Was just reading that selfie sticks are banned in the park? What about tripods?

Even though I don't use them, I must clarify.

If you have a stick that does NOT extend, that is perfectly fine. That's why the rules describe it as an "extension pole".

I know at least one DIS member (mvf-m11c) did have trouble bringing a tripod into Disneyland earlier this year. Based on the current rule, he should not have had trouble bringing it in, but sometimes CMs aren't entirely up to date or have their wires crossed. So just know that it will probably be let in, but sometimes they make mistakes.

I'm bringing mine in 2 weeks. Honestly, if they turn me away, I would probably just try a different line with a different guard. Mine definitely folds down small enough to fit in a backpack. But I'm quite sure the one mvf-m11c had was small enough as well and it should not have been a problem.

I'm curious now to know if @mvf-m11c has been back to the parks and tried to bring a tripod since that one incident.

I have been going to DLR a lot this year. Just as @mom2rtk said that I had no problem bringing in my tripod in the parks. But in June during the summertime, I was stopped by a CM at the security check point and was told that I couldn't bring it in. I think that DLR didn't let people use tripods during that time was the summer crowds where it can be busy. I was told that day by the CM's that the DLR website would say that tripods are not allowed in the park says it on the website. It has been almost 5 months and it still says the same thing where you can bring a tripod in as long as it fits inside a standard backpack. The CM's have at times different opinions on how to deal with tripods at the DLR from what I heard and read. I use a MeFoto Roadtrip tripod and I never had a problem with it until this past summertime.

I was at WDW earlier in October and I had no problem bringing my tripod in the parks.

I was at the parks a few weeks ago and I didn't bring my tripod to the park since I don't want to bring it back to my car/hotel. From my walking around during those times, I barely didn't see guests with a tripod with them or using it. Another good option I use instead a tripod is a gorilla pod which has the bendable legs which can be versatile.

If you do plan on bringing a standard tripod to the parks and when you get to the security check point, you might be ask to take it back to your car/hotel. I'm hoping that Disney would explain it better on the website about tripods if we can bring a standard one in the park. But lately, the parks have been busy and this might be one reason why the DLR is not letting tripods in the park because of the heavy crowds. This is my opinion and observation of being at the parks.

Thanks for the update Bret! I'm bringing mine in a couple weeks, so I'll update a couple of these threads when I get back.

Hope you are able to bring your tripod in the park when you go. I have a hunch that I might not be able to bring in mine next weekend since it is during the Avenger's Marathon and the first weekend of the holiday season. It will be nice to use my tripod again but I do have other ways to get those long exposure shots.

I was there about 2 weeks ago. I had an issue one time where they said they had to take it out to make sure it's an "approved" style. I have a gorilla-pod type tripod. However, one time out of the probably 12 times that I went through is pretty good odds. When they questioned the gorilla-pod, I just pointed out it doesn't extend, the legs just bend, and they seemed fine with it then.

Just wanted to reiterate the no selfie stick; saw a CM nicely tell a family that had one out that it couldn't be used. It was at the rope, and he went into the crowd to talk to them quietly about it, which was very nice. I honestly couldn't tell if he took it or not, but I thought he handled it well.
