Selling one resort contract to buy another?

We have 250 points at BWV and 100 Saratoga points. I believe I made a huge mistake buying 100 points at Saratoga when I really want to stay at BWV. Has anyone ever sold one resort back to Disney and purchased another. If so how do I do this?

I became a member by buying a small resale contract in February for VWL with the plan of adding on at BLT.

When I added on last month, I realized I really just wanted BLT so I asked my guide if Disney ever made 'swaps" so that I could sell them back VWL and rebuy at BLT. They said that does not happen.

I ended up putting it for sale myself through a broker and we are in ROFR now. It would certainly be ironic if Disney exercised that and ended up with it anyway!

Good luck

IF you did it, it would go something like this. List your SSR points and sell for around $6500. Pay $650 in commission. Then buy BWV 100 points for say $7500 and pay $450 in closing. So for roughly $2000 you traded SSR points for BWV points. The other main variable is points availability within both the contract you sold and the one you bought. Plus those BWV points expire in 2042 vs 2054.

IMO, it's not worth it. I believe the only time the dollars make sense is going the other way (high cost to lower cost resort) and if downsizing. While it doesn't work from a $$$ standpoint, it may also be the best for one who really needs a given resort. Given your mix of 250/100; no way does it make sense. Options would include using the BWV points for BWV stays and the SSR points for non BWV stays. You could also book both for a given trip and then try to change over to BWV at 7 months out and wait list if needed. There are some fancy ways to improve your chances of success in this area by freeing up one day at a time at the front of your reservation then using the freed up BWV points on the back end just before the 7 month window opens. Or you book weekdays with BWV points and leave weekends for later to use SSR points. With a little planning and effort you'd likely never have to stay at SSR if you didn't want to. Even standard view and BW view would be possible in many situations.

You can always get 500 BWV points by banking one year into the next. So if you want the GV or BW view, you should have plenty of points to get that. Then use the SSR points every other year (bank to get 200) at seven months.

Dean - you are probably correct that it doesn't make sense to do this. I do like your "fancy" ways idea to work my points to my advantage. I may try this and hope for the best.
