Sending "supplies" ahead

I have read in numerous postings that some people mail "supplies" (snacks and foodstuffs for the kids) to the hotel that they are staying at to help cut down on expenses. This sounds like a terrific idea. We are staying at the Hard Rock and I am wondering how this works. Do you just mail the box to the hotel and mark it to your attention? I guess you would mail it the day before your leave for the resort so you are checked in when it arrives. If anyone has done this could you please let me know how you did it so I can plan accordingly. The kids will love receiving a care package from home! Any advice is appreciated.
Also, it is my understanding that a 7-11 is within walking distance of the Hard Rock. Is this true?

Maybe so, but I would not count on walking there. For me and my group it is just too far. While we were there 2 wks ago, you rarely seen anyone crossing the bridge to walk towards International Dr. I'm assuming this is where the 7-11 is.

I sent something to RPR from our local UPS store in Delaware on Monday and it arrived at RPR on Thursday morning. RPR held it until our arrival on Saturday. I had sent it to my attention/hotel guest. And don't try walking to Int'l Dr. Our teen boys insisted we could do it last week from RPR. We did....and never again! It really looks like a shorter walk than it is! and trying to cross over traffic in that area is not fun.

Welcome aboard.

Where are you from, and will you have a rental car when you visit?
If you have the car, then it's easy to drive to the grocery store and pick up supplies, that's why I recommend everyone rent the car. But some feel uncomfortable, or they are from overseas.
Most limo services will make one stop so you can pick up supplies.
Walk to I-Drive from the RPR can be done, but like others have said, it's far.
The walk from the HRH and PBH across Kirkman road is better, and could be done. There is a Walgreens and a few restaurants to visit.
I've made some web pages to help people see what is available.

i shipped a box to myself to RPR last year and 1 this past week to HRH. it is easy and saved us a lot of time and money. time because i didn't have to fight with what we were going to eat as i already had his favorites and also because we had snacks and drinks right on hand. if you go to ups.com they will estimate the cost and ship date for you. i just used their time table and shipped the box both times to arrive before me. i would definitely not wait until the day before. this last time, the box arrived on thursday and i didn't check in until 3 pm on Monday. they will hold it no problem. just address the box to

Hard Rock Hotel
c/o [insert your name]
guest checking in [insert check in date]

and then the rest of the hotel's address. it is super easy. when i arrived, there was a notation on my reservation that i had a box waiting for me and when i got to the room, i pushed star services and they brought it right up. i usually send a 20-25 lb box and it costs me $15 from philadelphia. i send pop tarts and fruit cups for breakfast (last year i sent cereal), bread, peanut butter, jelly, chips, cookies, candy, etc. of course the best time and money saver is the case of mini water and juice boxes. i packed a collapsable cooler in my suitcase and the kids and i had cold beverages in the room whenever we wanted it. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

Here are mailing addresses for the hotels, for anyone planning on doing this:

Portofino Bay Hotel
5601 Universal Boulevard
Orlando 32819

Hard Rock Hotel
5800 Universal Boulevard
Orlando 32819

Royal Pacific Resort
6300 Hollywood Way
Orlando 32819

When I ship stuff ahead, I usually mark the package "Hold For Arrival" and the check-in date (in addition to my name, of course).

Thanks so much for the input!! All of the information you guys provided was very helpful. I will send it UPS so it arrives before we do.
Kelly,
Thanks for the addresses and I really enjoyed your informative book!!
