asked MS about it they said I couldn't set up 2 ressies in my name and the only thing that could be done would have it automatically cancel my first ressie. Do you use someone else's name and then change it? :confused3

Well, maybe I misunderstood - or it's only been talked about but never tried.....

I'm not sure about a seperate reservation, but here is what we are doing:

We own at BCV and want to visit WDW next April/May but stay at VWL. I booked a ded 2BR at BCV for our 8 nights at our 11 month window, just to make sure we had a place to stay! :thumbsup2 I booked this day-by-day to insure that we got the type of room we wanted, etc. even though for the time of year we are going this might not have been necessary.

When our 7 month window comes up I am going to call MS and try and change or resort. I am going to wait to call until the 7 month mark from the day we wish to check-out so that if nothing is available we will be put on the waitlist for the entire 8 nights. This way, the reservation will only be switched if we can get the entire week, not a day or two, here and there ... does that make sense? It is my understanding that if you make a dad-by-day waitlist request that you could end up with some nights at one resort and some nights at the other and would be moving back and forth.

If I am giving out bad information, someone please correct me! :rotfl:

Also, if this is not quiet what you are looking for, call MS because there are some VERY helpful and knowledgable CMs there and if it can be done, they will find a way to make it happen! :thumbsup2
If you call and get a CM who is not as knowledgable or helpful, polietly thank them for their time, hang-up and call back ... as many times as needed to get the info and answers for your situation. This has worked for us many times in the past.

Hope this helps! Jennie

Edited: I just re-read your original post and think that I understand it better -- why you want a seperate reservation, etc. to get a better shot at day-by-day. I think you got a "less than completely knowledgable CM" and should call back and ask again. If you have the points, you should be able to make as many reservations as you want! The only problem I see with this plan making sure you stay on top of the dates so that you know when you can cancel one of the reservations without penalty like points being put in holding, etc.

Thanks for the reply bellazachmom! I know I was being clear as mud in my question! :rotfl: I will just try MS again about the day by day - my question was about having the best chance to get the full reservation during a busy time without risking only getting one day in the middle and moving 3 or 4 times! Otherwise I would just waitlist for the whole time and either get it in total or stay at the original place. I was surprised to hear that I couldn't make another reservation since I did have enough points although I figured if nothing else I could use my sister's name or something and then change it if it did come thru.

I appreciate your help!

In the past year, year and a half, they have not been allowing you to have two reservations in one name. Perhaps you and your husband need separate villas?? ;)

Anyone know why MS won't let you have more than one reservation?

If you have enough points, what's the problem?

What if you needed 2 villas, or maybe wanted to invite your in-laws but wanted them to be at a seperate resort?!?!:lmao: Would MS put this on the same reservation?

What if your guests weren't staying the exact dates as you (arrive later, leave sooner?) Would that still be considered one reservation? Or is it that it just needs to be in a different name?

I wonder if this has anything to do with the ability to now get the dining plan ... :confused3

I'm a little confused so any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks! Jennie
