Sell me on the Contemporary

We're currently booked at the Poly for the beginning of Aug. I got a Pin code in the mail that makes upgrading to the Contemporary VERY attractive. However, the CR has never held any appeal for us. The theming just isn't there. The ONLY attraction for us is the walkability to MK - and that's definitely an awesome advantage, especially after Wishes. So, please try to convince me why would like CR over Poly!

Only stayed at each once. At first, I was not into the modern theme of the place but came around quickly. I really liked how clean and restful the contemporary was. We were in the garden wing and it was quiet and almost spa type feel the decor in the rooms. The staff there was top-notch and very helpful. I would definitely go there again!

We will be spending our 4th trip in a row at the Poly this Summer. As you can see we love it too! We have stayed at the CR one time. Location is great. I don't know what upgrade at the CR you are speaking of compared to the Poly room you have already booked. If you have a Standard Room at the Poly and can book a Theme Park View or Club Level at the CR for the same price or not much more, I would consider it. That would be an awesome deal. I would have trouble looking at the Poly from the CR for a whole week knowing what I was missing. You have to be the judge. Good luck with your decision!

I love the contemporary...I don't know it's because its so close to Magic Kingdom, the monorail going through it, the views, chef Mickey, or just great memories, but to me that is always my first choice. When I was younger they also had a great arcade...since then they moved it, but still looks decent. You can't go wrong with Poly either.

What are the details of the pin? Is it a theme park view room?

I am not much help..sorry. If I had the choice, I would choose the Poly. The rooms are the same size, so that isn't the issue. The only down side to the Poly is no hot tub and I love me some post park hot tub time!!

The pin is for a discounted room - no particular room type specified- which is even better than the summer promo deal we got booking at the Poly. We love the Poly, so we're hard-pressed to switch, but the deal IS tempting!

The hot tub is not an advantage for us because we have our own outside at home, so public hot tubs kind of gross me out now!

We've stayed at both - Poly many times since the 80's and CR once last year. Our CR stay was short, club level, part of a split stay with BC, and for the purpose of proximity to MK for MNSSHP. I loved the peaceful bay lake view from our room, the fun MK view from the club lounge, the incredible convenience of the lounge and the amazing CL CMs. While the pool at CR was not spectacular in terms of theme, it was wonderfully uncrowded and I could see our youngest from anywhere in the pool area.

If you really want to try CR (we did!) I'd suggest trying it as part of a split stay. We really enjoyed our time there, but a big part of our excitement was because we stayed CL and split the stay with BC.

More of CR is under one roof, so it is less spread out than the Poly. It also seems busier and more bustling, which could be a pro or a con. I'm not really sure either way would be an upgrade, just different flavors of Disney.

what about a split stay ending at the poly as you know you love it there??
the summer promo at the poly was only 20% off right so if price is better might be the time to check out cR

Would be a good idea, but we did a split stay once with POR/ WL and really didn't like switching resorts halfway thru. It IS an idea though- thank you! I think the summer promo was either 25 or 30% off. The pin is for 40%.

Would love to know what you decide as I am debating the same. I think it is hard to switch when you know how much you already love a certain resort.

We always wanted to stay at poly, but when we visited we quickly found out our DS was allergic to the pumped in smell. We can not even eat at Ohana. So we stay at Contemporary and found that we love it, will be there in a few weeks.

We have stayed at both, and really like both. I agree with pp that the feel of the two resorts are so different that they are hard to compare.
The CR does not have the heavily themed lush feeling the Poly has. The shopping and eating areas are busy and loud- I do not mean that in a bad way- it has a nice energy about it. We really liked our room. Very streamlined decor. Very soothing. To me it is just very "Disney".

Dd's 16th birthday is in Nov. and I am taking her to WDW to celebrate. I let her choose any resort and she chose CR.

OP, we'd take the Contemporary every time , clearly a subjective opinion on my part, based on staying at both. We love the views, another PP noted with pictures. But it's not my job to convince you, you need to make the decision your self. It sounded from your post that the Contemporary really didn't appeal to you. If you've never wanted to stay there before, I wouldn't do it just because I get a reduced rate. But that's my opinion.

OP here. Thanks for the opinions and info! Definitely some food for thought. Those pictures of the view from the CR are amazing! I do keep coming back to those views and the walking distance to MK. We've got a lot of thinking to do! And we're so grateful that we have the ability to decide between 2 fabulous resorts!

We love the Poly but if you have a 25% discount at the Poly, and a 40% discount at the Contemporary I would 100% side with staying at the Contemporary.
