selling disney giftcards on ebay?

anybody have any experience selling disney gift cards (or probably any gift cards) on ebay?

I feel like it might be easy for somebody to buy them, use them, then claim they had no value on them? I've read too many horror stories about paypal/ebay siding with buyers on everything.

We have $400 worth of gift cards that we will not be using anytime soon that I would like to sell. Plastic Jungle will take $80 off the top of that though and I don't know how else to turn them into cash, so if anybody has any ideas that would be great!

I have never sold or purchased them, but I am sure there is a way to track when purchases were made. If you have proof that you shipped them priority mail on such date, you can match that up with when the purchases were actually made. I would keep a copy of the numbers for my own records as well, so they can't switch the cards after they receive them.

eBay is about the only place where one can recoup 100% of the card's value, but you have to be strategic about it. eBay and PayPal take around 10% to 10.6% of the final value in fees, so that has to taken into consideration. Also, eBay's policy on gift card sales is that you can only list one gift card at a time regardless of how many selling accounts you have, the max value of the card is $500, and they have to be 'physical' cards - no selling of online codes, etc.

The gift cards I sell are for a store that charges a membership fee, but no membership is required to use the gift card - so the buyer gets to shop at this particular establishment without having to pay the membership fee, which is substantially higher than the fees I charge. Win-win for all.

I wasn't expecting to sell a lot of these, but I was surprised - right now I'm averaging about $1500 in sales per week, which gives me 6000 frequent flyer miles per month.

The fees for Ebay/PayPal can be even higher than that, so do your research before listing. And if you haven't sold on Ebay before, your low feedback scores will make you a scam magnet. Not sure I would recommend selling a high value item like $400 in gift cards to a new seller.

Obviously it will depend on the value of the card - the lower the value, the higher the fees will be as a percentage. For a card with a value of $500 (the maximum allowable value that can be sold on eBay), eBay + PayPal fees come out to 9.56%.

If they don't have expiration dates on them, why not hold onto them? Nowadays, selling on ebay just isn't worth the time for me. The fees are killer. I'd just use the gift cards myself or give them as gifts to others before selling them on ebay or any other site.
