Just got back from the local music store. I've put my saxophone, a professional Yamaha soprano, on consignment. I don't need the cash so much, but it's been sitting for 9-10 years now as I simply don't have the time to play now that I'm married with kids. Nevermind that I'm a complete no-talent as well. :D

Got me thinking on my drive back home. Whether it be a yard sale to purge your old junk or selling a loved (but never used) treasure, what have you either sold or done without to enjoy another Disney cruise?

As for me, I planned to buy a new Nikon D100 SLR last year with my bonus money from work but spent it on a 4 day cruise instead.

Don't get me wrong, I love my cruises... but I can't see selling my treasures just to go on a vacation! I would regret selling it too much, even if I don't use it often, i'm sure I'd want to START using it the second I got back from a cruise.

As far as selling junk, check out the budget boards. There always seems to be a thread about selling old stuff on ebay to pay for trips (or at least spending money). I should get rid of some old stuff that I don't want!

I sold my Precious Moments figurine collection to help pay for the fare of the neighbor kid so we could take him along with us. It was the best vacation we ever took. We saw everything, the first time, through his eyes. He'd never been on a cruise, never saw a musical production, never been out of the country, never swam with dolhins,... . I don't regret getting rid of my figurine collection to help make that possible. I really wanted him to come along and his parents were in no position to help us, so it was up to me and hubby. So, it was MY Christmas, anniversary, birthday gifts from hubby and whatever I raised by selling my precious moments collection that I gave up to help buy his ticket.

What an awesome story! That's very selfless of you, Tina.

And to think I've been debating whether to take my own kids or leave them at their grandmother's next time I go cruising.

(Tag Fairy, you getting this?)

We are sailing 12/20/03 - so, this is not only everyone in our immediate family's Christmas present, but the rest of my Christmas budget (excluding gifts for other family members and friends). That means no Radko, no Dept 56 pieces, no candles, no more lights, no adding to the Christmas display outside, no Christmas candy, no stocking stuffers (might have to fudge that one), no new music, no new Christmas clothes, ...... WE CAN'T WAIT!!!!

We think the memories that are made for DD-17 and DD-13 will far outweigh anything they would be getting for gifts. That is more than enough for me!

As I enthusiastic owner of a Nikon D100 and as an enthusiastic DCL cruiser, I would ask, "What can you do (legally, of course) so you could have both?" LOL

My D100 is wonderful! I don't regret my purchase. I took my D100 along on the 10/9 Wonder cruise and got some great shots!

May your future be blessed with both!

I think it will be. I'll just have to be patient, save my pennies, and use film 'til then.

From my March '03 4 day cruise and my trusty, old Nikon 8008.

Almost forgot... got a link where we can see those online?

Thanks,
Sam

Haven't posted them yet. I'm planning on doing so this coming week. I'm still working on my trip report. I'll let you when they're posted.
