Sensitive question...

Although I haven't been to the world for a couple years ---- I was still Plus sized way back then. I don't remember having any trouble with any of the rides. Just go and create lots of wonderful memories with your kids!

And welcome to the DIS!
:D

Blessedmom,

Welcome to the Dis and please don't worry. I am a pretty big man at 6'1"-250. I have been on rides with friends and family who are much larger than me. We have all experienced the "knee knocking" that some other posts have referred to but that relates as much to height as anything else. You will have no problems at all.

Please don't worry and have a fantastic vacation!

Best Wishes

My husband and I are both on the large size and we have had no problems with any rides at WDW riding with either of our children or with each other - Go enjoy you will have a wonderful time!

I am a plus size woman that has never had any trouble riding any of the rides at WDW. Depending how large you are they have seat bealt extensions. I fit nicely in every ride and haven't had the need for seat belt extensions. Since I have not been on the RRC at MGM I am not sure if they have the larger seats for plus size people like they do one the IOA coasters. I would ask though if you ride that type of caoster.

I'm +sized as well and just got back. I have never had any problems riding anything with my DH or my DD or DS. This includes the Barnstormer and HM. You will have a great trip and try not to worry!

For many years my hubby was in the 425 lb. range and he's over six feet tall. He never had any problem! I saw tea cups mentioned and honestly I don't think he's ever tried that but I think we've been on every other ride.

I am plus size and my sis is ++++ size God Bless her heart.

I have to add something that she voiced twice to me. The places that have those darn trunstile thingys like the Haunted mansion were a definate problem for her. We were taken in another way.

As for the weight vs size issue there wasn't anything she didn't / couldn't ride. We rode things like Peter Pan which is suspended from the ceiling and the Pooh ride which do the bouncy trouncy fun, fun, fun, fun, fun Tigger thingy and they were no issue.

Plus sizes should have no trouble with RNR either. I'm a very plus sized woman and ride it every time! Just make sure to ask for the front seat of the car. There's a little more leg room which makes it easier to get in and out.

I absolutely love the "Pooh-size" reference! I'm feeling cuter by the minute!

DH wants me to go swimming with the family. I did see a lot of Pooh-size people at the WDW pools, but I don't think I'm brave enough for that!

I'm a six foot man who used to weigh over 330 and I'm now down in the 180s, so I have some perspective on this. I'd like to add a few comments:

1. The plus size ride info at WDWIG is excellent, but pay careful attention to the reader comments if you are particularly large. Most of the attractions are "no problem" in the sense that you won't be asked to get off because the restraints don't fit (an embarassment suffered by many at Islands of Adventure) but lots of them are far from comfortable or easy to get in and out of, especially theater seats. You'll feel much more confident if you know where the potential "minor problems" will be so you can give yourself extra time to get situated.

2. The attractions won't be a serious problem, but heavy people face other problems at WDW, like sore feet and difficulty handling the heat. You need to be prepared for these more than for getting onto the rides. If you don't have a job where you spend a lot of time on your feet, you may not realize just how much your feet will hurt after spending several hours per day standing, for several days in a row. You need to schedule plenty of rest time while in the parks, and plenty of rest time between parks.

3. I'm not about to preach at anyone like some "morally superior" former fat guy, but I would suggest that you use an upcoming trip to WDW as an incentive to get more active and perhaps lose some of the weight. Almost every guidebook suggests starting a walking program several months in advance of the trip -- working up to 5 miles per day -- to prepare your feet for the beating they will take at WDW. That is excellent advice, and paired with a four month commitment to sensible eating, you will be shocked at how the weight comes off. If you do this with WDW as your reward for your hard work and commitment, you won't even realize how great the reward is, because you won't know how much better your feeling than you would have if you had not gotten in shape. I've been both ways, and trust me, the difference is ASTONISHING.

The last time I went the most exciting thing wasn't the ease with which I was able to put on the thrill ride restraints (though that was wonderful). The biggest kick I got was trying to imagine myself walking through the hot parks wearing a heavy coat and carrying my wife on my back the entire time. Thinking how relieved I would feel to put her down and take off the coat made me appreciate how much more fun I was having than I would have been if I was still heavy.

Of course, you'll have the time of your life no matter what, guaranteed! I'm just saying, as someone who's been there, that there is no need to worry about how you'll fit into rides, so you're better off focusing on how you'll feel throughout your trip. Trust me, it's worth the effort!

Oh just swim. You are on vacation, and no one from real life will know you! Try a quiet pool if you are uncomfortable going to the main pool.

I have a mesh coverup thing that I wear in the pool. It makes me feel more comfortable than baring all, and it doesn't get heavy and cumbersome.

That said, there are tons of fat people at WDW, and no one will bat an eyelash at you.

Hi and welcome to the DIS! (I love your user name!:D )

I was "Pooh sized" when we went back in 2001. The only problem I had was on the Tower of Terror. I fit in JUST FINE! So don't let that be a problem... what happened was the when the bar came down on the laps, lets just say my lap was a bit higher than 2 kids that were also on the ride. Poor things almost flew out of the ride! LOL!!!

Please don't let anything take away from the incredibly magical time you are going to have. There are people of all shapes and sizes. I swam too, never thought twice about it. Had lots of fun.

You will too! Enjoy your planning and have a magical time!!!

Tower of Terror is no longer a problem, I believe both elevators have lapbelts now as opposed to lap bars.

Only some of the cars at ToT have belts - the others still have the bar restraints. I'm not sure if they are going to convert all of them or not.

We had the chance to ride both types and although I thought I would like the belts better - I prefer the bars. Sorry to be off topic!

I am pretty ++ sized. I weigh 250 pounds & am 5'4" tall. I have never had any problems at all on any of the rides & I ride almost all of them. Don't worry just go & have a wonderful time.

Oh please, I'm 6'10" and 300+ lbs.! Have never not fit on a Disney ride (although I will say that Space Mtn. and TMRR do some (temporary) damage to my knees.

I even ride Goofy's Barnstormer (multiple times -- I have 4 kids!).

Primevil Whirl is a bit hard on the knees as well.

Can't speak for the Tea Cups -- only ride I will not go on -- makes me queezy!

I will say there have been other parks where I'm had to do the "walk of shame" becuase I couldn't fit. But not at Disney.

Have fun don't worry about it!

Gregg

Oh! I just thought of one very uncomfortable attraction! The Muppet Theater seats are very tight. Like bruises on the thighs tight. But, the discomfort is well worth it--the show is great!

I am average size and always thought that BTMRR was always a little tight for the knees, but not the seat room. Guess I am spoiled on R&R cause they are bigger seats and more comfy.

Welcome to the DIS!!

I have never had a problem on any Disney rides and I usually ride with one of my children! :) As for swimming, I figure I am on vacation and I am going to take my kids swimming regardless...I don't let it bother me at all! I love to swim and so do my kids now that they know how! :):)

Have a wonderful time!! :):)
