sensitive ears

Thanks for the heads up on the rides--especially good knowing about Jungle Cruise (can you tell me which part the gunshot is?)

How is the Tiki Room? Do the birds squak or just talk/sing? She is terrified when a bigger or tropical bird makes their loud sound.

The gun shot on Jungle Cruise happens just as you're approaching the hippos. The skipper usually tells everyone on the boat to cover their ears before he/she fires the gun as a warning.

The Tiki Room can be loud at times. The birds don't squawk, but at one point there is a thunder storm that is created because all of the singing "angers the gods." I'm pretty jumpy and that part almost always makes me jump. Also, the singing can get a bit loud when the entire room is going at it (the birds aren't the only ones who sing). That being said, I highly recommend that you go see the show with your daughter. She'll be fine with earplugs. It's a daily must-see for me on my visits to DLR and you should experience it at last once. After all, it is the original. :thumbsup2

I hope you and your daughter have lots of fun! :goodvibes

We bought the noise cancelling headphones for children a few years ago because my DD5 has sensory issues as well. These have been like a miracle for us. We no longer have to avoid any loud rides or fireworks. She just asks for her headphones and she is able to enjoy them. Also, be aware that the toilets in DLR are automatic flushing. We take a pad of sticky notes with us. I put a note over the sensor on the toilet so she has time to pull up her clothing and prepare for the loud flush. When we are ready to flush we simply remove the sticky note! Good luck on your trip! :thumbsup2

I take earplugs with me (the bright orange kind that block noise really well) but only wear them if things are too loud. I find that's mostly if I'm right beside a concert/amplified live band or during Captain EO. But I'm not SCARED by loud noises...they just hurt my ears.

I think you're very smart to consider how to protect your child's ears. I see people bring infants to loud places where I'm wearing earplugs...I know the parents know their kids, but I always wonder how the kid is doing.

Coming from a bit of a different angle. I'm a musician that plays in very loud bands. Has anyone tried "musicians earplugs" for their kids? I swear by them, basically they reduce the entire frequency spectrum a certain amount of db. I use -25db. The problem I always have with standard earplugs is that they make your own voice so loud in your head. And make it very difficult to listen and speak when things aren't so loud. I will keep my plugs in all night at a show and not need to take them out to have a conversation. Mine are custom fitted but any music store (musicians friend, etc.) sell ones that will fit different sizes of ears.

I'm very protective of my hearing, and just thought I'd share.
