Sep. 7, 2015 on the Dream

I can't wait to see little Jase in a custom. pirate: Will he be a pirate? pirate: I hope it is going to be a Halloween cruise. Pumpkin pies and treats :jumping2:

I'm clearly late to the party with 15 pages of posts and still 7 months to go. I already posted on the roll call over at Cruise Critic, but this is my first post on the disboards.

I don't know what a FE is or if I would participate... I also don't know how to make a permanent signature...lol but looking forward to getting to know some of you!

Tracey

Now now - it's actually 50 degrees F here today which is pretty darn good for the middle of Feb. If you haven't been to Calgary - it's a little different than the Canadian stereotypical weather. We get the warm air off the mountains which cause chinooks. Good for warm breaks in the middle of winter, not so good for migraine and headache sufferers....

Where are you from? Maybe 50 sound like torture to you anyway?

Next question is about transportation to the port from the resort. I really don't feel much like doing the Disney transfer although the price is right. I don't want to go at a time they set for me, I want to choose my own time. I've priced out sedan service and it's more than double.

What are your thoughts? Anyone done anything really successful?

Pretty sure we are renting a car. We will be there the weekend before to visit parks so we will need a car. We'll just drop it off before we board, hopefully nice and early. But this is our first cruise so I'm not 100% sure what that looks like.

Okay, I need a new cruise countdown ticker for my siggie. I don't like how mine still says 7 months and everyone else is 6 months, 3 weeks and 5 days. That sounds much shorter LOL!

We arrive on Saturday into MCO late in the day and then are doing MK on Sunday so we really don't need a car. We will be renting at the port on the way back though.

We live in Ohio, its -0 today with winds around 20mph, and going to get colder by Monday. Transportation: We have rented vehicle's before and drove there. I have heard of some small family's getting together and renting like a shuttle bus before. I'm going to look into some of those ideals soon and compare prices.

I'm lurking on y'all's thread even though my cruise is a week later. I have also been wondering about the whole MCO > Canaveral thing. I don't really want to do the cattle bus or other big shuttles. I also haven't done this before. One-way rentals from MCO to the port seem doable, but I don't know how it works out in reality when you're trying to get to and from that rental agency for the drop off and shuttle to the port. (Basically 'shuttle' always makes me nervous.) I was thinking of starting a thread myself, but I'll see if others here have input. Some people make it sound like it's a total breeze, some a nightmare (a recent trip report mentions a full hour of waiting for port shuttles at Budget, only to have the shuttles mobbed).

I also wonder if, in that 'nightmare' scenario at Budget above, if I could just call a taxi to take me from the rental car office to the port?

For you first timers leaving from Port Canaveral. I love driving :car: because when your on the beach line express headed toward the ship when you go over the bridge and see the Disney Ship and the kids go nuts party::hyper2: that's when you know you are the best parents around. :love1: :thumbsup2

Hi,

We did this scenario in reverse last time we cruised out of Port Canaveral.

We just got a taxi from the port (very easy no wait) and went to Thrifty. Then returned the car at MCO. It was a breeze. I would imagine there could be more complexities going the other direction because you have to call a cab to get you at the car rental at the port (though you could call them to see if they would drop you off - some may).

As far as the shuttle at MCO to get to Port Canaveral we used a smaller shuttle company and though it was a long wait for them at the airport - the shuttle trip itself was fine.

I wish we all could go together and rent a bus party:That would be a good meet and greet :chat:

Are you going to the parks? where ya staying etc...

Oh lol :) We live in Mississippi and its only an 11-12 hour drive... We will be driving in the day before and staying at Radisson Resort at the Port and they will shuttle us to the port....
