Sell me on the Contemporary

We always wanted to stay at poly, but when we visited we quickly found out our DS was allergic to the pumped in smell. We can not even eat at Ohana. So we stay at Contemporary and found that we love it, will be there in a few weeks.

I don't want to sound like an idiot, but what pumped in smell?? Disney pumps in a smell to resorts???

I would choose CR over Poly because it holds wonderful memories for my family.I know a lot of people say they don' t like the theme of the CR, but because it was the first hotel we ever stayed at in WDW it will always be "Disney" to us! Whatever you choose enjoy!

Yes. They use a scent machine for the different smells. You can definitely notice the scent in the lobbies.

We would choose CR also. But we really don't particularly care for the vibe of the Poly, so it's not much of a decision for us. :)

There's a reason the resorts are different.

We're currently booked at the Poly for the beginning of Aug. I got a Pin code in the mail that makes upgrading to the Contemporary VERY attractive. However, the CR has never held any appeal for us. The theming just isn't there. The ONLY attraction for us is the walkability to MK - and that's definitely an awesome advantage, especially after Wishes. So, please try to convince me why would like CR over Poly!

we've stayed at the CR seven different times and August will be our third trip there in a row...i've tried to go to other monorail resorts but the wife and daughter say "no"...

in a word- convenience...you cannot beat a ten minute walk to the Magic Kingdom....even better is walking back on EMH nights rather than waiting for buses or monorails..

there are a lot of other things; the main concourse is actually nice, the shops are terrific, the MK tower room views, etc...but the convenience can't be beat...

Since you've stayed at the Poly, I'd pick CR just to try something new. We'll be there in August; the walk to and from the MK is what sealed the deal for us (also a good Aug discount).

Is it a surprise for your kids? If it isn't, I'd discuss with them. My DD8 helped pick the CR (surprisingly).

Good luck deciding!

Our kids (ds12 and dd almost 8) love Poly, but they also have "loved" every resort we've stayed at! They both said they'd prefer Poly because the pool doesn't look as fun at CR. Decisions, decisions! Btw, Wisconsin Dad, we're from WI too!

Yeah; I see you are from Green Bay. I'm on the other side of the state in the La Crosse area. Good luck with your decision!

The pool at the Contemporary is pretty cool because of the fountains in the middle. I sat in the hot tub in the center while my little one swam through the fountains. And TONS more chairs than at the Poly. The pool is just bigger, too. The CR also has a water splash area, like spitting fountains, near the pool that kids can run through.

It's very cool to watch the fireworks each night, either from your room, from the walkway to Bay Lake Towers, or the lounges.

For bad or extreme weather, the Contemporary is self-contained. At the Poly, you have to walk outside to get anywhere.

don't know what its like at the Poly but at Contemporary they have CM's by the pool, organizing games and getting the kids involved...

I'm biased since I'm not fond of the Poly, but I would choose the Contemporary, especially a tower room. As many others have said, you just can't beat the easy walk to the MK. And I really like that in the Tower, access to food, shopping, transportation, etc. is so close. It's just a really convenient place to be. And while I'll grant that the pool at the Poly looks serene and gorgeous, my kids had a great time at the Contemporary pool. They love the splash pad, and I love the multiple hot tubs.

I'm biased because we love the Contemporary....that said i've been trying to get my wife and daughter to at least try the Poly...why are you not fond of it??

I keep coming back to that walk to MK! That's still really the only stand-out to me. Like I said earlier, we have our own outdoor hot tub, so Poly's lack of one isn't a factor for us. Our kids are 12 and almost 8, so the Poly pool is their fave - although they're always up for trying something new. I don't recall, does CR have a slide?

Yes, CR has a slide.

To the PP who asked, I don't like that at the Poly all of the rooms are in separate buildings from the main resort amenities. It makes getting food and/or shopping into a "thing," whereas at the CR tower you can just hop on the elevator and get what you need. Also, the hallways felt dark and gloomy and more motel-ish than a deluxe should feel. The rooms were fine, I just didn't like the feel.

I will admit that the grounds are lovely and the pool looks great.

I agree. The Poly just seems very outdated and worn to me. I know they just finished a refurb on some of the rooms but I think the lobby needs a little updating as well. I think the grounds are beautiful, it's just not my taste. That's what makes Disney so great, there's a resort for everyone's taste! No matter what you like or where you stay you always have a great time.

This is why the CR appeals to me more than the Poly
