Selfish Stick used during ride on CA Screaming caused breakdown

My son got whacked in the face by a selfie stick on a roller coaster because some guy sitting in front of him couldn't hold on to the stick anymore. He almost lost an eye. So imagine my happiness when I saw how Disney was really enforcing their ban of selfie sticks on such rides. My only wish was they people who cause such shutdowns could be made liable for any damages to the rides. I imagine if the stick got caught in the machinery, it's gonna cost Disney quite a bit to have the ride inspected and fixed. I find it just fair that the person who caused the damage should pay for it.

Add to this the people who refuse to take off their hats when the recorded safety message and the CMs request it. Got a lovely shiner from the jerk in front of me on Screamin' when his baseball cap flew off and whacked me in the eye at 55 mph. When I returned his cap and pointed out the danger to others, he laughed at me (in front of his child) and ran off.

What?! Oh heck no... just reading this makes me hope he got all flat tires on his way home from DL in a no cell zone. I can't believe how inconsiderate and rude people are these days. Makes me sad.

Ouch! I think I would've tossed his hat off the ride, not returned it!!

Signs at SixFlags tell you that if you remove your camera from your pocket, on a ride, you will be ejected. I assume a camera on a selfish stick would qualify.

I know Disney is nicer but anyone that does this deserves to be ejected.

Yes Disney is nicer, but sometimes they're too nice. They fail to enforce their own rules, and imbeciles take advantage of that. I say throw the imbeciles out.

My gosh, what an absolute idiot. These selfie sticks are getting out of hand. People act like the sticks are literally glued to their hands, and they're always in the way of parades and shows. There is no reason to take that many pictures of yourself to warrant buying this thing. What a self-absorbed society we live in nowadys. I'm thankful everyone was unharmed, but that idiot should be banned from the property for good.

Totally agree! I don't get the whole selfie stick thing anyway. If people want everyone in the picture, there's always someone nearby willing to take your pic.

"Selfish stick" LOL.

At least the shoes mainly hurt the wearers of them.

Believe it or not, you can ask another guest to take a picture of you all. That way no one has to have that arm out, etc. It's an amazing thing, that other people exist in the world and many will be kind enough to take a few shots of you.

But only as long as none of you do that weird half-squat thing. Please, don't do that. (I've seen pictures of people doing it when there is absolutely no reason, no one is shorter than them behind them, and it just looks like a bunch of people trying not to pee)

I just got back form a cruise and we had multiple people asking if they could take a picture of the two of us in exchange for us doing the same. People are generally kind a helpful especially on vacation.

Using a selfie stick to take a stationary photo, fine
Using a selfie stick on a fast-paced ride or to block the views of people behind you for that "epic" shot, NO :faint:

>:( that really irritates me. I almost always wear a ball cap (w/ears:earboy2:) to the parks, but I also always follow the rules and place said hat and ears in the pouches provided to us.
That guy sounds like a real jerk, and look at how he is teaching his own children to act, disgraceful.

My favorite is when people record videos of rides they will NEVER watch. Plus, other people on Youtube have done it better.

Enjoy what is in front of you in the present.

Right.

NO ONE cares or wants to see your expression on a ride or can't watch the fireworks show on YouTube already...why record it for what reason? Just mind boggling.

I always endure I'm not blocking anyone's view I HATE watching shows through your camera again theirs HD videos of the shows online, no one wants to watch yours.

Forget being kicked out, I hope he was arrested for intentionally putting others in harm's way! Do people think those rules don't exist for any reason? Safety first, always! So crazy.

I completely agree!

Hopefully the police were called!
