Sensitive question...

Just wanted to say Hi:wave: and welcome to the DIS!!!!!

I woke early this morning with a worry. I am kind of embarrassed to ask, but need to know. I am a plus-sized woman. Are the rides at Disney a problem for a larger sized person? I want to be able to ride things with my children and be able to see the wonder they experience firsthand and have them experience it with me.

** I am 6'5 500 lbs. The only rides I do not fit on in the world are Space Mountain, Star Tours ( due to not having a seat belt extension), Tea Cups may be tight, not sure, I havent been on them), I know i wont fit on Rock and Roller Coaster ( but that is a good thing), Test Track was tight, but i did get in it, and enjoyed the ride alot. We havent tried too many of the AK rides yet.

Are there weight limits, etc?

** NO Limits

Any rides/attractions to particularly avoid? I would need to be able to ride with one of my two children - ages 3 & 5(when we will go).

** for 3 & 5, you'll be able to fit on everything with them, more disney rides for youngsters are bench seating!

MOST IMPORTANT, if you have a concern, dont be affraid to ask the cast member standing at the entrance to the attraction. If they dont know ask to speak to the ride supervisor. they will know.

BlessedMomOfTwo,

Welcome to the boards. Stop worrying and continue to enjoy planning your first trip to the world.

UPDATE:

Went to Animal Kingdom and Dinosaur ws TIGHT, but that was on my knees, my but had to squeez, but it was about as bad as test track ( those little half bar metal dividers.. ) the belt was plenty big for this pooh sized DH.

Primeval Whirl also fit pretty good, but hold on, that sucker has some tight turns in it!

I also must agree on some of the turnstiles.. POTC mainly, and of all things, the county bear jamboree.

INAMINUTE:

One thing we learned when speaking to the CM in fornt of Muppet Theater, there are soft, comfy bench seats in the back, against the wall.

I was in Disney 2 years ago at my highest weight of 436. I'm 5'5" tall. I have to tell you I enjoyed my trip but I was such a wreck about what I wouldn't fit in that I barely rode any rides and boy did I regret it. I felt like my whole family had fun without me.

We are going the first week in December again and I am down to 309 right now and I plan on trying to ride everything except for Space Mountain. I hear those seats are very narrow. I don't want to miss the fun again.

Please...I can't stress this enough....enjoy your trip with your children. I really regret not doing it the first time. I still am a little nervous about fitting in TOT and some other things but I'm gonna try.

I thought the biggest challenge was the turnstiles at MK only. The other parks I was fine but I actually got caught in the turnstile on the train, which was a little embarrassing. Hubby, very discreetly, pushed me through...lol. I'm quite nervous about that but you can go through the handicap entrance.

Have fun on your trip...you'll do fine.

it would appear that there are many of us here on the dis that have had the same concerns...i am a 6'3" 330lbs man that has been to disney several times and has ridden everything that there is to ride without a problem...the only thing that i can say was a minor glitch was kali river rapids...the lap belt would not fit around my son/daughter and me so i got a seat for myself...

but....

we are returning to the world the end of june and i do have some concerns about the new lap belts in tower of terror...how big are they...are they individual...are they similar to kali river rapids...anyone have any problems with these???

go and enjoy yourself...disney is very good with "people of size"....

have fun!!!!
sunking

Just wanted to welcome you to the DIS, and also to say "Congrats" to those who have managed to drop significant amounts of weight.

Those of us who constantly struggle with our weight know what an achievement this is. Bravo!!!

dh and i cannot sit in a seat at kail together, so we just get our own seat and we are fine. :)

if you want to try space mountain, i would go for it! dh is 6'4" and about 380. he fits fine (other than a little tight on the knee area, which someone else already mentioned). :)

:p I'm 5'6" and 272 lbs. I've been to Disney quite a few times and have never had a problem with any rides. I agree with the poster that recommended starting a walking program before going. You may not loose weight but you will be able to handle walking and standing all day. Have fun and try EVERYTHING!!!

We went in Sept. My mom is POOH size. She told us that she was going to get a motorize cart and of course we laughed and made fun of her. (We are a joking family). Well I will tell you that we did a huge amount of walking. I am so glad she ignored our joking and got one anyway. She was able to keep up and she didn't miss a thing. It was the greastest thing that she didn't miss a thing and she was able to ride all the rides we did. Have fun and don't worry

I am 5'3 and 230 lbs. I was very concerned before our trip last year that I would not fit on anything. I posted about my concerns here on the boards and everyone was so encouraging that I did try almost every ride.

I rode Space Mtn, RRC, tea cups, ToT, BTMRR, Dumbo, Primival Whirl, Star Tours, Dinosaur and countless others. Nothing was tight. I had to turn sideways in some of the turnstiles but I noticed that a lot of people have to do that. The only ride I didn't ride b/c I was worried about my size was Barnstormer. I thought it looked kind of small and was mainly for kids. Now that I have read these posts I know differently ;) and will ride that with my DD next time.

I didn't ride Test Track or Splash Mtn b/c I was just a chicken! :o

Go have fun and Ride Everything!!
