Forgive me if I sound naive but I just don't understand. My parents have timeshares and I know that this is Disney's answer to that. But what really confuses me is the points. How many points for which resort? How much does each point cost? Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks!

At the top of the page are a couple of links to help you.

One is to the Timeshare Store website. This will give you a good indication of what the going rate is for each resort. Generally speaking, from most to least expesive is BCV, BWV, VWL, SSR, OKW, HH, VB. The 1st 3 are the smallest of the resorts, SSR is the newest and largest, OKW is the original and HH & VB are offsite. From 11-7 months out, you can only book at your home resort, but inside 7 months, you can book at any resort.

The other link is the DVC Points Charts for each resort. Three things determine the "points cost" for your vacation - Type of villa (studio, 1BR, 2BR or 3BR Grand Villa); Time of year (or "Season"); and Day of Week (Sun thru Thu nights are generally 1/2 the points than for Fri or Sat).

Hope this helps.

Read all the thumbtacked posts at the top of the page too. That way you will get an idea of what it is all about, and then you can come back here and ask us some specific questions.

There's lots of info on this subject in the stickys that the other folks mentioned. In a nutshell though, DVC is a point-based system that doesn't restrict you to travelling a certain week each year (and it doesn't force you to take one full week). You can use points to book 1 night at a time if you wish. Point rates for rooms range from around 8 points for a studio on up to the 80-90 point range for one night in a 3 bedroom grand villa. You buy the number of points you want (150 minimum to buy from DVC, but you can get contracts as low as 25 points on the resale market).

Pricewise, for direct purchases from DVC you'd be looking at just under $100 per point (minimum of 150 points for initial purchase) at SSR and $92 per point for others (if available). Resale prices vary, but you can get a good idea on those prices by visiting the Timeshare Store website and glancing at those contracts.

That might get ya started...

Let us know if you have specific ???'s...

You might also consider changing the title of your post (if possible) to include the word "Please".... ;)

Thank you all so much for all of the information. It still seems a little pricy for me but I am interested in the possibility of buying a resale at a later date.

Spicycat - We don't live that far from each other. I work in B'ham.

Thanks again!

If you are not used to staying in the deluxe on-site WDW resorts, it will seem pricey at first, but if you are used to staying deluxe everyother year or every year, you will see the value of it, and it will "pay for itself" over time. You have to look at it as a prepaid vacation accommodation at todays prices for the next 48 years.
