DW, DS, and I are making our pilgrimage to DL next August 15-21st. Long time DW vets, grew up in Florida, yadda yadda yadda. We'll be doing a split stay with our first few nights at a nearby offsite hotel and our last few nights in a 1BR Grand Californian DVC room.

Our DS will be just over 4 yrs old at the time of the trip and we always do separate rooms or suites with separate rooms with him because he goes to be around 7pm and then we're stuck sitting in the dark trying to be quiet for hours until we're tired enough to fall asleep if we do a single room.

As best I can tell, the only places I can find that have suites with true separate sleeping areas where he could go to bed and DW and I could stay awake comfortably without disturbing him are:

Below prices are for 8-15-15 to 8-18-15 (three nights)

Howard Johnson - Kids Suite (1 King, 1 Bunk in separate room) - $944.19

Camelot Inn - 1BR Family Suite (1 King, 2 Queens in sep room) - $733.59
(I think the Tropicana also has a two room suite that might work as the sister hotel of the Camelot?)

Are there any other true "suites" that I'm missing that are in close walking distance? If not, is the HOJO worth $200 extra over the Camelot? (We'd really prefer to be across the street, not a half-mile away at somewhere like the Hilton or Staybridge.)

The Desert Inn and Suites would possibly be an option. You can check out their room options and floor plans here...

We are trying them next year, in a parlor suite. I don't think they've released prices for August yet. The parlor suite (one room has 2 queen beds and the other has a couch that pulls out into a bed) is sometimes as low as $95. But I think during more popular times it may be more around $140 or so a night. They also have more expensive/larger options.

We've stayed in the C2 family suite a few times and were happy with it. Real beds on both sides and you still get the parlor with the pull out as well.

Ramada Maingate at the park has 2 bedroom suites (one sleeping room with 2 queen beds and a parlor room attached.) They are in a building that is only a year old-so nice and new! Their pool was awesome! My DS6 and DS4 loved the room and the pool. Free parking, wifi and a minimal free breakfast. Be advised hotel is under renovation right now, but it was further away from the new building and we never heard any construction noise. Here is my review on the dis:

Try using the promotion code "LKMS" (Mousesavers) when checking those dates at the HoJo; the total drops to $802 for the kids' suite. We love the kids's suites!

Another thought - not sure if your dates are flexible, but we noticed a huge difference in crowd levels when the two types of southern California annual passes were unblocked for the summer on 8/18 -- the first part of our stay was prior to that date, and if we did it over we would make sure our entire stay was before those passes were unblocked. I don't think the August 2015 passholder blockout dates are available, but just something to think about IF you have the flexibility!

Welcome Home :goodvibes You will love VGC :thumbsup2
You might want to request a villa facing Redwood Creek (x514), which are very quiet.

Doesn't really look like what we need - some of the double rooms have the entrance in the room where we'd have the boy, meaning we'd be trapped in the other room - or the only bathroom is in the room where we'd have the boy and would risk waking him up to use it. Poor design either way.

Looks like only the 3 room suite would work for what we want and they show as unavailable on their booking site (other rooms are available, so the dates are open, just no rooms I guess).

Huge thanks on the discount code - saves almost $150! Hojo is looking like the front runner, and I think he'd love the waterpark.

As for dates, no we aren't very flexible. Due to work I can't do early in a month and I will be starting another semester of grad school the following week. I don't think any other dates would really work, too well, but that's also why we'll have a full five days in the parks.

I'll make a note of that for the request next month!

Another option is the Kids Suite at the Carousel Inn and Suites. http://www.carouselinnandsuites.com/

We liked this suite a lot when our kids were that age. I do not know about the current rates, but you should take a look.

Rates would be a little higher than the discounted HoJo room and I think we like the look of the Hojo a little better, but thanks!

So I think we'll book the HoJo. I can always cancel if something better pops up. :)

Thanks for all the help (and so quick, too)!

Ah, I didn't realize you'd be wanting to leave the hotel room while your 4 year old slept. We are staying in a parlor suite and plan to put our 1.5 year old's pack n play in the front room for naps and probably bed too. But we'll just hang out in the other section of the room during that time.

Not leave him alone, but for one of us to be able to leave and come back without disturbing him. Too many rooms have the master in the back and the secondary sleep area up front by the only entrance/exit - how are you supposed to get in and out!? You can't. Been there, done that, not fun. Even sticking our son in his pack-n-play behind the curtain in the sink area of a WDW moderate was bad enough when he was little.

Yeah, I figured you weren't leaving him alone. Ha! We're putting our son in the front section of the suite. But we have no plans to leave while he's napping or sleeping so it will thankfully be fine for us.

The Residence Inn Maingate has 1 bedroom suites where the entrance is the living room/kitchen w/ an attached bedroom. We stayed there when DD was 3 and it worked very well for us.

Our last 2 trips w/ DD at age 4 we stayed at GCH and HoJo's - both standard rooms. She ended up going to bed closer to 9 each night as she was so hyped up w/ us in the room with her and I went to bed soon after but woke early and read in the hallway until she woke up at her regular 7am. Unfortunately it's been hard to get the HoJo's family suites any time we look - that would be perfect for us.

The downside of the Residence Inn is that it's about a 15 min walk versus the 8 min walk for HoJo's. DD4 absolutely LOVED the HoJo's water park - we were there last week and for the first time she was OK going on the water slides and loved them both and we will be returning there next spring although again the family suites are sold out already.

I also read Hyatt is opening up a hotel on the corner of Harbor and Katella sometime next spring which looks like a Hyatt House where there is a suite kind of layout so I'll be keeping that in mind for future trips although it will also be more like a 15 min walk to the gates which is a bit long, even w/ a stroller - especially after being spoiled by GCH and HoJo's.

You might have to call the Ramada (and many other hotels) about their suites. In my experience, many hotels don't show their suite availability ot pricing online.
