Does anyone know how easy this is to do? Anyone done it before? Does the bank charge extra for this?

From Florida or the UK Joh?

I know my bank wanted about £80  to do this (for a £7500 transaction)

From what i remember when i used to work at Barclays there were two options. Basically depending on how much money and how quick it needs to be there!

For the less important or smaller transactions you can purchase an international money order =- this is a cheque made out in the currency you need such as dollers. You send it to whoever and they bank it as a cheque. Last time i did one Barclays charged me £10 for this.

The other option is an international payment - this is basically wiring the money direct to the other account in USA. usually a bigger charge for this but more secure and usually will be in the other account in a couple of working days! I think the last time i did this i sent a few thousand dollars and it was £30 - again different banks vary!

Some banks have special accounts where there are no charges for this so that is worth checking. There is also a company called western union i think that can also send money for you, you need to take the cash in and they send it from their account to where ever it needs to go - think they can sometimes work out cheaper than a bank!

Hope that helps!!

Wow Karen!! I only need to send $100 to the US.

We've been offered 4 places on a fellow DISers Illuminations Cruise so I'm trying to figure out the best way to send the money to her. She doesn't have a Paypal account - any other suggestions?

Laura, thanks for the info. I think I'll phone my bank today to find out how much it might cost for a money order.

OnLine FX do an internation maoney transfer, although I've never used it.

Check out their website for more details:

That's why I thought I ought to qualify how much it was Joh - LOL. I can't imagine they would charge you that would they for $100?

My only other suggestion would be to see if they would accept instead of cash a WDW Gift Card for the same value :) They can spend this practically anywhere in WDW?

It will be worth the hassle to do the Cruise though :dance3:

Joh

I just picked up a Western Union leaflet whilst I was out and the charge for sending that amount to the states with them is £14, just so you have an idea, in case the bank is more expensive :goodvibes
