We have an extra late model high-end sedan that we want to sell. I'm looking for advice on the best way to sell. I took it to carmax and they offered less than HALF of blue book :scared1: and the only thing they found wrong with it was a dent in the rear fender. :confused3 So, while they may be a great way to unload a clunker, they obviously are not the way to go with a 15K vehicle!

Any advice is appreciated!

Do you have a local Car Trader Magazine? It is normally inexpensive to advertise on it.

Otherwise, I would put a advertisement in the window with telephone details to call and take it to various local shopping malls. You will get results.

No doubt other posters will have good advice for you.

I think a lot of it depends on the vehicle. I traded off my Explorer because being a gas guzzling dinosaur looking SUV, I probably would have had trouble GIVING that thing away. That and he fact we pay tax difference not the sale price of the other car...a good bit we would have made extra on selling would have been eaten up by sales tax, factor in less hassle, made it easier to trade. On the other hand, my DH sold an old Firebird within a matter of HOURS on craigsist.

An expensive used car is probably a lot harder to move than something cheap. Not saying it cannot be sold, but something expensive is going to be tough. At least advertising in craigslist is FREE, so it doesn't hurt to try that.

Also... you might consider eBay Classifieds. You can list autos for free on that and pay no commission on the sale. You get like X amount free per year. It is not an auction, so if somebody doesn't offer what you want, you don't have to take it.

I guess I'll try Craigslist. It's a 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid with Nav and leather and in great shape. Hopefully with gas prices on the rise, it'll sell soon.:goodvibes

I second Craigslist. Lots of exposure and no selling fees. Give it a real detailed clean, inside out, take lots of great pics, and give a detailed description. In my experience, pictures go a really long way, especially since other sellers don't often put in very much effort. There is high-demand right now for used cars and yours is a Hybrid to boot. I don't think you'll have any problems. :thumbsup2

craigslist. I sold a car on there 2 years ago. Make sure you stipulate cash only, and dont go alone when someone wants to see the car. show them in a public place like a walmart parking lot. Print out a bill of sale to take with you and make sure that you sign over the title there, and keep a copy of the bill of sale for both you and the new owner.

The person who bought my old car did not immediately get the title registered, but i had the bill of sale, and when I started getting toll bills and a red light camera ticket, I was able to get them dismissed because I could prove we had sold the car.

I found the bill of sale paperwork free online but I can't remember where.

Unless it's extremely low mileage, I think you may have trouble getting $15,000 although you should be able to get a good bit more than half that.

We recently bought a 2005 Toyota Camry on Craig's List. In an odd coincidence, we found two 2005 Camrys, same color. Car #1 had fewer miles, was a higher trim model and was priced less. The seller, however, was not flexible about our taking it to our mechanic. Car #2's seller was very flexible, and let us test drive it without him in the car and take it to our mechanic (who said it checked out like a new car). We used the price of car #1 to negotiate the price of car #2 and bought it. We paid a couple thousand less than blue book.

We did the title transfer at the bank. I would only do it there or the DMV.
