So, booked a trip, and received the magic bands as stated above. This seems unnecessary since the trip wasnt for a while. Seems like an expense that Disney could avoid. Why not just give the bands at check-in? Put this money to use somewhere more valuable.

They are now shipping them via USPS. As for why they don't give them at check in, I would imagine that they don't have the storage space, plus they are used for magical express.

It might be cheaper actually. Disney may have negotiated an exclusivity contract with them and gotten a better rate in bulk than USPS could offer. We won't know. I don't think a company that is in the business of making money would knowingly spend more when they don't have to.

The cost of shipping is probably the same whether the company that makes them sends them to a resort or to the customers home.

I don't think a company that is in the business of making money would knowingly spend more when they don't have to.

Then why in the world do they give you new magic bands for each stay if old magic bands will still work? Why do you have to get multiple sets of magic bands for each person when you have a split stay? For a company that is in the business of making money, that sure does seem like a waste to me. I have 3 sets of magic bands so far, when I only need one.

You don't HAVE to get new bands. Simply do not customize them. Then, refuse them when you check in and you won't get them and they'll be given to someone else. I asked about this specifically because I thought the same thing.

they have racks behind the check-in counter for MBs. You can only use them for ME, and only those from the US can get them in advance (so many people are still using the vouchers). I got ours at check-in and it was fine -- you really don't need them earlier than that.

When does Disney ship out MB? Right after you booked or when you've paid in full or a is it X amount of days before your vacation?

I'm thinking it might be a cool surprise gift for my mom for mothers day after I book this spring.

If customized, they usually ship at about 30 days prior to check-in. If customized less than 30 days from check-in, they will ship shortly after you have customized them.

We did use are magic bands for checking into DME at the airport. One advantage to getting them early.

Why do you think ticket prices just go up. They have to re-coop some of the money from the shipping and installation of the MickeyBand project.
