Or should I just add on 50 pts at a time?

We currently have xxxx (direct add-on to a BWV resale) but of course we want more XXX.

I've been trying to monitor resale prices and determine if it might not be better to sell XXX buy one larger rather than adding 50 at a time.

Are there things I am not taking into consideration?
Like, how much do we really walk away with if we could get XXXXX?

And how much would we really owe if we could snag a 150-160 at $85/pt?
Would fees and commissions just eat up any savings?

Not to mention the time and aggression.

i would just add-on the 50-100 pts. gives you more options down the road if you wanted to visit wdw less often - you could sell some of your pts without selling all of them.

but yes, the 10-12% commission to sell your current contract plus the closing costs for the new one would make it tough to come out ahead...

I agree with Charles, just add on incrementally. Be open to contracts in the 50-120 pt range in your UY. The closing costs to buy & commission to sell make the per point cost difference negligible.

Assuming you can pay cash with any options mentioned, I'd look for both. You may have issues finding the smaller contract that matches and looking for whatever comes along broadens the pool of resales for you to chose from. Then once you are closed, you will know how to proceed based on your personal situation and how many points you end up with. It's likely a wash dollar wise and you might decide to keep both even if you ended up with more than 150 BLT total.

I have been monitoring BLT for a while and a small contract will probably go for $105 or higher, not sure what sellers are accepting, only see what they are offering, but small contracts as usually snatched up within hours. Sign up with Disney DVC Resale Listings (hope I can say this??) and they will send you an email shortly after new contracts are posted on the four big resalers so you can see what is available as soon as it they are posted, this will help in determining what you can sell your small contract for and what you may be able to purchase a larger contract for. After months of looking and a lot of offers Fidelity did find me a fully loaded BLT contract (2012 points forward) for $90 a point (210 pts). Hope that helps.

When you sell, you will pay a 10% commission and about $70 in fees, providing the buyer pays the closing costs.

When you buy, you would typically pay the closing costs and possible reimburse for MF's on the new contract.

I sold a small contract at one resort to buy more at a different resort but only because I needed to offset the cost and we didn't think we needed that many points.

So, it can work out, but I was buying at BWV at $55 and selling BLT for $104.

If you are looking at buying the same resort, chances are, what you might save would probably be minimal. The benefit, of course, is that it might be easier to have one larger contract and finding it would be easier. It was one of the reasons we did what we did. It was easier to find 150 points vs. 100.

Good luck!

PS I removed specifics from your original post in terms of number of points and resort.

The Math

Scenario 1
Sell: 50 pts @ $105 = $5250
commission $ 525
fees $ 70
-------------
$4655

Buy: 150 pts @ 89 = $13350
closing $ 500
-----------
$13850
=======
Total: $9195

Scenario 2
Buy: 50 pts @ $95 = $4750
closing $ 400
---------
$5150
x 2
======
$10300

Saving $1105

So basically, IF I can find the right contracts (no MFs, UY etc) AND negotiate the right prices, then I will keep apprx +$1000 in my pocket.
But if I buy one 100 pts instead of two 50pts I would pay less closing cost overall thus reducing the "savings' even more.
Also I have to weight the ease of making reservations w/ one contract, verses the flexibility of 3 small.

Thanks for all the input.

If you want 150, you're best bet is to buy 100 (or around that) and pay one closing. In your situation I'd likely open myself up to anywhere from 50-150 points right UY and situation.
