Hi! I wanted some opinions on this, I feel pretty comfortable although I wouldn't mind feedback.

DD her BFF (who lives with us, she's literally basically one of my kids) graduate on June 4th. I want to get them something special for graduation and I thought a 3 day cruise would be a good idea at first. The port is in Galveston which is 20 minutes away, they would have 1 stop..do some excursions and be back on ship by 6pm..so I figured this would be a fun, safe trip for them. WELL, I then found out you have be with someone 21 or over for the cruise.

So, next to come to mind is WDW...our FAVORITE place in the world! SO, my plan is this: they graduate on June 4th, and I fly them out the Monday after and they stay for four nights. I will have the dining plan for them, their reservations made since I already know their favorite places there to eat. I think they would be totally excited for this!

I am a little nervous and it would be different having DD so far away without me being there, but with them using all disney transportation....and being onsite and them both having been there several times so they know the routine, I feel pretty comfortable about it. They are both responsible, good kids and I think it would be fun especially getting that sense of independence, not having mom, dad and sis there to bug them. haha

Whatcha think???

Hmmm, that's a tough one. I'm assuming they will both be 18 by then? If so, and you're confident enough that they will be responsible and know where be be at ADR time then it's ok but...would you consider taking the whole family and just getting them a seperate room?

Yes I say go for it. My daughter was supposed to go away with us & her best friend to Disney for their graduation (although it would have been in August) we are staying at wilderness lodge and they were going to stay at Pop Century (we were basically just going to drive them down with us) but there was a change of plans. My daughter got accepted into a summer grant program for nursing, of course it runs right through end of August so they were unable to go. I feel so bad because everything was set and even convinced my husband, it would have definitely been a fun thing for them to do.

Go for it! I can't imagine a better gift or a safer place!

My daughter is 17 and I would feel comfortable sending her for graduation in June....although I'd sure like to go with her ;)

I think with ME, Disney transportation and their meals taken care of they will be fine!

I'm going by myself for graduation (well, me and two friends). I can't speak as a parent, but my parents didn't think twice about our wanting to do this. My mom said she can't imagine a safer place to choose for our trip.

As the mother of a 16 yo...I would absolutely do this...they will be going off to college soon and need to learn to be able to handle themselves on their own.

Hope your girls have a great trip...and congrats on their graduation.

Taking another child into your home and treating her like your own is a true testement of what a great Mom you are.

My daughter also graduates that weekend and while there a many things I am not ready to let her do (she is probably way more capable and ready than I am) but going to Disney would not be one of them. She is perfectly capable of finding her way in an airport and we have done the Orlando airport and ME enough that she could surly handle it herself. Once they are on property there is no reason to leave so I would say --- go for it, what a great idea.

Jumping on the great idea bandwagon. My DS will graduate this June as well and I wouldn't hesitate to send him (I might feel sorry for WDW though). I can't imagine a safer place for a first trip without the parents. She'll be on her own in just a couple of months if she's heading off to college, so it's totally fine. I hope she and her friend have a fantastic time!

I think this is a great idea. And BTW, can I be your daughter too?:lmao:

Thank you for all of the replies! Yes, I do think it's a great idea too. I am changing it to 5 nights so they can have the $300 Disney money with that promotion that's running right now, that can be spending money for them. I am so excited and just can't wait to give it to them.

I do have a corny plan...haha....Okay so when I give them their graduation gift I'm going to have a disney luggage tag in each one of their gift boxes.

Thanks for the input! :goodvibes

My DD is only 7, but I love your idea! Now I have 11 years to plan and save for her graduation trip!!! :lovestruc

Oh goodness yes! My mom is taking me (I'm 17) for my graduation trip this april. We never really talked about me going with my best friend, although now i'm thinking I should have! I just wanted to have a mother daughter trip since we've never had one! My next trip (probably next summer) will be on my own! I'm sooooo excited!

I too have a 16 year old....and agree with everything you have said...couldn't have said it better myself :)
