Hello everyone!

I went through my bookshelf (which was overflowing) and took off about 40 or so books that I need to get rid of. I would like to sell them if possible and put the money towards my next trip, I just don't know what would be the best way of doing that. I have about 6 Guinness Book of World Records books along with the four Twilight series books all in great condition along with some other assorted ones.

What does the Budget Board suggest?

Thanks! :thumbsup2

If you have a Half priced books nearby I would check there. They buy back books but not sure about how much they pay or anything like that.

Honestly you won't likely get much but you can sell on Amazon.com or half.com or in lots on eBay.

If you use Facebook there might be a local page where people sell their used books. We have a couple of different ones that sell household goods but there's one specifically for books and textbooks. It's fairly active and the prices people seem to ask for are more in the dollars range, rather than the under a $1/book you'd see at a yard sale.

I had some success selling books on ebay but if you don't let me suggest PaperBackSwap.com
Someone here on the DIS referred me to them and I've traded so many books. It's called paperbackswap but you can post hard cover and audio books too. While you don't make money up front you do save on buying new ones by using your trade credits (book for book).

Thanks to the ease of buying and selling online, used book prices have drastically fallen. Old world record books are practically worthless, as they are outdated as soon as the new edition is printed. The Twilight books were printed in the millions; also worth very little. Might not be worth the effort to try and sell these.

Paperback books are worth next to nothing unless you sell them in a lot on eBay, and even then what you get might not cover shipping and fees, depending on how you set up the auction. At amazon the flat fee is higher than what you can usually get for a paperback. From the books you are describing, it may be better for you to donate to goodwill and get the tax deduction.

I have to agree with this. Local libraries also take donations of books. They will either circulate them, or the Friends of [your library here] will put them in their sale.

You may get some money selling the set of Twilight for dirt cheap, as in, the whole set of hardbacks is averaging $20 on half.com, but that may be more of a hassle than donating them.

Not always the case. It's worth checking them individually on Amazon's trade-in service. I recently sold them a box of paperbacks and made $104 total. They paid the highest price for this book at $23. I have no idea why as they didn't even want the rest of the books in the series.

I did sell them 34 items in total, so the other books were not worth much. However, even a couple of dollars for each adds up quickly. They also pay for shipping so it's 100% profit.

i just sold some books at a bookoff location. i got 5.80 for 8 books in excellent condition and 3.70 for i think 6 books in good condition. they won't take anything ending in a 9000. they told me its self published which at first made sense since they are all college books but going through my boxes i found about 20 more with that code including books by dead authors so i think its an educational code. i had tried amazon but was getting frustrated as i entered multiple books and they wanted none, but might try the last 20 or so.

i cant even donate them to the local library, i checked and they won't take anything older than a year. :confused3

Even local elementary schools would love donations. At my daughter's school they are always looking for the Guiness books.
