Senior Citizen vs AP room discount

Does anyone know why the senior citizen room discount is better than even the AP? My friend just made reservations at the GC and when comparing the two, they will be saving at least $250 vs the AP8 rate. You would think that Disney would want to reward the people who plan to return year after year with the best rate....afterall they know the more you come, the more you will spend at their parks. Doesn't make sense to me.

What type of room, view, concierge, standard? What dates? Maybe the AP8 rate is over by then or maybe there aren't any rooms left at those rates. Once the AP8 rate is gone it's gone and your friend would only get a 10% discount on the going rate...I think it's 10% off, maybe 15 or even 20% but no more than that.

I have found that too....that the senior rate is usually higher than the AP rate. Sometimes it's not though, so maybe it depends on the time of year. As for your question of why? I have no idea?

The dates are for the end of April, standard view and the AP8 rates still apply...

I would just think that from a marketing standpoint it would make since to put AP holders at the "top" of the list for best room rates....oh well

Well I'm looking at the AP rate calender and the rates given for the 29th-25th are $279 a night, for the 26th-30th it's $239 a night. Are you sure they got the quote right? I'm having a hard time believing the Senior Citizen rates are less than that......but who knows?

The weekday rates are around the same but on the weekend, May1-2, the senior rate they got is over a hundred dollars less per night......

Last time I looked, there's NO AP rate after April 30th, not yet. So the AP rate you're getting for early May is only the normal 10% off rack rate.

OK I'm trying to check, but they are doing something on the site and I can't get anywhere.

But that was a couple days ago...maybe they are adding new info to the Hotel Availability Calendar, or new info to the Discounts page on the AP site, and there will be AP9, or, like what they've been doing with April prices, just "up to 40% off" for AP holders. You can always change your reservation to an updated price later on!

Ahhh yes, the AP8 rate only goes thru 4-30, the 1-2 do not have a discounted rate available. The rate on the HAC for the 1-2nd is $383 per night.
