I've been hearing this "Just wait until 2 years from now" since 2000.

Gosh you very high and mighty tonight aren't you? Oh Gee whatever are we to do - Bet says she's been hearing this since 2000! Shucks I guess we should all just give up. Think what you want, say what you want, I have faith that the checks and balances will be restored. The President does not have a clear mandate and has even stated that one of the big tickets he ran on (ammendment to ban ****-sexual marriage) would not pass. Republicans have come out questioning his plan to privatize social security. And the democrats in office are not taking their position of waiting for 2 years - they are questioning the motives and strategies behind the war in Iraq now while they have the chance with Rice. That is their job - that is why people elected them in to office.

And I hate to burst your bubble, but the Republicans control all three branches of the government. I know it sucks to be so powerless (and after all, that's the bottom line here), but hey, keep on trying to peddle these same old tired arguments and see where it gets you.

(and by you, I don't mean you specifically, I mean the Democrats)

Not to mention the Supreme Court, State Houses, and Stave Governor's Mansions.

It's good to be King...

Well said my fellow Richmonder.

Boxer could have said the same thing in a much more civil tone. I watched it during lunch and had a hard time eating. It was like Boxer was reading the talking points of a scripted debate or a tv commercial. She had no reason to be so downright mean. I really do think she likes the sound of her voice way too much and was getting off on treating such a wonderful woman so rudely.

Boxer ranks with Kennedy as the #1 and #2 worst people serving in either side of the legislative branch. California had a better Democratic representative on the hill with Gary Condit.

Oh yes lets encourage name calling - cause ya know, that really shows us how respectable your party is. Whatever.

Uh, no, if you go back and read what I wrote, I don't think you should all give up. I think you should just play smarter. And so far, from what I've read on this thread, it ain't happening. Same goes for a few Senators from "safe" seats grandstanding by making speeches and taking potshots during a confirmation process where the outcome is already pre-determined. That is NOT doing their job.

Stave Governor's Mansions.

I assume you mean "state" and you're wrong again...

Dem's are doing just fine here!

Our Democratic Gov. who took over from a do nothing Republican that left us in a miserable condition has managed to get teachers a very nice raise and provided them with excellent health insurance coverage paid 100% by the state. He's also working towards getting the state minimum wage raised and we expect by fall to have a new state funded group health insurance plan for those who need it.

You know....all that "stuff" that right wingers can't stand????

As I said, I've never seen a more miserable group of "winners" in all my life. Too bad....

Yes - questioning Rice about the war on Iraq - something that #1) is sucking away at our nations money #2) is killing members of our military #3) was sold to the American public due to the immediate threat of WMD that were not there to begin with....yeah that is really taking Pot shots.

It's disgusting that you think that citizens of this country being powerless would be a good thing.

How do you think the people in power feel being called stupid and dumb?

And you don't think it would be a good thing if Bush had lost? That's just plain absurd.

Miserable winner or miserable loser. Man, that's a tough choice.

The point is I'd think as a supposed "winner" you guys would at least have a little something to be happy about for a while....

Then again, I look at what you "won" and who you "won" with and I completely understand the attitude.

Last night's The Daily Show is being replayed with the exchange between Senator Boxer and Condi. It was great.

Dmadman, all I care about is that the truth comes out and for the discussion that has occured to constitute a debate, you and your cohorts would need to actually advance an arguement or use some logic or reasoning. I am not going to adopt your tactic of stating something is true and holding my breath or other typical conservative tactics.

The truth being that Condi and Bush lied about WMDs being the excuse for the invasion of Iraq. If you and Bet are not capable of dealing with the truth, then I am sorry for you. Pity aside, neither you nor Bet have explained why Bush was set on invading Iraq from the first days of his administration. Lucky for Bush, Sept 11 came along (but this even was certainly unlucky for 3,000+ Americans) and Bush finally had an excuse to go after the man who tried to kill Bush's poppy.

That truth is coming out very well. Next week, the nomination of Rice will come before the entire Senate. While no filibuster is planned right now, the upcoming debate will further highlight the truth about Bush and Condi.

If you want to make a debate of this issue, then why don't you trying coming up with some arguments to defend Condi's record. Maybe you could find the missing WMDs with your missing pony.

We don't NEED to defend her record. She's going to be confirmed. Got that?

Kyle, this was all debated ad nauseum during the 9/11 hearings and before the election. None of you, including Senator Boxer, has added anything new to the debate. The people voted. The majority of them didn't agree with you. Your obsession is rather pitiful...

This is the perfect example of how the Bu$h administration will end up.

Just like Elvis.

Destroyed not by any outside source but rotted away from the inside.

Gone before his time, fat, delusional and in the toilet.

Dear _______.,

Earlier today, I voted in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee against the nomination of Dr. Condoleezza Rice for Secretary of State. This vote is an expression of my determination that we hold the Bush administration accountable.

Dr. Rice is a principal architect, implementer, and defender of a series of Administration policies that have not made our country as secure as we should be and have alienated much-needed allies in our common cause of winning the war against terrorism. Regrettably, I did not see in Dr. Rice's testimony before our committee any acknowledgment of the need to change course or of a new vision for America's role in the world.

On Iraq, on North Korea, on Iran, to name just a few of the most critical challenges, it seems to be more of the same. I hope I am proven wrong. I hope the course will change. And I hope that the Administration will recognize the strength of a foreign policy that has bipartisan support.

I am prepared to work with Dr. Rice and others in the Administration to try to reach agreement on policies that will truly strengthen our security and restore America's credibility on the world stage. And I am confident colleagues on both sides of the aisle are prepared to do so as well.

But, we've got to remain firm in our insistence that those who create policies that don't work have the courage to admit their mistakes and the wisdom to change course. Our johnkerry.com community has been expressing that determination in huge numbers.

Over 700,000 people have called on President Bush to fire Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense.

If you haven't signed the Rumsfeld petition, please do so immediately.

http://www.johnkerry.com/ReplaceRumsfeld

And, please forward the petition right now to friends and colleagues, urging them to join in this effort.

I know you share my strong convictions on the importance of holding the President and his Cabinet accountable. I pledge to you that I will not yield in this effort. Let's keep working together. America's future is at stake.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

Pretty cheeky considering he voted to authorize the war.

This is from one of the brittish papers. I will post a link tomorrow. It appears that George Tenet did not take his bribe (the medal) and go away.

It isn't likely to be a rosy path for incoming US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, as former CIA director George Tenet is likely to trash her achievements as the country's national security adviser in his memoir.

"He (Tenet) claims she (Rice) was incompetent, that she didn't do her job" when it came to protecting the country from terrorists," the paper quotes a source as saying.

Tenet's book collaborator and former spokesman, Bill Harlow, denies that Tenet is putting the blame on Rice."The book proposal is confidential," says Harlow, the author of the military thriller "Circle William."
Richard Clarke also had some similar attacks on Condi. After all, she was the one who failed to take any actions after Bush received a briefing entitled "Bin Laden determined to Attack America" Condi is incompetent and it is nice to see another member of the bush administration join in.

Of course, it was just cheeky of Tenet to take the medal and then attack Condi.

Bet you may have slept through the presidential debate or you have been so distracted about the droop on the left side of Bush's face and Bush's erratic behavior that you missed Senator Kerry's explanation for his vote. I will be glad to summarize it for you.

First, Senator Kerry voted in favor of the resolution to encourage Saddam to cooperate with the UN inspectors and that result was obtained. In fact you may owe Hans Blix an apology for any attacks on his competence.

Second, Senator Kerry did not authorize military action until diplomacy was exhausted which did not happen. Bush did not negotiate with our allies and the US went into Iraq in violation of international law and the UN charter.

Third, Senator Kerry only authorized military action if we had adequate support from our allies. Instead, we had a joke of a coalition (don't forget Poland) that meant that the US bore 90%+ of the cost and causalties.

Finally, Senator Kerry only authorized military action on the basis that Bush would have a plan to win the peace. That obviously did not happen. We were not greated as liberators but as occupiers. Of course authorizing torture did not help the situation.

I hope that the above recap helps you remember the debates and Senator Kerry's actual position. It was really very cheeky of you to mistate Senator Kerry's position.

And how cheeky was Rice's answer to the effect the presidential briefing memo didn't tell them what to do. DUH!

Maybe she and Bush were waiting for the phone to ring..........."Hi George. Hi Condie. Osama calling".
